why is everyone convinced his immune system is compromised... that wreck was 3 years ago and what is a few more months of, giant air quotes...rest, going to gain him? I had a similar left elbow and arm injury with multiple surgeries in 1996 and none of my doctors ever mentioned anything about immediate or long term immune system compromise, compartment syndrome and potential amputation yes, immune compromise no.

I wish him well and hope he heals from whatever is ailing him... whatever it may be.

its definitly hard to step away for any amount of time in this sport but im always happy to see a rider take time off to heal.

it would be nice to see the industry shift to allow a bit more time in between series and time training. any other sport trains for a few months, jumps into season for a few months then relatively has the rest of the year off

Always an interesting question...

Does iron sharpen iron?

Do you get stronger racing outdoors and does the intensity benefit you when it comes back around indoors? I think it might...

But does grinding yourself to dust make it worse if you're dealing with chronic issues... Better come out firing in SX!

No, but he didn’t win that title, either. With the kind of money Kenny has been pulling down since 2017, why risk injury unless you think...

Because he's paid to advertise his sponsors. The kind of money he's making is a lot. My opinion may be in the minority but I feel like if hes being paid tons of money to race then that's what he should be doing if he's not injured. If you're contracted to race and you just decide not to then you shouldn't be getting paid. I wonder how HRC will feel when he's out surfing, golfing, fishing, shopping, etc rather than racing?

I see people always talk about his immune system being messed up. Is that really true or is that something someone once mentioned on vital and everyone ran with it? Has there been actual information released from Ken or the team? I like Ken a lot and I've always rooted for him but damn... its always something with him with no real information ever released to substantiate his "issues."

I was going to criticize all the couch experts criticizing Roczen but then I realized it's a lost cause.

Completely agree.

Big KR fan here. I know the times are different now. But what is the success rate of riders that have taken the summer off to get “better prepared” health wise and it not work out. Afraid if it’s the same Kenny that we have seen in Salt Lake, might be hearing different kind of chatter.

Hope the time off does not only himself but future family well!

..... and you pushed your body to the physical extreme every day training as hard as Kroc did following your injury, to get back to one of the best in the world right? And then you stuck your other arm inside the spinning wheel of a 450 in a supercross race right ? And then you faught and pushed your body to the physical extreme again day after day fighting for a championship right ?
I can see the similarities.

Without knowing exactly what he is dealing with, I sure as hell cant comment on what he should/shouldnt do.
obviously only Kenny, and Honda can deal with that.

I know this isn't the Vital thing to do, but all i can say is I hope he enjoys the break and comes back 100% fit in 21.
SX and MX is better with a healthy Kenny involved
Apologies for not calling anyone an idiot or a pussy as per vital etiquette.

That's what I was wondering too.
Honda took a huge gamble in signing him for the real big bucks and extra year.
Knowing he had serious prior injuries I thought it was kinda crazy.

So is it different with these guys when they decide not to race, is he still raking in the big money?

And yes I like K-Roc and have huge respect for what he has gone through even though Webb is still my boy. 😁

How many surgeries? He had fucking 11 on one arm in the matter of a couple months. Not to mention the other arm. Everyone's body is different. Maybe his immune system issues are a deeper seeded problem and you'd all feel like dick bags for hating on this dude if that turned out to be the case. Stop comparing yourself with him and have a little empathy.

If this prolongs his career (which it likely will) then as fans we all benefit from this decision..

This is really sad news. Always tough to lose out on watching a top rider like KR on the National tracks but he knows what is best for his mind/body. I hope the time off helps him and he comes back strong as strong as ever.

Even with him in rough shape he is the only challenger to Tomac. Can not blame the guy one bit though, he’s dealt with a lot, and we are lucky to see him back winning races. But, However many wins you thought Tomac was gonna have, just add more. Webb and Osborne are not on there level.
You sure about that? I know Tomac is the favorite for the title but I’m expecting Webb to push him and pull off a win or two

He has a guaranteed contract far as I know so it's kind of irrelevant wether he races or not....maybe they (honda) negotiated a pay cut for him sitting out but I do know he has a guaranteed pay contract through his agent on the pulp show.

Lad couldn’t even ride for 10 minutes at SLC. Sounds like a good idea to sit out.

Get well KR, who knows, he may never come back Unsure

He wasn't gonna be a threat outdoors anyway. Better to sit out and pretend he could have won it...than to ride around in 6th and make ridiculous excuses each week to save his ego.

I expected this response.
the answer to this is yes, my chosen career over the past nearly thirty years required me to be ready as quickly as possible to insert myself into extreme areas of the globe, surviving under sustained direct fire, long foot movements to contact with the addition of extreme lack of sleep and proper nutrition under austere conditions in all environments. In addition I have been a competitive athlete most of my life and have had the opportunity to train with some of the best olympic level trainers and nutritional scientist to assist in preparation for our missions. just because I don’t get paid to ride a dirt bike doesn’t mean I or anyone else on here hasnt had similar life experiences or pushed our body to extremes like Kenny has.
