Reed switch to KTM

5/5/2020 12:28pm
In speaking to the boys at Pro Circuit last Saturday, Reed sold his honda's thinking the season was done then decided to jump on KTM's based on parts availability and yes it is a brand he has yet to compete on.

he was interested in KTM before the season, but then the chance to test with Factory KTM happened. He didn't get MM25's bike for SX. I would say he probably thought it was a better bike, but wasn't about to show up on a KTM after they shorted him (in his mind) by not signing him for the final season. Or they couldn't work out whatever deal he wanted. That emotion has worn off, Honda's made sense to sell and the KTM is probably easier to get parts for. Car racing was going to come back, but who knows now this year.

And maybe he actually likes it better?

Just a few thoughts

The only sticking point for the Red Bull KTM ride was Reedy wanted to use his own suspension and KTM couldn't allow it from a contractual standpoint. It was all but a done deal until the subject of suspension came up...

Honda was never paying him. Hence the color of the bike. So, why not advertise that Mountain Motorsports has KTM as well, plus now he will have (hopefully) raced every top level bike.

The story I read, don't recall where, was he had wanted to ride for Roger before but KTM only runs WP and he is/was sponsored by KYB or Showa I don't recall.

I honestly am not a big fan of reed as far as personality, but dude, how can you hate on what he is doing! Absolutely nuts how he’s still out there making mains, and even putting up solid results!

It’s weird the guys hating would shit their pants if js7 or RV came back for a few races, yet reeds out here still killing it like an F’n G

100% accurate.
Did something change between then and now because his KTM has a Trax shock and looks like Cone Valves on it?

I think I heard him say somewhere he had always planned on buying a KTM 2 stroke once the season was over. Was just going to be riding for fun and wanted a two stroke but a modern chassis so it was going to be KTM/Husky. I imagine it wouldn’t make much sense to switch back to a Honda after riding the KTM 2 stroke for a few weeks during the down time, just bust out a new KTM 450? That’s my guess anyways.

But hey, it's his money and his time so he can do what the hell he wants Cool

Ah cool I'd only seen the pictures on his IG where it was blacked out. Looks much better there now, I still miss his TwoTwo Honda days, dont think anyone has ever had a better looking bike/team/gear setup before or after that, plus he was a bad dude on those 11 and 12 Hondas

I thought the reason was he wanted to ride on Showa suspension and KTM wanted him to ride on WP.

Hope they keep it like that rather than the blue. Crikey wasn't feeling that. This looks pretty good.

He’s so off the pace I don’t think it really matters. It will be interesting to see if his results improve.. I would love to see chad run up front more

So off the pace?

Last round at Daytona his qualifying time was only a few tenths of a second off Barcia, Plessinger, Hill, Friese and Brayton, who are all on factory bikes, while he's on a bike with a few bolt-ons.
It's fair to say he was way off the pace earlier in the season, but broken ribs, no training or testing will do that.

I'd say the old dog still has a few tricks, however he's got nothing to prove with results, it's amazing he's still out there and doing it.

Uh, he’s WAY off the pace. What’s his best finish in a main? And how’s qualifying gone this season?
Roczen would podium on a stock 450.

I see you failed to mention his qualifying time to Tomac.

.... 3.42 seconds slower

I love when people post crap like this.

So far off the pace compared to what?

He has still been one of the fastest 22 Supercross racers in the World, in every event this year.
