2020 MXGP CALENDAR UPDATE – MXGP OF SPAIN AND MXGP OF PORTUGAL POSTPONED!
image

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 12 March 2020 – Infront Moto Racing regrets to inform about a further update on the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship calendar as the MXGP of Spain and the MXGP of Portugal have been postponed.

Originally scheduled on the 18th - 19th of April, the MXGP of Spain will now be postponed to the 10th – 11th of October, meanwhile the MXGP of Portugal foreseen on 25th – 26th of April will now be taking place on the 17th – 18th of October.

The decision to postpone both events to a later date in the year was made in agreement with the FIM, FIM Europe, the local authorities and both organizers, Last Lap as local organizer of the MXGP of Spain and Águeda Action Club – ACTIB as organizer of the MXGP of Portugal.

Due to the international situation because of the coronavirus outbreak, Infront Moto Racing would like to focus on the health of all the people involved and to keep the risk of impact low for the 2020 MXGP Calendar schedule.

We kindly ask you all for a great sense of responsibility and understanding during this difficult time, as we continue to monitor the situation and take each day step-by-step.

So no MXoN I’m guessing? Won’t have that in the middle of the GP schedule.

What?
They just postponed a fly away in Argentina with 10 days notice but we can’t give it a couple of weeks to see how this develops further? Maybe there’s no chance that these events can run. But does that decision need to be made 6 weeks in advance? Give yourself the best possible chance of running as many races as possible. Give it a chance, that’s all I’m saying

I hope this won't carry onto the AMA Nationals. I was going to buy my tickets for Washougal by the end of this week.

I'm sure they will refund you if they cancel the event. Cool

Well since it’s about 3 months since the outbrake in China and things have only now started to look better over there, and the rest of the world seems to follow the same timeline, I think it’s fair. Way bigger events planned for May are already being cancelled. This is bigger than just a couple of dirt bike races.

Don't count on it. First Eastern-Asia, then Europe. I bet the New World is next in line.

And who carries the financial losses if the decisions are made at the last minute?....

This is getting serious. A few days ago I would agree that postponing stuff is a bit early but the way this shit spreads right now I think its absolutely the right call.

Well what would you class as last minute though? Is 3-4 weeks beforehand last minute? I wouldn’t think so. I’m not suggesting that you cancel it the week before, even if you cancel it a month prior it still gives you another 2-3 weeks to assess the situation. The later you leave it the more information you have, the more informed your decision. Worst case scenario, things are the same or worse in 3 weeks and you make the decision to postpone. Best case scenario, things are getting better and you might not have to. At least you gave it a chance

I guess a trip to France for MXoN is probably not going to happen now... Bummed out for sure.

Seems like the whole remaining season starts again in sept

So if they start cancelling GP’s do we put an asterisk beside the eventual champion? Or is that only done in SX? Just want to make sure I have all the facts straight.

What do you think could happen in the next 2-3 weeks that would make any difference? The virus is spreading like wildfire, it ain't going away anytime soon.

At least Infront are rescheduling the races and not just cancelling them like some sports.

I would think 2020 is a wash out, unnecessary travel between counties with be restricted, and this will include the piss ant sport we all love called motocross.

Seems to me like they made a decision to postpone 1/4ish of the season and tack it on at the end. Explains why Argentina was rescheduled 8 weeks after the last race. Makes sense to me to plan it as a block rather than trying to figure it out one race at a time.

France also gets postponed out of precaution. Depending on the circumstances by the beginning of May, the authorities could cancel the event to two days before the actual weekend and the organisation doesn't want to risk that.

They're aiming for the end of June.

At first I just thought it was media hype, but with all this going on in countries all over the world it worries me a bit.

This is why you refrigerate your ‘exotic’ meats in the market place...and not have dodgy Harvard biological professors take underarms from Chinese labs!

Buy shares, wait 2 years, get rich. You’ll have forgotten about your flu-like symptoms by then.

Dude you're an idiot. This is a problem that completely transcends motocross racing at any level and all you think about is running races. Get a fucking grip

Just count on it that all races till Germany will be cancelled and probably even Germany. Till then Corona will be spreading and killing, that is what real scientists are telling.
