if you're going to moderate, just edit the post with the rule that was broken and move on. As it is, things just vanish and then you say something vague like "It was getting out of hand". I mean, c'mon. I've specifically called you out to identify what rules were broken with some posts (that clearly bothered you)...but you won't. Other than that, just wish you'd stop taking jabs at the users of the site.
The ones who seem to get most offended by moderation are also the ones who seem to try the hardest to push the limits.

Besides the moderation you might see, there's also the daily maintenance moderation. Has someone posted spam links to site that offers college paper writing? Timeshares in Viet Nam? Sex dolls for sale?

I figure most people who might get clipped probably know exactly which edge they were skirting, and likely don't need an email from me explaining that, "You broke rule number 24, paragraph 2; and your sentence is ___." The more time I spend doing stuff like that, the less that I'm spending on worthwhile content for the site. I'd rather do less of the former, and more of the latter.

I don't want to spend time separating people who want to have their own battles. But I also figure if people are going to stop in here, they also don't want to waste their valuable time on stuff like that. It's sort of like a bar cleaning up the empty bottles and plates of half-eaten chicken wings.

Not going to happen. I've learned my lesson and now fully realize that thou shalt not speak ill towards Chad Reed or his old lady. He's sacred and protected as are discussions about her tits that she feels a need to bring up in a MX forum. I'm not sure what pictures he/she has of Guy B but they must be significant for Guy to protect that POS at all costs no matter what he does or says. I know now better than to call him a whiny scum bag or her a .... Wait a minute, forget those thoughts/comments and/or where I was going with them as I know the consequences: BANNED!!!

I've often wondered if Chad gave Guy his old, retired knee braces to make it easier when Guy is on his knees in front of Chad servicing his "equipment". At least Chad's old lady gets some relief from being on her knees in front of the dick as Guy's already there...

Congratulations. You got in your one last dig.

I'll just leave this here so people know exactly why you got clipped.

I guess it really was personal with you and your opinion of Chad. (See my prior comment above.)
Steve......my $0.02. Do this......more often. I don't mean clipping dudes , but leave the comment in which that person got clipped. And yeah , I still don't agree with when you put me on my time out. On that specific thread , and that specific comment , you yourself were the only one that took offense. I said something in which every person that replied , agreed with it.

During the weekends , you are out on the dirt , getting pics , taking interviews and so forth......and I think you some times take things out of context , by rushing through a thread. You weren't on here during the busy time ( race weekends ) , and the vibe you got , isn't always what you think. The things you read , could have been carried over from a few different threads. The " trolls " around here , are easy to spot within the first 10 - 20 posts they make. Maybe give a little more power to someone like Mav , that see's that shit a mile away? That's all I gotta say.

no - you missed the whole point.

CONSISTENCY, of which there is very little here.

And your wisecrack about Paragraph 2, section 12...it would not be out of line for you to put "This post veered into politics" or "Personal attack" and clip as you must. Instead you just delete things as you see fit, and you've pissed off a LOT of folks with that tactic. Because no, oftentimes people have no idea why you've clipped something because 1. you dont' tell them and 2. it's for your own personal reasons.

The most egregious is how you make fun of your customers, but if you are ok doing that, then that's on you and no rationalizing with you is going to help.

thanks for the conversation.

Would it be worth having a mini parent section to maybe have a lower number of assholes posting asshole comments about it. A lot of times they are new members. I don't understand why noob bashing is tolerated so much since it probably chases traffic and money away from the site and it's paying advertisers.

Also I sure as hell don't want the job of a mod on any forum, but I'm glad some people do it.

I kind of shut down noob bashing. Some folks (coff, coff, Dave...) seemed to think it helped weed out some of the low-quality users. Personally, I know of quite a few valuable users who got a taste of that and decided the juice wasn't worth the squeeze of being harassed.

I'd say consistency is in the eye of the beholder. You have your opinion. I have mine.

But one of the two of us has been doing this for about 20 years. I think I've been reasonably consistent over that span of time. I've also learned a lot about human behavior.

Everything in moderation.

With that being said, wouldn’t it be easier to post a warning to the individual/s skirting the line? If they get clipped after the warning there’s no excuse for sniveling.

I really don't recall any threads or users getting clipped that weren't for pretty obvious reasons. I got a time out for contributing some ignorance in a thread that got stupid. Nowadays, if I see a thread has already got some smelly stuff in it...I just move along. I know fly paper when I see itWoohoo

Everything in moderation...including moderation.

I often do fire warning shots. But obviously I can't do that while I'm busy shooting a race. I actually avoid the forum a bit after a race, so I can continue working on that night's content, and I don't get sucked into cleaning up alcohol-fueled post-race comments.

At times I sense an attitude of indifference towards members..Even long standing members are clipped or put on time out with no care at all.. To me that is strange.

Yes, VitalMx is the number one MX site on the web (and I hope it stays that way), but all too often the mighty fall- and often due to an indifference toward their customers..my 2 cents..

Okay...so how do I handle this one? Delete it and add to someone's confirmation bias? Or leave it to try and prove that I have a sense of humor? Wink

But those who hammered through, many became decent (quality?) members.

It was a matter of keeping the kids in line...they learned the rules of the road, the players in the game and a little pespectednessness of the engreish languagessness

It was too high a barrier for some. The ones who make it over still have to stay. Smile

I've seen quite a few instances where longstanding members of the site act like they can do anything without repercussion.

Sometimes they've turned into professional line-steppers, and that gets tiresome. Trying to justify why someone who's been here a long time might appear to get treated differently than a first-day noob is a no-win situation for me. I might value them differently, but they pretty much need to be treated the same. Otherwise, I have to try to explain it, and that doesn't work well.

In a lot of cases, an email to me (mostly as a reminder) is the best way to get reinstated. Unless I happen to think the poster is full of it, and not worth saving.

This thread is not nearly as interesting as I thought it was going to be, Oh well.
Guy B and his band of moderators do a pretty good job overall. Moderating is a pretty thankless job.
