They have works trasmission with custom ratios.
Don’t forget that 13/50 is what the bike has been studied for, 14/53 would change the balance and how the bike works in ruts/choppy areas.

Yeah I get it. 14/51 puts the wheel where they like it as well.

Quick question on suspension for us larger blokes. Looking at a 2019 KX450 and been checking spring rates.
If I go to racetech calculator it suggests forks springs would be a 0.51 which seems pretty common on all the video reviews as a good option for slightly heavier riders, and very close to the stock 0.50 springs.

Rear spring suggestion is a 6.25 which is a good jump over stock, is the bike quite unbalanced front to rear from factory, and would that seem about right a a 6ft3 110kg rider?

My local RaceTech guy that's done a lot of development with the main headquarters just built mine with .52 fork and 6.0 spring. Keep in mind this is with their gold valves front and rear. I'm 6'3" 230# +30 B/C rider. Haven't even ridden it yet due to snow but that may give a bit of insight on a similar sized rider.

PC and FC both suggested 5.3/6.0 for me at 6'4" 220lbs. Been running it for while, and feels good to me. Lost some of the small comfort but I don't bottom the forks out every jump anymore which is nice.

That’s the exact same that racetech quotes for me, .51 in the front and 6.2 in the back so I ordered 6.3. Which was the same spring rates I had on my 09 kx450 and that bike handled great. I’ll be doing my suspension this weekend, hoping it works out the same for this bike.

Thanks for the responses, seems I am in the ballpark anyway. Might start with a 6 in the back and go from there, been 5 years since riding so I am probably going to be a bit slow and rusty for the first year.

Did I also see somewhere that the shock has a allen key adjuster on the shock collar instead of needing to sit there with a hammer and punch to adjust preload? If so that is a god send and saves needing to buy a xtrig.

it uses a plastic preload collar with an allen key that locks it down. You loosen the allen and then you can normally turn the spring which will turn the preload collar. Mark the collar with a silver sharpie so you know it’s moving.

A few more parts landed.
Ordered the Ride Engineering Caliper also. Had one on my 2016 and liked it.
New plastics with my backgrounds finished yesterday.
First gate drop in about a year Sunday

Hey All, just found this thread. I found a new leftover 2019 kx 450 at a dealer in my area for 6500.00. I was initially going to get a 2020. Is there that much of a change between the 19 and the 20 to justify spending the extra cash? Any major changes? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Mind me asking what dealer?

It was Mid Ohio Powersports in Mt. Vernon. I picked it up yesterday, it was 6999.00. They still have a 19 demo for 6499.00

Ended up going with the yosh full system base on some feedback and reviews I’ve read. Sounds pretty mean, but haven’t ridden it yet. Here’s some shots of the yosh as there doesn’t seem to be many out there Smile . Also threw in a shot of the stock system for comparison.

yosh is rubber mounted like they all should be. killer quality on the yosh as usual. i bought one when they first came out, but they sent me a slip on instead of the whole exhaust. i measured it against the stocker and it was so huge that i just sent everything back and got the fmf instead.... the yosh is definitely on a higher level (imo) .... but i can live with the fmf because of the size.... if you go back like 40 pages you can find how i rubber mounted my fmf... good luck Laughing this thread is brutal

Does anyone know if the cases have material thickness change?

The reason why i ask is in 2009-2011 the kx450F was the best bike on the market you could buy hands down, the wheel base was perfect, forks were as close to a kit fork as you could get, triple clamps had perfect rake, and the bike was a powerhouse, well that year bike came with cases you could rely on,

Fast forward to 2016 and the cases are thinner in material thickness and liteally cracked while i was pulling a crankshaft out, i mean the 16 model bike has been in my shop multiple times, ecu problems first, kick start area second, breather gear and right side case crack 3rd, rod snapping 4th occasion, and now cases break when removing crankshaft?

I mean i honestly dont trust a kawasaki any longer, and lets not forget the shitty chain slider, and guide that comes on the bike,

I rode the bike and it is/was so weak compared to yamaha, and even suzuki for that matter!

Oh well just thought id ask on the new bike, they look good, just posting a question!

Well I got a new upgrade for my bike pretty stoked! Thanks to Dan Colvin for the hookup. I feel a lot better using a nice wrench instead of harbour freight junk especially on engine stuff. I also got to ride with the Pro Circuit suspension for the first time and wow it's such a different bike now super happy with it.

Really got to put the stock valving to the test sunday. Ultimately found the fork setting to be to harsh during the last 30-45 minutes of the race, so I’m going to first try messing with the clickers and possible take 10ccs of fork oil out. But for a bone stock bike with only a softer rear shock spring, long there pull throttle cam, and one tooth up on the rear it has faired pretty good in the woods.

On a side note, has anyone had problems with their feet getting blown off the pegs in deep ruts and corners? the bike also does get sucked down really easily in the ruts. I am going to try some 16-18 mounts to see if it helps.

I have the older foot peg mounts since they're steel not aluminum but they are pretty much the same shape. That's not going to change your issue. It's hard to know what's going on exactly but if the ruts are deep and you're standing you have to be on your toes and point in or they will hit no matter what.

Since the pivots of my foot pegs often got filled with dirt and were stuck in the tucked up position often, and there are currently no aftermarket peg armors available for the 2019, i went ahead and made my own. Would definitely look better if they were welded with a proper TIG welder (i used MIG), but i think they should do the job.

Just a little update: put about 25 hours on them so far, they do their job very well. Pegs havent been stuck a single time.
I will have to redo the right side one, since i caught a big stone in a deep rut and it mangled the 0,8mm steel cover up pretty bad.
Thought i'd post the measurements, just in case anybody wants to fab their own (works for both sides, just bend in the opposite direction)
I'm no engineer but they do fit pretty neat Wink

Just trust us and get the 2019 if you can. i have the 2020 Yamaha and the 2019 Kawi and the kawi is a better race bike hands down. Very few mechanical issues but they do exist. Yamaha is bulletproof.

So....don't come rain on our parade unless you've ridden the 2019

Willy at Lightspeed Carbon was out of them when I called a few weeks back, so I found one through Partzilla. It showed up in a WPS box, so it would seem that Partzilla ordered it from WPS and dropped shipped it to me if had to guess? If you have a shop that can order from WPS, they can probably source one for you. If not, just know the Partzilla image is wrong, but the part number is correct: 334-00519

https://www.lightspeedcarbon.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=334%2D0…

https://www.partzilla.com/product/aftermarket/92HP-LIGHTSPEED-334-00519

You could also go with P3 Carbon, they even offer green carbon if that's your thing and their customer service is great by the way.

Good luck!
