Can anyone recommend a good heart rate monitor for training/racing that goes around the wrist

I have a Garmin Vivoactive 3 and I love it. They’re pricey, but I picked up an almost brand new one off Marketplace for $75.

Polar M430. Get a chest mounted heart rate monitor with it, though, tends to be a little more accurate.

I have the polar ignite and it's great! Then I added the chest strap as well.

I also have a vivoactive 3 and only take it off to charge it. The wrist HR monitor works well, but I added the chest strap for more intense workouts as well as my riding/racing. Overall it's great and I'd recommend it as a first smart watch setup!

You don't get a good reading with the wrist one when you're riding. I tried it with the Vivoactive HR and it would be way off since its using optics to "see" the blood moving and the watch just moves around on your arm to much to get a good reading. You need a chest strap to get solid numbers. I've been using a Garmin Fenix 3 with a chest strap for well over a year now with no problems. Get the Polar chest strap as it does bluetooth and ant+ and you can pair it to a lot more stuff like a LitPro, camera, gym equipment, ect.

Wrist will give you poor read outs but agree with above ! have a garmin vivoactiv. Put the watch on my handlebars. And wear a blue tooth monitor around my chest. Works great. Insane how the heart rate when racing is sustained 180+. But im just dieing at 140-150 running.

I use a Polar H10, chest strap, go ride practice sessions and down load when I get back to my vehicle. Haven't tried it yet mounted on my bar pad. So far.. super happy with how the device is working.

I use a Wahoo TickrFit for training on my road bike and I love it. I don't think it would work well for riding since it wraps around my forearm several inches down from my elbow. I would be concerned that it would cause arm pump issues while riding

I’ve been using a Garmin Vivoactive HR and in my opinion it works good for what I need. I have added a chest strap monitor that I am going to use this spring when I start riding again. Currently I am using it for cardio training over the winter. I also use an app called Motosport+ which gives you lap by lap times.

Polar H10 chest strap HR. The monitor will store your rides/workouts and then upload them to your phone, no need to take your expensive watch on the bike with you.

I use a Garmin Forerunner 245 for everything else.

I have a Garmin Vivoactive HR and have been happy with it, but don't have anything to compare the HR accuracy to. It includes GPS, so it's great for running and cycling without requiring a phone, but I've noticed that when cycling the HR varies between standing and sitting with the same amount of effort. At this point getting a chest strap is going to be more accurate. Garmin watches are awesome!

HR accuracy is off as is with most wrist based readings for MX.

Polar A300 with chest strap is spot on, Garmin Vivoactive with chest strap is spot on and it will give heart rate recovery after 2 two minutes of rest (don't end workout until recovery is given)

As stated above the Polar H10 chest strap is ideal if you don't like wearing a watch while riding.

I will try Apple watch again and see if it will connect to a chest strap, I have a polar and garmin strap and will update.

As many already mentioned, a chest mounted HRM is more accurate than one worn on the wrist.

You can't go wrong with the Garmin, Polar, or Wahoo. They're all pretty darn good.

It all depends on your end goal for the data and if you want to see real time info as you ride.

Unless you’re going to use a chest strap, don’t bother.
This, in my experience watches are inconsistent at higher hear rates and/or when you are covered in sweat

Are you just using the strap while riding and then upload data to your phone after the ride?

I use it too. Chest strap is a must.
