in 1969 I got a 1968 Hodaka Ace 90, I think my dad still complained about paying 100 bucks for it

was going to get a new XR 75, but got in trouble for ditching school and the idea was nixed by my parents....later, I ended up with a used '77 Yamaha YZ 125...with a gold DG head and some kind of gold anodized swngarm--TRICK! heehee

1972 Hodaka Ace 100B+ My parents paid $587.50 for it brand new. I flat worn that thing out, I rode it so much. Good memories.

1974 Honda MR 50. I still have my color matched helmet, first mx boots and my first jersey displayed very neatly in my garage. All that sits on a shelf next to my Evil Knievel lunchbox that I carried to school in "76. God bless my mom for saving those treasures.

yz 80 1974? TWIN shocks swapped alot ! I was about 14 years old. I rode it on a Track called AMELIA AIRHEART pro track rough as hell. That was my begining.

I remember that place!! A very good friend of mine(Austin Gallardy) went to a National there about 71 or 72. A lot of big names were there(Weinert, Karsmakker, ect). I rode there for the first time around 75 or 76.

I use to ride with Tony Gallardy. I have not seen them in years? He rode a CR250 and CR125.

I talk with Tony and Austin weekly, usually after a supercross or outdoor race and compare notes!! They both still ride/race. Austin in So. Fla. and Tony in the Orlando area.

1967 Hodaka Ace 90 it was the bike of choice in that year and started the boom in off road riding. I still rate it as the most ill handling bike I ever owned but it was reliable. My favorite bike for its time period was a 1969 Sachs 125 because nothing could stay with it on a rough downhill. Back when the 2 strokes were becoming King, now I would not be caught on anything but a thumper.

We were living in Oklahoma around 71-72, we went to a gas station to get a flat tire fixed on our mini bike. There was a brand spank'n new Hodaka Super Rat leaning against the back wall of the garage. I was slobbering all over it and the owner fired it up and went ripping through the gears in a nearby field. At the time I was 12 and I remember thinking there couldnt possibly be anything faster than that Super Rat on the planet.

Rupp scrambler, then a real bike 1974 YZ80A .it was pretty slow, and then i bought a 1976 RM80, so much faster.

The reason the '74 & '75 YZ 80's were so slow is that the motors were based on the GT80 platform (72cc). It was'nt until' 76 that they went to 79cc and new engine design that they really became good bikes.

a used '73 honda z50a with fold up bars.

moved up to my first new bike, '77 honda xr75, then first 2stroke, '79 yz80f.

from that point on, it was new yamahas every year until I went to big bikes mid '85 (my last yz was the year we got euro white/red) and started 125s on one of willies hand me down CRs. then it started with new hondas...

Sometimes I wish this site had a 'Save response' feature so that I wouldn't have to re-type things like this 3-4x a year.

Honda S65. Everyone else had Trail 70s.

Now, I have one of those Trail 70s. (1971 CT70H-K1)

Move from there to a Yamaha MX100, the a passle of Elsinores. And so on and so forth.

You know Whip, I think you're the only other guy I've known that had an S-65. Only made them for two years I think. Not bad little bikes really.

That's a cool bike, Tom. Back in '73, a friend of mine rode for Sunshine Cycle Suzuki on an XR75 that the shop had put a 100 Super Rat motor in. He won a lot of races on it here in FL. They called it the Hondaka.

I started on a 1974 Honda MR50 mini elsinore....that bike was everything to me. I put a million laps on that small track that my dad let me make in our 2 acre yard on that bike! Two years ago, I got an itch to find one of these and restore it. I found one close to home on ebay and spent many hours in the garage making it look like new. Here are pictures of my original back in 1974 and my current restored MR50. I think I will keep this one for ever!
