Rainbow fork coatings and other color coatings

I’m thinking about getting my suspension coated and thought I’d ask about what you guys have for coatings and how much you paid for it with which shop?

SGB quoted me $700 for pit bike forks. I think they wanted another $200 to remove and install the lugs.

I don’t think you do, because there’s no way I’d pay that much. I’d be shocked to find someone more expensive than SGB, yet everyone recommends them. Curious what you charge.

Just get an A-kit. If you find a kit at a fair price, it will always be worth that amount. If you pay to have your normal forks coated, that is a sunk cost that will never be recovered.

We offer three different colors of DLC now, regular black (top), ice blue (middle), and rainbow (bottom). You can get more vibrant colors and variations with TiN, but it won't perform nearly as well as DLC since the friction coefficient is a lot lower.

The rainbow has a lot of color variation near the ends, but that's all hidden internally unfortunately, so it's a bit less exciting when all assembled. There's no way to control it, really, it comes out how it comes out, but we think it still looks pretty awesome:

We charge $500/set of fork tubes, $200 for a shock shaft, or $630 for a set of tubes and a shaft.

It's how you look not how you go that's most important. Don't forget to get the softer anodized engine mounts and triple clamps.

Nice to know, thanks for sharing the option(s).
One thing I noticed is a company called SRS posts all the crazy colors. I may not pay attention but I recall it stated that it is DLC coatings and it’s even more crazy then most colors I’ve seen. Are there actual products that just cost the tubes but are for nothing other then looks?

Most of the really intense colors are done with TiN or some similar PVD variant and not DLC. TiN is a little better than stock hard chrome, but DLC is much better.

As somebody said, if you have a lot of money to spend on, i would get a B/A kit.
You will love it, you will enjoy even more your riding days and it’s cool af!

Got a DLC quote from my local shop before the Holidays: They were $450 for OG black and $550 colors on the forks, $125 and $175 for the shock shaft. Pricing included lug removal. As slipdog and Luxon highlighted, SGB pricing may be a tad steep...

I’d recommend only getting DLC (black coating). The ti nitride (colorful coatings) don’t offer the same level of performance.. Otherwise, you can expect the coating to start going to crap faster than you think. You should expect to pay about 700 for dlc and 400 for kashima if it is done right.
