I think there was a good chemistry, with Ralph being the voice of reason. This might be the best set up.. Your thoughts?

How on earth do basketball announcers make it so you don’t need to watch ? You can visualize where they are on the court.

Wish Ralph could paint a picture with his words. All he paints is hometown crowd this. Hometown crowd that. Riding the bike with more intensity. Blah blah. Could be better. Kevin Kelley, Wes kain and weege would anniliate that announcers booth.

The biggest issue I have is they don't call the race, most sports call it play by play. These guys just dribble useless facts and pit talk. Save that for when the racing is over. RC4 and CR22 do have amazing insight and stories to share though.

Just tell us what's happening, I don't think theyre even watching the screen, just reading notes.

Exactly, just call the race. In the 450 main you could see KR was staying close to ET. He was .8 down and they were showing a battle for 8th. Then you could hear the crowd screaming and Ralph or or RC was just reading their notes. It's amateur hour when it comes to SX broadcasting. I did enjoy RC and CR in the booth together though. I love seeing guys that gave it everything they had to beat the other guy then show respect to each other. Kind like KR and ET race each other.

I think they could do with looking at Mailin for inspiration. I kind of feel like some of race day team maybe better JIm Holley whom is such a fan remembers races passes etc, Ricky remembers the big ones but then mostly stuff from his era.

IMO Ralph asks similar questions each week. Ricky whats going through your head as a rider etc. Mailin seems to remember issues, where they finshed previously and only uses that to fill in when needed.

The booth is definitely better with ex riders in it. Both of those guys didn’t miss a trick- they picked up on line choices, triple jumps, lap times, why Eli messed up & KRoc coming up short on the section on the final lap immediately. The technical stuff that someone like Ralph or Duffey won’t ever get instinctively.

Once Reedy can get past the “we used to do this, we used to do that/having been there & done it” he’ll be great in the booth.

I do find RC more humble than Chad. Maybe because Chad is still a racer he has to have a certain mindset, which is different to someone no longer competing.

Chad & RC in the booth gets the thumbs up from me!

It was a rare and unique situation because Reed can provide insight people in the booth cant 99.99% of the time. He’s literally raced everyone on the track as recently as last week. Getting a racer who is currently competing in the exact championship he’s announcing is extremely rare. But yes Chad did great. I thought he did great back in 2012 too when he announced some after his crash at Dallas. I think sometimes RC is maybe held back a little by the script NBC Sports wants him to follow. People hate on Ralph but I can guarantee you he’s following the script NBC wants. Reed obviously had no obligation there and free will to say whatever he liked.

Kevin Harlan would be the absolute best guy to call the race. You could get away with never looking at the TV and be able to picture anything and everything that’s going on.

Feld Studios needs to find a new producer. Stop pandering to the first time watchers. When you look at other sports. Popular or unpopular, they talk in depth. Our sport has this in spades and it is what entices people to come back, watch, and learn about it.

Reed and RC were great.

Problem I find with the current production is that the commentary reminds me of an NFL game when there is 5 minutes to go in the 4th and the score is 48-0. They talk about all kinds of meaningless garbage to try and keep the 3 people still watching the game engaged.

Last night's race was incredible, all the heat races and the finals had non-stop action. The last thing we need to hear about during non-stop race action is zipping up jackets or who likes to go to the movies.
