Three weeks ago, while still getting used to the AF500, I decided to do a little local race here in Tucson. This is the Vet "Pro" class. The guy that holeshotsis FGR01 and the guy that passes me on the second lap is Tom Stuckey from Sierra Vista. Skip to the 4 minute mark after it loads if you want to cut to the chase. And watch to the end to see my helmet.

This wreck was pretty bad. Although I wasn't technically unconscious, I was totally confused for about 15 minutes.....and the only way I know I wasn't out is that in the original video you can hear me moaning and cussing right after I hit the ground. We edited it out since it sounded kind of gruesome. I'm still missing that 15 minutes, which by definition means this was a solid Grade 2 concussion, i.e., no riding for 6-8 weeks.

And yes, I had my Leatt on!! Probably a goddamm good thing I did, as I pretty much couldn't move my neck for 3 days. The last thing I remember was my helmet resting against the brace as I hit the ground, and thinking "Wow...this thing really does support your c-spine."

Here are three intriguing stills I pulled out of the video. Notice how in each one I'm progressively going over the bars, my legs are nowhere in sight, and my hands are still on the grips.

Oh.....and by the way, I have a very nice Service Honda AF500 for sale....I'm a 125 rider now.

Nice smooth riding there, until that snake jumped out and grabbed your wheel. Did the camera survive?

Hope you are alright.

Shit. Looks like you got ahold of that powerband at the wrong time. Were you getting tired? What year is your AF, and how much do you want for it? (the vultures are circling...)

Amen on the could have been worse! Nonetheless still very sorry you're dealing with this.

It is hard to tell but it looks like you might have close to looping out. I'd love to ride that track.....long start, fast straights without any stupid whoop sections.....looks like a nice Vet track.

Yeah, looked to me like he started to loop and then got kicked back over the front. Man thats a nasty way to take a soil sample.

I took a ride to the ER and had a CT of the head and neck, just to make sure all was ok. It was. Other than my neck being real sore for a couple of days, I was/am fine. Damn glad for the Leatt, recognizing that this is a study of one.

Steve, yep, I'll be there. RV spot #3. After watching Cudby's video from last Thursday, I'm kinda glad I'm not riding.....that mofo looked rough! And I'm sure it'll be even rougher at 3:30 on Saturday!

JTom, it's AJ's 2006. Very clean, very low hours, fresh suspension. PM me if you want pics/info.

Dang drmark, before World Vet and now before the Invitational...

Now where's that dipstick that said neck braces are just to fleece those from their disposable income..jackoff.

That was one heck of a hit, but glad you're not hurt worse....real glad your wore that neck brace....especially seeing your helmet's trashed...

Best wishes drmarker.

Damn....that looked like it sure hurt.

One comment : watching you hit that irst jump of the double , it almost looked like the rear well just never got any preload at all. Maybe you had fallen in to a deep rut with the rear , came up a little short , and then it bucked you. Either way , coming up a little short with the front end high , is just about a sure bet something like that was going to happen.

Just glad your ok dude. Wrecking is never fun.

You are selling the 500 because of a little get off? I thought you docs were smart at math. A 500 is 4 times greater than a 125 therefore the crashes will be 4X greater. Glad you are ok but the real shame is that you let a 4 stroke pass you.Wink

Man, that was ferocious! Glad to hear it wasn't any worse.

Didn't realise FGR was so fast.. cause I hear you get around the track pretty good.

Mark, I learned along time ago to ride the small bikes in the Vet classes for two reasons.

1) If you win, you're a hero because you're on a small bike

2) You lost because you're on a small bike.

wow Doc...glad you are ok other than the obvious. And thanks for sharing the details and the choice to follow doctor's orders (6-8 weeks off). Good reminder for all.

No doubt, a 500 is can sneak up on you (if it can happen to you, it could happen to anyone).

Where are you staying Michael? We'll be at the track either Thurs PM or Fri AM thru Sunday, but since we'll be in the RV, I won't be able to drive anywhere else. If we're talking get together at the track, we can do something at our place.

I'll PM you my phone number...

I'm heading down Friday early with Hoss (Factoryphoto here) to pick up credentials. Everything's open after that.

I've seen an old ALS-1 look like that.

Face first into an uphill at 4th gear WFO to a dead stop. Tore chest protector right off.

It was eerie to say the least.

That bike has some ass. I really enjoyed that video up until the crash. Kinda made my day but now I think I am going to have nightmares. Glad you are ok.

Ouch! That hurt me just watching. You were looking really smooth until the crash. Atleast you had a helmet cam on so you could capture it. Thanks for sharing.
