I can’t even imagine Preparing to race a1 with out sorting the ama or ACU/fim licence first. , starting to believe it was a marketing stunt as well

It's one thing to do the obstacles at a practice track while in your comfort zone and something entirely different when you have other riders going through the same sections as you at race speed and inches away from you.

Race experience counts for something.

I normally hate the idea of reality shows and the like, but I'm actually looking forward to seeing the videos of him at the stadium Saturday on the phone trying to get the license issues sorted out.

He was a pretty good sport on the repo show, I think he'll make it pretty entertaining!

I'm actually very interested in how they are playing this now. He's really good at this sort of marketing!

While he lacks in moto racing experience he's a very skilled bike handler which has to count for something.

I'd never been on an MX track/bike before my mid 20s, but after racing lots of downhill growing up it definitely helped.

Btw a top moto guy could theoretically apply for a world cup wildcard from their governing body and bypass the need for uci points, so the same could happen in the other direction.

What I'm seeing here is a cultural clash between the 2 sports. The money at the top of sx and the bar to bar racing means it takes itself super seriously compared to downhill (never heard of a downhiller getting homeschooled). Bernard is bringing a mtb attitude to sx and thats obviously pissing a lot of people off.

Just took a quick look at Anaheim I qualifying from last year. The 40th qualifier was less than 7 seconds off the top qualifier, Baggett. The 52nd guy was less than 10 seconds off the leader.

Does anyone actually believe that he's within 7 seconds of Webb, Tomac, Roczen, or Anderson? Or even 10 seconds? Even with his improvements, it sure looks like he is much further off the pace than that.

Guys like Macler or Marrone have been racing SX in France like forever.
Not top pilots by any means but seasoned veterans who know what they're doing and are way faster than this.
And they almost never make the cut in the US.

I think it’s cool of him to sack up and give it a go honestly. He definitely has the tools it takes to progress; I just wonder where his ceiling is. Anyone who watched him at the UCI downhill races can see the guy is a genius on two wheels.

You are correct. It counts for something. However, that something is different depending the situation. Timed practice? Not so much. Back of the pack heat race? Not so much. It's not like he is showing up having never been on the track with other riders.

I think we are forgetting that our comfort zone/adaptability/instincts and a world class athlete's are much much different.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd rather be wrong supporting someone then be wrong dragging them down, especially on pure speculation.

Let the man try he will be in C practice with riders of similar skills and Unlikely to make the 40 m’en cut but would have accomplished what he set out. its not like he will be in the way of Tomac or Roczen

Woah! He is definitely not going to be within 7 seconds of the top qualifier.

If he spent 2020 racing and practicing, he could do it for A1 2021. He definitely has the potential.

I can't believe the amount of hate on this site against some guy who enjoys riding a dirt bike like the rest of us. And wants to see if he can make the night show is a sx. Heck most of us dream about being able to race a sx. Only difference is he's doing something about it.
I don't know if it's a snobbery thing that's got ya noses out of joint cause his main job is racing bicycles and you're like how dare he think he can just race a sx race and get all offended.

I read this entire thread and saw no actual "hate". That term gets used too frequently. Someone else already made this point. Regardless, has he ever raced MX at any level in any country? If he hasn't, he has no business even signing up for an AMA SX race. I agree that his progress has been impressive. Let him prepare in 2020, do some actual races as an amateur, and see what happens in 2021. Seems reasonable.

I think that’s why people have a problem with it. Might as well let anyone race if you let this guy in. I know local school boy and vet guys that would make him look bad.

7 seconds is a lot on a 50 second lap. It's 1/7th of the lap. That's an entire rhythm lane.

True, but have you seen him corner? I get The top 5 could put almost a half second per corner into him. Another 2-3 easy in the whoops, another 2-3 in the rhythm when they're hitting the quad and he's doubling/tripling his way through. Att his point I want to see him make it just because he's a likable guy, but it doesn't look good
