Anyone else out there crack their gas tank right where the seat meets up to the tank? I’ve cracked 2 different tanks now, same exact spot on my 450 & 250. One had all the bolts and rubber mounts in. The other I was told to take the back two tank bolts out so it wasn’t so rigid. I took the those out and kept the rubber mounts on and shaved the two plastic slots on the seat that sit on the tank to be flush with the tank and taped and padded them so the slap wouldn’t be as hard and it’s still cracked. I don’t know what else to try!! I’ve taken them to titanium welder & welded both of them 4 times and still keep crackin’.

Never happened to me, haven't seen it happen to others (not saying there isn't a problem, just never seen it or heard of it until now)

A stress relief treatment is sometimes employed following severe forming or welding to avoid cracking or distortion due to high residual stresses, or to improve fatigue resistance. ... Most titanium grades are typically stress-relieved at about 1000°F (538°C) for 45 minutes and annealed at 1300°F (704°C) for two hours.

106 hours on mine, no cracks or dents that I know of. Guess I’ll watch out after reading this.

I have one of these on my crf450. Holds slightly more fuel than stock, but not by much. Company said it’s the same ergonomics as the stock tank

Never understood why people got excited about metal gas tanks returning to bikes. My first 2 bikes were 1970's models with metal tanks. Pinholes, dents, corrosion... Plastic tanks are awesome.

Pictures would be great. The last I checked there was no such thing as a CRF450f.

Finally! I have found someone with the same issue as me. I have craked 4 ti gas tanks on my 2019 Crf 450r works edition. Honda understands that it is an issue, and it is mostly an issue for there "elite riders" from what honda has told us. They have warrantied us the past 3 tanks but I'm on the verge of cracking my 5th tank in the exact same spot. Now honda is telling us they are done helping, $800 a tank is a lot of $$$. Have you found any solutions?
I have also removed the back two gas tank bolts whileeee also Purchasing ti- motor mounts (which helps with the felx of the motorcycle) but still tanks are still cracking.

Cast iron like a engine block, the welder drills one hole in front of the crack and another at the end of the crack to stop further damage. That may be helpful. As well as building up the area with more material. If removing material from the seat is needed that's easy. Could tank mounting points be a issue ?

This reminds me of the Ti subframes Yamaha sold under the gytr in the late 90's early 2000's. They were prone to cracking as well. I wonder if they are flexing and it's causing them to crack over time.

I'd say yes, but I bet its because of the metal work hardening (strain hardening or cold working) and then cracking.

Seems like the two most common reason that Ti cracks according to my Google-Fu is cracks caused by corrosion or Sustained Load Cracking.

I'd guess there is something putting pressure on that spot when your riding that is causing it. Maybe riding closer to the front of the bike higher up on the tank is causing extra pressure on that one spot.

You can see three wear marks to the right and up of the crack. Pressure on that area might be causing a "blow out" where the crack is.

Take the bolt out of the back mount of the tank and see how it does (many people do this saying that it makes the bike feel less stiff). Some of the factory bikes have the tank mounted with a rubber strap...I believe that's how the RX tank mounts.
