Per Matt Tedder

I know I read it on here, but with all the talk of giving Musquin's ride to Davalos in other threads, I figured this deserved its own. Couldn't find a thread through the search bar.

Good for them. So how many factory Austrian bikes are on the circuit now?

I'd say Adam has as good a shot as any. It seems easy to count Brayton out, but he did just win 2 years ago. For how many legit title contenders there are, there are still a big number of people who can steal a win on any given night like him, Baggett, Osborne, and hopefully we could add Malcolm to that list

Its getting crazy that we are getting close to more Austrian bike than the rest put together

There was a day not long ago when we had basically 4 factory teams with 2-3 riders each.

In 2005 there were 10 factory riders lined up for the main event.

I'm waiting to see where GasGas fits into the mix in 2021. Wink

I'd think the hunt is on for an outside partner (like Red Bull with KTM, and Rockstar with Husky) to help support the team.

There was also a day, not long ago when there were no KTM's on the gate at any SX event. Pretty amazing they have become the offroad titan they are now.

How is the finances of this working? I get that KTM isn't paying all of those salaries, and I assume most of those guys get way less money than Roczen and Tomac.

Is it just a matter that Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki have much more worldwide sales (in moto and other industries), so just don't need to spend that much promoting their brand, while KTM needs the promotion? Is it a Ford vs Ferrari thing, where KTM is just more interested in winning races than the other brands?

Exactly, like Anaheim 1 in 2005. That year factory KTM was 250F team only, and there were no KTMs in the 250SX main event at all.

This Tedder guy (who?) has factory KTM bikes, sponsors, etc. Factory Suzuki is a joke. JGR needs to ditch Suzuki and pick up bikes that support the sport. Suzuki aint it. If Suzuki has no will to live, so be it.

Ok for real at what point does it start to get out of hand for ktm?

4 factory 450 teams and now they want to add another with gasgas?

Dont get me wrong supporting riders is great... but

Wheres the line between competing and creating a “race monopoly” so to speak.

Can KTM simply offer more money and field the entire 450 class like they do KTM Jr challenge?

Like honda in the 80s with all the heavy hitters. Honda or yamaha etc could do it if they wanted, it isnt their priority tho.

It doesn't.

If the opportunity is there, why wouldn't they?

Monster would look way better with red and white.

Well, the claw makes every bike less good looking in my opinion, but I do agree.

KTM needs to buy one more brand and we can call it BIG four!
(They actually have Husaberg brand also but dropped it when Husqvarna came in.)

Tickle won't be on factory equipment. That said, that's another guy that could mix things up.

I'd think the hunt is on for an outside partner (like Red Bull with KTM, and Rockstar with Husky) to help support the team.
The minute i heard gas gas got bought by ktm. My first thoughts were JGR redder racing or MCR all three have full blown factory or factory level teams and could easily handle this. My vote if im ktm is JGR they run a great program and it would give ktm husky a North East Coast base of operations for as and the nationals. But tedder and MCR already have built in outside sponsors.
