I hear they're adding a third.

The prototype had a wrap around header for the 3rd muffler. Said it helps with top end...

A lot of people hate the 250 for the past 3 years and the 450 is scary looking around the track.
Love Honda reliability but I haven't been interested since 2008.

Best design by far. Shorter mufflers. Better than a one sided 3 foot bazooka. Looks better...sounds better.

But what was increased weight with no added performance?

I'm not sure how much added weight it really is. I have ridden both Honda 250/450's and can't tell any weight difference from the dual design. I've ridden back to back with my buddy's Kawies and anyone who says they can tell there's a weight difference is friggin cookoo. I like the sound and shorter mufflers of the Honda much better. I personally like the dual design.

I like the duals. They look cool and sound great. I’d bet everyone on this forum would love dual pipes if KTM started doing it

I stand corrected, the duals do offer slight more performance than single exhaust. I also agree that the shorter mufflers are more appealing to the eye. Just not quite sold on the added complexity and cost that comes with it.

A saw a video about this the other day. Some crazy mad-as-hell German dude with a funny mustache just GOING OFF about how completely stupid the dual mufflers on the CRF models are...

Couple beers in but Why doesn’t Honda try a single design from under the middle of the rear fender eventually. Like the cbr. I’m sure it’s possible. I know about clearance and stuff but could be decent.

Does the dual design eat into the air box size?

I think it looks rad and with the shorty mufflers. It reminds of the 2008 yz450 that came with a super restrictive super short muffler. I wonder if that design could be revisited?

This is the one and only reason I won’t consider a Honda. Everyone complains about how expensive the sport is but people are willing to buy a bike that costs that much extra to replace the exhaust system? I’ll stick to a single side bike and think of it as getting 12 free practice days with my money saved.

You do not HAVE to replace the exhaust system, the bike already produces the most HP of any other 450.

Crash damage wise, I see less damage to CRF exhaust canisters (likely because they are shorter) than the bigger canisters on other bikes. Facts matter.

I love how much with regard to bike design we argue about largely inconsequential, but easily identifiable things.

Better yet is how people bitch about the “complexity” of the design.

Um watttt? It’s a pipe that has a y. Been this way for almost ten years. Not complex at all.

I love the duals. If you can’t afford an exhaust just leave it stock, bikes make good power from the factory. Most people are not getting bored with stock CRF450R power.

But It's just an easy identifier, right? Like aluminum vs steel frames. I mean, the cross-section shape of cross-members might be a much bigger factor in feel than frame material (I don't know), but we will never analyze it that way.

Thinking about going red for 2020 in the spring. The only thing buggin me is that riding in the woods requires a double charge for the PMB endcaps.Sad

In a world where form should follow function, if there was an absolute advantage to any of the above data, then all players would adopt like designs. While the numbers, themselves, are objective, if they don't translate into podiums, then they are insignificant.

TC, ET & now KR come to mind as far as results & podiums go. It’s hard to dispute the ride ET had going on in 15 as he was killing it. Unfortunately they haven’t resulted in championships do to the riders getting hurt while in contention for one.

I guess reading comprehension comes into play here lol. I wasn’t paying attention that op said “450”. Since I prefer to ride a 250 that’s where my thought process was. I can’t disagree with you on no need to replace an exhaust without damage in the 450.

My 08 250 was the best bike I’ve owned yet. Granted the the only experience I have with new bikes was my 16 rmz250... so you can imagine my disappointment there.

Funny how Honda diagrams against their own gimmick they created, their “centralized” philosophy

I would rather have 2 back brake pedals than 2 fart cans for brake dragging capabilities in left and right handed turn

I don’t k ow how to make it happen but I’m also not Japanese or Austrian
