Bike buying question

Edited Date/Time 11/23/2019 6:56am
Had a question for those that buy new dirt bikes every year or every other year. What do you typically lose when trading in or selling your bike. It looks to me to be around 3k? Plus any sales tax for the new bike.
It looks like buying used newer bike is 4-5 k ish ...then in typical short order you need to fix/ maintain a bunch of stuff that adds up pretty quick. I thought it was tossing money out the window buying new but maybe it’s not as bad as I thought. Appreciate hearing other people’s thoughts.

I look for deals and ususally buy leftover models. For instance this year bought a leftover 2018 yz450f in April. To have a fresh bike every year it costs me 2-3k a year. At that though get top dollar for the used ones. They are usually cleaned up so well they look about showroom new.

For (close to) the price of a newer used bike, you can buy a leftover RMZ250 all day

Or RMZ 450..... Both RM's are excellent bikes for Moto for thousands less.

That’s ok though, because after riding it for 2 years you don’t want to get rid of it.

I always finance mine at 0 percent, usually pay 200 a month, sell it each year and get a new one, usually sell it for about what I owe, so I spend 2400 a year. Yamaha 250Fs, usually low hours (30-60). If you ride more and a 450 or a less popular bike, you’ll be out more.

Do you trade it back in at your dealer or steel it on the open market? I guess it may be a little less expensive if you get a good used bike that doesn’t require a lot of maintenance but getting a new bike each year like that would not be to bad..we have a 6.125 sales tax in MA so I would be cutting a check to them for around 500 each year..

Here’s what a local dealer is selling the Suzuki’s for...

The same dealer has Husky and KTM, too...even when they’re on sale...they cost quite a bit more than the Zooks. I’m sure the peanut gallery will comment on this; but, someone came in here and brought up the Suzuki...how good it is (he loves his...& I know that he goes awfully damn good on his!).

I’m currently on the ‘19 KTM 450 SXF...but, before that? I spent a little over a year on the ‘18 RMZ450. It was a GREAT bike. It was VERY dependable. It was VERY inexpensive to maintain.

Good Luck!
