I had no less than 20 emails between myself and tom morgan discussing the work to be done to my rm before i sent it to him, during the process probably 5 or more letting me know the progress, after the work was done another 5 or so emails and multiple phone calls back and forth helping me get the bike dialed in and talking through some jetting issues i was having. Very helpful, very informative and killer customer service. All of that was after probably 10 ATTEMPTS to get gorr to answer phone calls, emails, and texts with out the first one ever being replied to. I learned quickly who not to send it to//

I was leaning toward Gorr because I have several 82/83 YZ100's and 125s I need work done on. Does Tom do vintage?
I had heard of him before, wish I would have tried him. His website is Tom Morgan racing. Looks legit.
Read his about page and you'll see he's very legit.

I thought I saw somewhere that Eric was now doing motor work for Race Tech (or another similar company?) I know I saw something like this, because I remember my first thought was "guess he'll meet deadlines now that someone else is signing his paychecks" Anyone recall??

You’re right. He just replied to the email I sent him this morning. My cylinder is done. I guess he had tried to send it UPS COD(weird if you ask me) a while ago, I was expecting a call and to pay over the phone so I guess it’s my own fault. I remember seeing a Charge On Delivery slip on my porch and wondering what the heck it was for. It didn’t include any info on who was sending it so I didn’t follow up, never crossed my mind it could have been for my cylinder, wish he would have let me know what was going on so I could have been home and prepared. So you’re right, don’t delete this, it’s good for everyone to know about this COD pay system and to be prepared.

Please explain how I fucked up? Was I magically suppose to know who the COD was from? And if I’m not expecting one then I’m sure as hell not going to make any attempt to pay one. I provided a note with my cylinder to call me/email/text and I could prepay for the work and shipping to accelerate the process!

In my entire life I have never received a package COD or heard of anyone receiving one let alone a company in the mx industry to bill this way. I requested a total and attempted to contact him many times before the COD notice. He could have informed me or offered payment via PayPal like he did today.

Hell, my local shop, I text them what I want, they text me when it arrives, and pay for it when I pick it up.
Did you fill out one of his service order forms and specify method of payment on that form?

I have done plenty of business with Eric in the past on 144 kits, cylinder replates, headwork, ect.
In my experience with him, he is pretty good at what he does.
He's not the easiest person to get hold of, but I deal with that because his prices are so damn low.
I doubt there is anybody that does it cheaper. So if you want him to have a better internet presence, shipping department, or get more phone lines and hire a few receptionist to take your calls while he is busy WORKING, your prices will go up. Just keep that in mind when you are dealing with him.
Personally, I don't have a problem with his business practices, and hope that he stays just the way he is.
Yes, This ^

I've used Eric Gorr for 6 engines (5 vintage and 1 modern 144 YZ) . I have never had an issue on communication with him on any of my projects. Had my 144 done and back to me inside of 10 days. I have been tremendously happy with all of his work. The last one was about 2 years ago, so I can't say what may be happening at the moment, but I usually enclose my CC info with the engine, so there's zero holdup on the payment end of things, and yes, I trust him. Widely accepted as a Yamaha specialist ,but does all makes.

I've also used Tom Morgan for 4 vintage engines--- fantastic communication/people skills ,and even better at machine/porting. Definitely gives good advice and just a really nice ,humble guy. You would never know that he won all those AMA Pro Mechanic of the Year Awards when he was with the Factory Kawasaki Race Team.

My opinion is you'll be happy with either one. Both are good guys, been doing engine work for 30+ years , easy to talk to and will listen to what you want and are expecting.

He just dump your stuff in the mail via COD and not contact you in anyway shape or form? Doubt it.

Who the hell doesn’t see or inquire about a package awaiting for them, especially when they are expecting something?

Bit of fail from both parties here.

UPS: You have a COD package awaiting from an Eric Gorr

OP: “I wonder what it could be? I guess we’ll never know!”

Read the thread.

I had been expecting phone call, text, email, smoke signals, anything to know what was going on and the last thing I was expecting was my cylinder. There was no indication who the cod was from. UPS left a slip saying they tired to collect payment for a COD package and I had not heard anything from him since August. I looked over what they left trying to figure out who was sending something, firgured it to be spam when there was no sender listed. The absolute last thing i would have guessed that it could be was my cylinder. Why? because I asked him to call me for payment, in clearly written English on his service form. I would have declined COD if he had offered it and if I had accepted the option of cod I would expect a tracking number so I can track it and have someone at the house to take care of payment.

He literally works under the same roof as millennium but is his own separate business. Being under the same roof as them is one of the reasons I went with him.

everyone failed.

I sure as shit would have tried to call ups or if they left the tracking number i would have looked it up, to find out where it is from.

that said i had EG do a motor for me and communication wasn't great. I was able to get a hold of him a few times, I think I had the best luck in the early mornings. I think he's just very busy.

Another reason I'm glad I just went with Millennium.
Replate, power valve service, matched piston. Two week turn around. Great customer service. Phone answered the first time I called.

My buddy I used to ride with had Tom do a 307 big bore in his 2006 CRF250R. Tom called him over (this was back in ‘06, too) and over again till the bike was running right. Ran like a raped ape, he gained himself another customer bc of that.

Eric no longer works for millennium.
Tom Morgan is the technical director now at millennium.
Tom also continues to run his own person shop as well.

Just checking thats all. Eric doesn't usually make those kinds of mistakes if the form is filled out correctly. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

My 2006 KX250 has the cylinder and head done by Tom Morgan, it runs excellent! I called him multiple times before sending to explain what I was looking for, he called me during the process to let me know the status and expected shipping date. When I received the cylinder it looked great and he assisted with jetting after assembly and I tell you what I would never use any one else!

Excellent experience with Tom Morgan!
