I know there's no bad riding; some's just better 'n others. But, what's your absolute favorite? Mine is sand...requires no throttle control, except WFO.

My buddies all claim, and I agree, that I was at my best in hard pack dusty slick conditions. Everyone else hated it, but I ate it up.

My favorite conditions have always been thanksgiving weekend at Monster Mountain. But I do love me a WFO sand practice track.

I turn into a completely different rider on a freshly prepped track with loamy dirt. Ideal is if they run one moto of big bikes before I get on the track, I absolutely love shredding a fresh berm, surrounded by even more soft dirt.

Old school mx tracks (e.g., Carlsbad) and other outdoor-ish tracks. In other words, I like tracks that are relatively safe. Doubles are fine if they are done right but I prefer tracks without them because then everyone goes pretty good. It makes the racing better and that is what I enjoy the most.

It's not fun riding tracks with "do or die" type jumps because you rarely get into any dog fights with anyone. On more of a "vet track" type course, you get to dice it up with guys. Going inside to outside, etc. THAT is what mx is all about IMO.

What I hate are tight little tracks with lots of unnecesarily dangerous jumps and lame whoop sections that are life threateningly dangerous. Being more dangerous does NOT equal more fun.

No JT, its just what I was brought up on. This dusty p.o.s. was where I raced and practiced for almost 2 years straight before racing anywhere else. I might as well have been a flat tracker!

I'd have to agree first with everything Bullpen wrote. Then, on to the tracks. First, Rio Bravo in Houston, neglected since the 70's, this place is so damned awesome after a good rain with no track prep. Hasn't hardly been any track prep since the 70's either! It is under new ownership now and getting a new lease on life. Second, only because it's a 300 mile drive would be Cycle Ranch near San Antonio. Lots of tacky red clay in the soil there and when moist it is traction city. Although it is a modern track most all of it is vintage friendly. Nothing quite like a moist loamy corner to throttle through WFO with no feeling of eating shit.

Washougal 10 years ago when the loam was perfect. A track up north called "wards creek" that had a little mix of sand in with some loamy dirt....i couldn't ask for much better. And Albany SX ( motocross track ) on race days when they have it prepped. It got really brutal by the end of the day.....but man , the practices and first moto's we're always great.

Swan MX Park in Tyler ,Tx. first run out in morning practice after the` track had been watered and worked overnight. East Texas red dirt disced (disc'd??) about a foot deep and dragged smooth on top. Looked like someone used a flour sifter on the whole track! Talk about a sweet place to ride.

Fernley; The old CHP academy, sand dunes by the Port of Sac after the metal bridge first left.

And even old Hobo when some rain got on it was good; only for like 10 riders or so max.

Tomorrow's gonna be a mudder. I hope they keep the track open. Headed up to Berthoud to test out the new Boyesen's in the 500AF.
