How’s that working out? Tonight’s Red Bull Straight Rythm Celebrates the 2 Strokes in their full glory. Thanks Red Bull!
What if Monster and Red Bull took a stand on the rules? Hmmm

If monster, red bull, and rockstar all teamed up for a new sanctioning body and it could make things better. That could be the way out of the ama/fim/ feld bs. Not sure how that would work since I'm just a dumbass with a keyboard, but it may be worth thinking about.

It was exploiting a rule made to keep brands like bsa, triumph in the world championship in the late 60s I believe

A 550 could run in 250

It was a hoax, we were sold a bill of goods. We were told that two strokes would be outlawed and there would be nothing if we didn’t have four strokes ready as a back up. The sky was falling.

And closing the desert because of a turtle. That is the point, there has never been a ban, there still isn’t a ban in spite of fuel injected two-stroke’s. Nothing but fear being sold

It was exploiting a rule made to keep brands like bsa, triumph in the world championship in the late 60s I believe

A 550 could run in 250

The 550 (540? - or was that just what KTM could bring the LC4 down to, easily?) rule was American.

World MX, was CC to CC, for many, many years. I can't recall the year they, the FIM, brought in the 500CC 2T, to 630/650 rule - sometime in the early 90s. Inspired by the US handicap rules, I think, and, they allowed a bigger again capacity limit than the US. Jackey Martens was the first modern era World '500' 4t Champ, in 93 - on what was said to be a 630cc Husky, which, was legal, of course. The '650' class, that became MX3 in 04, came into being in 2003, and, I think any 4ts in the then version of MX1, went back to being limited to 500cc. Then, it went to 450s in 04

Whilst it was still CC to CC, round about 78/79, Steve Whitlock protested the CCM Team - I think it was in France, where, I think, Bob Wright finished in front of his Honda rider(s). Or, at least qualified in front of them. Bob had been giving them (Honda), grief throughout the year. He was accused of running a 580, or somesuch, but my CCM history book I have - Rolling Thunder - said he didn't like the oversized bikes, as he was a 'revver' - well, as much as he could be on a CCM......... Woohoo Whitlock / his employers, didn't like an 'ancient' Brit 4t being, at times, in front of Hondas RCs. Oh the irony of Honda, a company so committed to 4 strokes throughout their history, who only went to 2ts to win, harassing a tiny company like CCM. And then, being at the forefront of the 4t superiority rules, in Motorcycle racing.

Equivalency - anything other than that, is handicap racing. We're now into a couple of decades of handicap rules being so bloody wrong.

If Monster was not so tied to Kawasaki who doesn't make a 2 stroke but I don't see them pushing this without Kawi support. If Kawasaki did make 2 stroke 125s and 250s I could see the coordinated push by the energy drinks since at that point the main sponsored teams' manufacturers would have an interest. Yamaha, Kawasaki, KTM, Husky.

On an amateur level, electric is an unfair advantage.
So when the big 5.5 release electric bikes the AMA will allow it. Alta was ahead of it's time, and should have put the technology into a vehicle that would sell better than dirt bikes first to stabilize the business. Sometimes it's better to go where the money is in order to go where your heart is later so you don't lose your ass.

That is one hell of an idea bub..... As free-spirited as those companies are ( they would have to be, look at the shit they peddle...), with their market savvy, and some solid brainwork behind it, they could really be a wake up call to the idiots running the show now. As it stands, we can't even seem to get a riders drug tests handled without it looking like a monkey fucking a football. And Lord knows with them arm in arm, the money is easily there.......

The consumer killed the two stroke For most brand s, and if Yamaha and Ktm were selling so many of them the others would follow suit

More people buy four strokes , so the factory’s put their money into them

I dissagree. The factories pushed those expensive pigs down the consumers throat. Yamaha sells every 2 stroke they make...same as KTM. Also, isn't KTMs best selling bike a 300 two stroke?

Look at Suzuki. How many people are running out buying a new 4stroke? Suzuki 2 strokes outnumber their 4strokes everwhere I go.

The AMA killed the 2 stroke by making an them race with 4 strokes.

Everyone knows the 250 2 stroke can't match what the 450 4 stroke is putting out.

Put the 250 2 stroke in the 250 4 stroke class maybe a different story.

BLAME the AMA.

Money was in abundance when the 4-stroke push happened too, so not much backlash. Also, so many squids can ride a 4-stroke. 2-Stroke takes a bit more, so Johnny spent that dough.

Say what you will about rules, conspiracies etc; there is little doubt in my mind that modern 4 strokes are simply better MX bikes than any two stroke.

For me the writing was on the wall in 2000 when I watched Joel Smets lay waste to everyone at the 500cc World MX round in Broadford. He was on his RFS era KTM570, and along with the other riders on their YZM500’s and the like, it was clear as day that in anything other than perfect traction conditions, the two strokes just weren’t competitive anymore.

I’ve never understood that argument. How does being harder to ride make it a better bike?

Because it creates a better rider. Period.

That may be the case, but it’s small consolation for not winning.

You may have forgotten, the AMA sold the franchise and the ability to make the rules.
