He made clear he did not expect any money from the million. He DID lose money himself out of his kawi bonus and purse by moving over. (Not a lot to Eli (I.e. millionaire) but a significant amount to him and probably a TON to you or I. He was never even reimbursed that. Yeah he didn’t expect it but fuck yea then I would blow off steam about it if it were me. Also, if he didn’t move over...imagine the hate only Joey would get from the internet.

He also said he never got a thank you from Eli despite Eli’s family and mechanic doing so.

For people calling him bitter or cry baby. Remember he gave someone a gift and it took a good deal of money out of his own pocket. He is being honest and open....which is refreshing.

And people picking apart his words in prior replies on here....Jesus. You’re just fishing for reasons to give him shit.

I’m a 100% bigger fan after this interview. He obviously puts in the work, and big in my book, is he isn’t wasting opportunities given to him. Can’t say that about everyone.
If he knew he was going to lose money, but he still pulled over, that's on him. If he did it thinking Eli would make it worth his while, that's also on him.

I'm in the minority here but it is nice to hear a rider say how he really feels and not just answering questions with canned answers....Most of you bitch about riders interviews and the media not getting deep and when we get an interview that was done in such a manor what do you do....bitch
I'm impressed with both Joey and Anton...and I'm sure that Anton and Swap will feel the political BS from Kawi and probably the Tomac's for this interview...Great job to everyone it was a great listen!

I dunno what happened, I swear he used to be pretty chill back when he was on KTM. Seems like when he started making runs for championships, and suffering all those losses, he beat himself up so much and just turned into a bitter asshole. Be more like Adam, Joey
Spent years training at the Carmichael ranch. No surprise here.

Clearly, Joey did not pull over for Eli because he liked Eli or wanted to do him a favor. He was trying to play the role of a good teammate in the hopes that Kawasaki would give him 'credit' for that at some point (2nd year) which they did not.

No way Eli could say anything. No one wants to or should be involved in the 'rigging' of a sporting event. And I am sure Eli thought he was going to pass him before the finish. He was going much faster at the time.

In my humble opinion, Joey also really made a big mistake actually 'waving' Eli by. He wanted the whole world to know what he was doing. That he 'let' Eli win. That could not have set well with Eli nor would it with any racer.

Think about it. If you know you are faster than someone and they wave you by and then act like they did you a big favor? Come on. Anyone of the caliber of Eli (RC, RD, RV, CR, JS) would not be happy about it.

I assume Monster pays a hefty portion of the Kawi riders’ salaries, and have some influence on who they hire. Savatgy letting Eli by cost Monster a million bucks. I’m sure that not everyone was thrilled with that outcome.

It was actually 2 million (the fan won, too). But, giant payouts like that almost always come from an insurance policy that's paid for whether anyone wins or not.

I agree and that’s one way to look at it. I think Joey basically was trying to say as much by repeating “I don’t expect money”. But the whole point is, it was a dick move by tomac. People can can dress it up by saying it’s “business” or Eli didn’t ask Joey to do it or it’s on Joey.

I respect Joey for doing it and that’s the guy on the bike who I want my kid idolizing.

I think 500guy made a great analogy, who doesn’t tip when they get a million dollar gift from a teammate?

Without listening to the podcast, the only thing I can say that I truly dislike about Joey is that silly Versace tag......

I think that was a pretty good listen. I do like he didnt really hold anything back even if it sounded like he was whining. I hope he gets a 450 ride because he has the talent for sure.

Where to start... complaining and negativity is the general theme of this podcast:
1. I don’t think this makes a good case for him getting signed to a team. (Bashing Ex team and team mates) - He certainly won’t get a fill in at Kawi in the future.
2. Eli is socially awkward- no need to publicly disparage him on a pod cast. This doesn’t really help anyone so why do it? (Saying he didn’t congratulate you on having a baby?)
3. Ok Eli didn’t thank you for pulling over at MEC or pay you the difference. We get that this is a crap situation but again what’s the point of bringing it up? I wonder why the Tomac’s made a deal and then went back on it?
(Can we find out if Musquin got paid when he pulled over for Dungey?- Probably)
4. Just so everyone knows- JS and AC used to hate each other, then they got a long sort of but lately they haven’t spoken much.

He's still welcomed at places he's worked at previously and, like he'd said about he and ZachO, other riders like & hang with Joey.

So, I get that he's telling a story about everyone-else's hero/fav-rider...but, guess what? Shit happens. There is surely two sides to this story; but, I'll give Joey full faith and credit for beyond heist about his side of it.

I like this dude and I hope he lands a ride that empowers him to "stay in it".

The Million to Eli was a direct payout, that has been confirmed multiple times, The million to the Fan I think was an Annuity but I'm not sure.

You dont give gifts with the expectation of something in return. That makes it a transaction. Not a gift.

To me, its like holding the door for a girl and getting pissed when she walks in and doesnt give you her number. You look like a whiney little beta male by doing that shit.

$900,000 dollars and not even getting a "thank you".

That's his point.

I try to put myself in Eli's position here - you're raging through the pack, catch your teammate, very likely would've passed him anyway, and Joey puts his frickin' left hand out (could he be any more obvious?) in order to "help" me. There is no way on earth Joey didn't know that the camera would pick that up (at least Musquin was a wee bit less obvious when he let Dungey by).

Eli never asked for Joey to move over, and likely believes it was a bit of an unwanted gift...Joey comes off very entitled to me, and his little quid pro quo move didn't quite work out how he wanted.

Nothing here diminishes Eli at all in my eyes, only JS.

I agree, i am a fan now.
I think he needs to express himself and forget about what people think a bit tho, he's way too worried about that.

So he needs to keep quit for the lord Eli and team? If he feels this is the way it is, he got all the reasons and rights to tell the world.

I dont blame him for doing it. I just like it when someone speek his feelings.

It compares because he also complained about money too.

Dont get me wrong, if all of this is true then eli clearly lacks manners. A thanks is expected no doubt.

Don't see how/why you think ET is somehow not a good person because of this. He did nothing but ride a race.

I would never want my kid to idolize a rider who rigged a race by pulling over to wave someone by. I give Joey some slack on this but he should not have done it how he did or at all.

And Hannah pulling over for Broc is not the same. His employer told him to do it. No one asked or told Joey to do it. Especially not Eli.

I agree, he should feel pissed off, I think they have took the piss out of him, but kind of his own fault,
in my mind there's no way should he have moved over to let Eli win, should have won the thing & bollox to lord Eli & Kawasaki, what good has it done him, the fans all think he`s a moaning loser now.

I hope he gets a good ride & some redemption, beat the fokkers is the only way.

After listening to the whole thing I’m a big fan, he spoke his mind and say it like he felt it was. You can call it complaining all you want, but if certain people acted like dicks and everything said was true I’d be pissed. Good on him for telling his side and not holding back, hope he gets a ride next year and kills it.

I actually love that song and BR so much appreciated!Laughing That’s my take on it anyways, others may or may not agree but I don’t really care, I’m glad to hear someone step up and speak their mind.

Joey,

I know you are reading this thread. Take all this negative energy, bottle it up, and pour it in the fuel tank of your yellow bike next year. Twist the throttle and show everyone what you and that outdated yellow pig are capable of. You have many fans who stand behind you. Congrats on your baby girl.

The problem is.....the way he feels!

Maybe if he really felt like this, “man kawasaki hooked me up this year, gave me a shot, thank you. I’m looking forward to what’s next, I have no idea what is next but whatever it is, I’m gonna beat it like I stole it!”

Maybe if he really felt like that and said that, it woulda been a better statement about him!
