Just saying good luck attracting new fans when the only other way to watch is by still paying for some sort of tv package, and then watching half the event live on one channel, and having the 2nd half of the event non live, 10 hours later, on a different channel.

There’s a reason you don’t typically see many, if any other sports following this model.

Not saying moto would become a mainstream sport by doing it like other sports, but they certainly aren’t doing themselves any favors by doing it this way.
I think this is actually one of the smallest reasons this sport will never be "mainstream".

The high cost and inconvenience of participating in this sport are the largest factors, imo. Casual fans aren't sitting there waiting for race time, they'll just happen to catch it if it's on.

It's so much cheaper to put little Johnny and jackie in stick and ball sports, just like all their friends. Cheaper, safer and a lot more convenient.

Oh I definitely agree. That’s why I said it prolly wouldn’t be mainstream even if they did like other sports. It’s just frustrating seeing sport you love do things that actively detract new viewers even if there are very logical reasons for them having to do it that way.

Absolutely frustrating. There are reasons ($) for bumping SX/MX for other programming as it's all about the number of viewers. We are very niche, and I think this sport will continue that same trend for a very long time, unfortunately. We will still have options moving forward to consume, we just have to pay for them.

Destroy cable tv? Laughing How many cable tv providers are in your area? Cable tv is a fuckin monopoly. They can charge whatever the hell they want and you’ll pay it to get 300+ channels of useless bullshit like QVC and HSN just so you can get the 5-10 channels you actually want. Want to cancel? Call the 800 number, go through the prompts for 10min, sit on hold for 15min, then you finally get to speak to someone in India, who after playing 100 questions and annoyingly smacking their keyboard in the background, ultimately throws in free HBO for 3 months and takes $20 off your bill and you hang up the phone feeling like you got a win. Fuck that.

With streaming it’s click to signup, click to cancel. Click to upgrade packages, click to downgrade. No bullshit. Pay for what you want, cancel when you’re done. None of that 2yr contract horseshit. Plus, unlike cable, there’s actually competition to keep prices/service in check.

You realize if you have a few buddies to split the cost of the app with you, you can all log in with the same username and password right?

We split ours 10 ways this year. 9 bucks for the entire MX and SX season. Never had an issue.

Cable TV is a thing of the past. Only thing it’s good for is the doom and gloom news and a playoff game every now and then.

Trust me, all sports and entertainment in general are going to this method of viewing. I actually love knowing what I pay for is what I get. I have actually saved money with NBC sports gold app so don't say that's the reason. I was paying $100 a month for cable and internet just so I had the NBCSN and Fox sports to watch the races in sx and mx. Once the gold app came, I stopped cable and saved about $30 a month. I'm no genius, but $30 a month for the sx/mx season easily out weights nbc gold app. Don't say it's about the money because you don't know what you are doing.

I don't think it is the NBC Gold App's intention to destroy the main channel from which their parent company, NBC operates, however. In that case, the moto streaming is not trying to destroy cable.

By the way, the increase in prices and the multiplication of channels among streaming services Dimetime mentioned are already happening. Disney just announced its own streaming service. Netflix just raised their prices, while they are being asked to remove content. There's Apple TV. Every few weeks I hear about some new streaming service I can get for just $9.99 a month. Open your eyes, guys: pretty soon you will have to pay 10 different companies $20 each to get approximately the same amount of entertainment that you can get right now on cable TV.

Sim racing on NBCSN

As a new sim racer, I find this awesome. As a moto fan, it's almost a kick in the nuts.

And to the moran above complaining about streaming, it's called a free market. No one wants to pay $150 a month for bullshit. I'd rather pay for what I use. Same reason I will fly Frontier if I have a backpack, water bottle, and less than a 3 hour flight.

Why are some of you so worried about the long term vitality of cable television? Who gives a shit? How much TV do you people watch? I pay to watch the 2 dirt bike series and antenna for everything else. Both series cost me half of what month of cable cost. This is simple economics.

Good thing for me that I have very little interest in 99% of the crap that is out there then. I pay for the MX/SX app and Netflix. And I’m coming out way ahead of what I was paying for in my cable package. I only get what I want and don’t have to sort through 300 channels of pure garbage.

As soon as I realized it wasn't being telecast on a normal channel that I have and could record on my PVR I lost interest and spent zero time looking for alternatives. I USED to be a die-hard fan...now - meh. Couldn't care less. The sport is in trouble. No Doubt About it.
