You are right although he did drop the hammer (I think) 2nd moto Pala and pretty much the 2nd moto in CO.

And you would have to say he did the same thing 2nd moto Southwick with the difference being this year he ran out of steam and could not take the win.

That is very unlike Eli outdoors. 26 points is not enough of a lead if he has one bad moto which he usually does each year.

Yeah he was, and then I think he lost it when his bike broke in that 1st moto. I believe he got the red plate back at millville though.

Bike broke and had a weird 2nd moto... never know how it's gonna go.

Not true at all. He settled for 7th first moto at WW and for 3rd second moto at Southwick. Probably the smart move but it was making a choice not to push any harder.

The next two races will really tell a lot. If Eli does not win a moto then he is in a dogfight with Marv and Zacho and he may not win the title. Roczen can get right back in it too with a couple of wins. But if Tomac wins two of the next four motos he should be in good shape. I am not sure that will happen though. Plus he has had a mechanical each of the last two years.

Everyone peaks. Maybe Eli is at that point. He talks about retiring in a couple of years. New contact signed. You can tell the 2019 bike is not as good. Girlfriend. Dogs. Likes flying. The good life. Lots of things.

I don't think the others have caught up to his speed from last year. I think he has slowed down and is not in as good of shape for those late moto charges.

I think you have 'settling' and 'not fast enough' confused

If he brings this mentality to SX in 2020...?

Tomac has been pretty good so far this year. Not great. Last year he was great.

But if he wins his third title in a row that is "greatness" without a doubt.

None of those guys CR22 mentioned won three in a row except for Ricky and he is on a level all his own. ET is going to have to raise his game a little the last six races to pull it off.

wut? Reed is getting quite salty. That's such a shame. I wish he could keep on competing and not be bitter.

He can win Millville and Washougal.. 2nd to Marv at Unadilla- then bring it home easy for last 2 rounds.
That’s what I would do.
I’m sure he’d like to wrap it up a round early for a change lol

Eli is fine, and will go down as one of the greats even if he hung it up today. Some of his freakish rides like Hangtown 15, GH 15, last year outdoors late charges with freak speed or Oakland 18, SLC 18 are some of the most jaw dropping rides I’ve ever personally seen watching a race. Yes I grew up watching MC, RC but some of those late race freak rides were more impressive as a fan to watch IMO. He is in a great place to assert himself into very rare air in the history books.

As a Reed fan you have a point.

IMO Reed's career highlight was 2011 MX when he was beating RV and RD. Despite not winning the title he rode great against great competition.

True, 04 RC was out the whole series and 08 JS7 was. Can’t deny Reeds win total and his place in the books, but he had some good timing on his side at times to rack it up.

Shoe on the other foot. Who did James beat?

Answer. Everyone Chad beat and Chad.

That's a slim margin to write someone off over.

Apply it again to Dungey.

By this thinking, only RV or RC's titles truly mean anything, by virtue of two and three other riders. SMH.

RD beat all the guys out there today, including Reed. And he doesn't go running his mouth and not backing it up. Chad Reed is the Moto equivalent of the bagel boss guy.

Tomac does have some of the greatest rides ever that I will always remember. Sure, no SX championships but who won the championship is really not memorable to me. I will be hard pressed to 'remember' 10 years from now CW2 or JA21 won the last two years.

Individual races are memorable and he has some amazing ones in SX and motocross through the years. If he pulls off three outdoor titles in a row everyone will remember that.

That's right. In 10 years nobody will tell stories about how cool it was when Dungey was really consistent and got a bunch of uneventful podiums and won the title. They will talk about the time his bike wouldn't start at Southwick, he was half a lap down from last place and rodelike a madman to a top 5.

I was just using Chads words against him, was quite easy honelstly. I think Chad is good for the sport and I have tired to like him over time but he has dragged more guys down over the years while lifting himself up more than anyone I can think of. Talked shit about Dungey after 10, one of the years RV statrted slow he was running his mouth after he got hurt that he would have taken control of the sereis. He has a few times talked about the current crop of guys like they are less than him. Reed quit racing MX because of a competitor, that’s as Busch league as it gets. Matthes talked about a time the team showed up too Glen Helen and he left because it wasn’t groomed, and he thought he was gonna compete with RC and later Stew doing that? He has no ground to stand on, he has talked about guys now won’t push for a win like they did. Reeds biggest problem was the fact that he didn’t push espiaclly compared with RC and Stew but now when he talks about himself he lumps himself in with those guys.

That is my point though. When or where did which championships matter?

He didn't include a reference implying or stating he was better than the current crop. His position as a current rider doesn't imply he is judging himself in there. It's no different than if Matthes, Weege, You or me came to the same conclusion. He said there wasn't greatness like RC or James. There isn't a dominant guy right now. There is a lot of parity. How the parity is achieved is just perspective. Is it because there are lots of dudes on the level or not one dude who is exceptional? He has raced and beat all of them, and at 37 got a podium, hence it's not hard to imagine an old cunt thinking the current crop isn't what it has been in the past.

RC won a lot of titles holeshotting Kyle what's his face. Does Dungey's first 450 title count? James beat who else in 2008 that makes that title worth something over Chad's 09 MX title. I guess Chad is the yardstick? Which is ironic given people have a problem on him commenting on greatness.

My point being, never beat the dominant guy. RD won when RV wasn't there. No one questions that though because he thanked God and stuttered through his sponsor list instead of calling a shovel what it is.
