Man that jump was a booter. Seems like he hung in the air forever. Are these insane jumps really worth it?
Glad to see it was not worst. Heal up Axle.

It looks like he gave it a gentle tap early on, but not enough. You can only go to the brake once with effectiveness.

Between almost hitting the roof a few weeks back and this, he's using up his 9 lives quickly. Tough way to make a living.

So glad this wasn’t fatal, going that far has horrific repercussions. Hoping they don’t reach out to someone as a fill in for the live show... That’s too far! While jumping far is cool, I do not want to see someone die.

“Having a crash ahead of something you’ve been working so hard toward just plain sucks,” said Axell Hodges. “The team and I were making a lot of progress during testing and the distances we were approaching looked good for Sunday’s event. Unfortunately, I made a mistake in air and wasn’t able to adjust in time for landing. I’m shocked I’m not in worse shape and feel extremely grateful to have been able to get up from this crash.”

You can teeter totter the bike in the air with gassing it and hitting rear brake. I used to do it in my younger days in the dunes. He should have dipped the nose much harder as hit max height, but this is easier said than done when flying at these heights/speeds.

Even when you nose-in hard like madison the rear still comes down quite a bit at the landing. Watch Robbie Madison's landing, he landed in a wheelie as well. I'm betting when Hodges says he made a mistake in the air it was not smashing the rear brake hard enough. Regardless, he still over jumped it and would have been a difficult landing to ride out of.

I highly doubt they would seek a fill in, that would be pretty disrespectful to Axell in my opinion.

A fill in rider? Who else wants to do this stunt? Alex Harvill already has the record, I think he's good. Ryan Capes? Robby Madison?

Too far? What if someone else is willing to do it? Maybe there is someone that wants that record. Hoping Axell recovers nicely

I drove by and seen the ramp and landing in person it’s so huge. Crazy to think he jumped it. I doubt in that short of notice they could get another rider but wouldn’t doubt it if Maddo volunteers but I think he’s coming off a injury also.

Robbie Madison has the world record (378.9ft).

Alex Harvill has the unofficial world record (425ft). He was set to make it official at a NASCAR event a couple years ago but got hurt before the event.

As for a replacement rider, not happening. No one just comes off the couch to attempt a 400 foot jump.

That's what I thought. I figure being in the air for that long just feels so unnatural. His muscle memory might take over and he thinks that he's closer to the ground than he actually is? That's a giant bummer though.
I agree -- super weird to loop out that far into a jump. Here's another theory - maybe as the bike was descending that front fender started acting as a wing and catching the air? When you think about the scale of it all -- the speed and how far he is going and the distance from the apex to the landing, it sort of seems possible that aerodynamics come into play?

I also wondered this I saw on his Snapchat that he had a smaller front fender maybe they were testing around with and the picture appears to be full size. He has no visor on his helmet...

We can only speculate but that is possible. Keeping nose down untill landing would been safer like Maddison did do. Least that works with RC cars on bigger jumps.

He said he made a mistake in the air. Honestly, I think he was just bracing for impact by lifting the front up a bit, and he lifted up too soon / too hard. Simple as that. We all do this when we over jump something naturally, as we are going to a flat landing instead of hitting the downside. It's just much harder to time that high up in the air going that fast, I think.

Wow, that was SO enormous. Watched it like five times in a row and that. is. ridiculous. Addicting to watch, really. He is flying like a bird.

How far was that? It looked as far as Robbie Madison's Vegas jump.

On reddit it said it wasn't even stretched close to full distance yet. Anyone know for sure. That doesn't look close to Madisons over 300 footer. That shit looked faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

This. Not worth it. The entertainment factor is nearly nothing compared to the chance for disaster.

The entertainment factor is the fact that they could die doing it. People watch because they are taking g such a huge chance and gambling with their lives.

On a lighter note, the bike didn't crash. Would have been hilarious if someone caught it before it fell over.

I am just guessing here, but I’ve jumped some reasonable sized jumps. Nothing like this (duh) and if you don’t land wide open, especially at the speeds Robbie and Axel are going for these huge hits, the bike will drag and swap super hard. You have to land wide open and obviously that makes the front end come up...

For sure, that dog with its smooth coat and good nature will heal his ankles right up. Amazing animals. Great with kids, too.
