Where will Savagty land in 2020?

Edited Date/Time 7/13/2019 5:39am
Joey Savagty is said to not be singed for 2020 yet. He is rumored to have the choice of HRC Honda 1year contract or JGR 2 year contract. Which will he choose?

If it were me, I’d choose HRC. Stable team, huge resources, and a chance that if I did well, they’d re-sign me or another team would sign me after a solid year.

JGR is a crapshoot.

Depends does he want to be a #2 rider or potentially the #1.....?

If he went with JGR he would be their #1 rider - at HRC he would be #2 rider.

Being top dog at JGR would be good for JS - but it also can bring on more pressure. But a 2 year contract is hard to pass up.

HRC is a top notch team and also would be good for JS but only a one year contract makes it a difficult decision.

Also - my be determined on money too. Who is offering more per year?

Either way i believe he will have a great 2020!

I think Hondas logic on doing a single year for Savagty is that if JMart or Sexton win the 2020 Supercross title they will have a 2021 450 ride open for JMart or Sexton. Honda doesn't want to lose either one of those guys. If Savagty knows this would that sway him towards JGR's 2 year contract.

Same money from Honda or JGR just 1 vs 2 year contract

I’d take JGR, cause if like you said he would only get the ride for a year and potentially the boot for another 250 guy coming up just like kawi then that is pointless. Security of a two year deal and if money is the same, that’s a no brainer.

I remember when Cooper Webb was a #2 guy at KTM.

JGR needs a capable dude that is willing to work and wants to do better each weekend. Joey would be an awesome pick.

Barcia when he was there was in a weird place and needed a change of scenery and a motivation boost. Reed is SX only and even then he only seems to “have it” on select weekends and we all know the whole Hill situation. Noren is a nice pick for outdoors since he is hungry and has speed but SX is questionable.

Would be hard to pass up a ride with the prestigious HRC team though. I doubt the paychecks would be the same. Honda would let him have a gear deal I’d assume, JGR you have to run what they have. I dunno. Will be cool to see some familiar faces on some new colors regardless.

Easy.....cooper Webb was a 3 time 250 champ, it was a great revival for him, but not totally shocking

Only the 250 guys have a team gear as far as I know. Scott is the only team 450 gear requirement. Reed is fox, Peick, fly, hill O’Neal. Pretty sure 450 guys can run whatever gear they want as long as they wear Scott goggles

True, but I think given Cooper’s 450 career up that point most people assumed he was another great 250 rider that couldn’t transition to the 450 and that Marvin was THE guy at KTM. I’m not bagging on Cooper, actually the opposite. Savatgy looked great at MEC as Kawi’s #2 guy, so I don’t think he should worry too much about being the #1 or #2 guy. Sign with the team he thinks gives him the greatest opportunity for success. I think I’d rather be a #2 guy getting top 5s every weekend than the #1 guy getting top 10s. With all that said, I still don’t know which team would be the better fit. Leaning toward HRC, but I would like to see JGR and Suzuki start getting in the mix. JGR are good people and the sport is better with them in it.

Totally agree with you, JGR seems to be a weird place for a lot of riders. Not to sure why?

Wonder about the possibility of JGR deal still being available after a year at HRC. I know it’d be a risk taking 1 year deal first. Always a chance for injuries, or not performing great, but man if he had a respectable year at Honda the JGR deal maybe even sweeter.

I’m assuming this statement is merely for the sake of the discussion as opposed to purported fact. Because i’d be more likely to believe you know the nuclear launch codes than the compensation details of any MX contract/offer...

As for the question, HRC all the way. JGR is where careers go to die. Even if it is a 1 year deal he’ll be much more likely to put in good results at HRC than JGR which will in turn provide him leverage to negotiate an even better deal at the end of 2020 whether that be an extension with HRC or another team.

In short, HRC= control your destiny. JGR= Good luck...

Fuck Honda but yeah, I'd pick Honda in all honesty. I root for JGR to do well but there have to be some issues there we aren't aware of. I'd take riding on a team with Kenny and showing what I'm capable of if I were in Joey's shoes. The kid can ride a 450 really, really well.

JS can beat Roczen if he had a bike without constant mechanical issues. Not sure iwhats going on at Kawi but every race his bike has mechanicals. Maybe his mechanic needs a new torque wrench.

Fair chance they're testing on Savatgy's bike at the moment, not straight out mechanicals.

They discussed it on Pulpmx saying the money from HRC and JGR is very close to each other.

He will go Honda. Better bike and Honda strives to stay relevant with the other manufactures. He's not going to want to ride a yellow dinosaur.
