Three jumps = triple.

Encapsulates Stewart's career: unparalleled skill coupled with momentary lapses of reason. His championship count would signal a tremendous career for any other rider. For James, the totals represent a significant under-achievement.

But no one was more entertaining or enthralling to watch. Edge-of-your-seat moments on nearly every lap, delivering mind-boggling speed or classic carnage. James brought "fun" back to racing after several years under RC's virtual dictatorship. He hung it out there like no one else, and for that we forgive whatever expectations the masses had for him.

That’s the best ever description of JS7 for those of us that saw it from the beginning.

If you guys that just got into this sport use "how many places to land", what do you call a single? A gazillion jump?
When did a tabletop become a double?

How many of these people go to a store and tell the cashier 3 bucks is 4 bucks. The 2 dollar bill is worth 3 because it fell out of my pocket and landed on the floor. That's an added place to land lady.

Arguing with people like you is like arguing with flat-earthers. No need to engage in a debate with people who don’t understand the basics of math and what three means. Landing points do not and never will define the number of objects there are to jump over. In this case, it’s three. Hence, it’s a triple.

Just remember, this wasn’t presented live so they could always add commentary after the race was over.

Full Disclosure: I don’t know when they did the commentary but I would bet there was at least one take 2 over the years.

Exactly. The third is called a tabletop jump, which is singular.

Nobody calls a tabletop jump a "tabletop jumps". You'd get laughed at for all time saying that.

It was live, period. Especially since it was a Vegas race, which have been live (as in zero delay) further back than this race.

As far as the 90s into early 2000s "tape delay" races... Still recorded live. Pretty sure the only corrections made had to do with transitions, like coming back from commercial if something wasn't cohesive enough. Example here: at 49:44

https://youtu.be/A0vkR8bGgMM

Also, here's a good article. Within it there's a pic of a column Bailey wrote years ago about his broadcasting days... Talks about being nervous when they first went live in '94. Hard to read though because it's low res (couldn't find original column):

That was one of the sadder James Stewart crashes. Bummed me out at the time and still today!

I've been in Camp Quad for a long time to describe that style jump, mostly because we don't have another word to describe it. It's not a triple, because you can land on the tabletop...

So, I propose: "triple-on" and "triple-over."

Are you high? The title of the thread was ‘no one was more badass on a 125’. When McGrath was on Team Peak he dominated. Stew didn’t even win the title in his rookie year, Preston did. And no I’m not new, I watched those races live when I was a kid, and haven’t missed one Anahiem/ LA since I was 10. Also, McGrath is the only guy to win a 250 (450) title in his rookie year.

Dungey won the 450 SX and MX title in his rookie year (2010).

It's a triple table top. It's not a quad because there aren't 3 places to come up short and eat crap.

Whatever you call it, it's bad ass!

Hell Emig was more of a badass than MC on a 125 if you consider both indoors and out.

JS7 is a fav. so I have to go with him.

Cool back when The Bomber (yup, getting up there) signed a 3 year contract for $1,000,000.
That was insane in the day. He lived up to his end.

dungey won 450 in his rookie year because stewart and reed collided and had to heal and rv broke his leg
mcgrath won 250 (2stroke) in his rookie year because all late 80's/ early 90's legends retired or injured that exact year
either way 2 great riders there but js was on another level. at least until bubba's world...
anyone who cant see that dont know mx or hate the guy for whatever reason, so he bring statistics, cause the title says badass not consistent or rookie champ or multichampion!
