Not that black or white. But he did control and was responsible for it, it's impossible to say anything else with all info that has come out.

Just listened to Savagy, whole season destroyed from front end wash outs from decisions team made, it was pretty clear that bike was the issue but he said he did not want to hang anyone out (but those issues was 100% out of his control).

It is enough one thing is blocked to screw up a bike or its progress.

I was just with a team for a day testing factory suspension for a top 5 rider. Far from everything he wanted could be accomplished, because of decisions in suspension philosophy from senior people that has been at the top themselves 20y ago.
What does Savatgy's setup have to do with Mike Williamson? Did Savatgy bypass his own mechanic, crew chief and team manager and seek out Tomac's crew chief for setup advice?

I was thinking the same. Maybe the guy has a family now and got a better paying job? Exactly like he said. "No way....Read between the lines...Don't be so gullible..." I guess it's hard for passionate fans to understand people growing up and wanting stability. A 24/7 job is bullshit once you have kids. I don't care how much you make or how much you love it. If it's not bullshit, you have no business starting a family.

Serious question here, what kind of money could one expect to make as a "crew chief" for a factory team? Not asking specifically what he made, just in general. Is it chump change, low six figures, quarter mil? Do win bonuses carry over to the "crew chief"? Time and a half for all that overtime? Health insurance? 3, 4, 6 weeks paid vacation? Company car? Business class for all those flights?

Some of Vitals finest sure are having a field day shitting on him, not to mention that "journalist" guy who likes to interview himself. That job must pay pretty killer.

I believe he was a Kawasaki employee and not an independent contractor like a mechanic would be. Not sure about the rest though.

Thanks Guy B for that podcast. Reading between the lines of what was said about bike setup and testing, one can only conclude that Eli definitely struggles with it. And when the bike is off, he is off. Mike wasn't going to slag him, but the way Guy B asked the questions, and the way Mike answered it was pretty obvious.

Seems like Eli could really use a dose of Aldon for the mental gains. Look at Dungey, he was a head case about the bike until he got with Aldon.
To be honest Dungey got better when the 2016 gen bike came out. The older bike was bad enough for Roczen to win a championship and still leave.

He was Tomac's crew chief, he has to bear some of the responsibility for proper bike setup. Sounds like Eli is not a very good testing or development rider making Mike's former job even more important.

Roczen got the biggest salary in the sport with a bike/team that has proven itself in the past. He left suzuki as well after a championship. Sometimes you have to follow the money especially with how short of careers that they riders have.

Yeah, and? What does the job pay is all I asked.

I guess I should also ask if it pays more when you have a rider who sucks at giving feedback? Being a mind reader should require additional pay and perks.

Proven? What has Honda proven in the modern era of 4-strokes?

He went to Honda because they are desperate to win and threw huge money at him in hopes of winning a title.

If KTM would have let Roczen test ride the 16 bike I think he would have stayed.

It has everything to do with the riders are far from in full control over what they can do with, and run on a bike.

The rider shouldn't be in full control of changes/settings, a lot of fast riders don't know wtf they are doing in regards to setup.

And if you believe GL on the latest Whiskey Throttle Show (Button episode), then Roczen has been sniffing around KTM wanting to go back!

Honestly, the older gen KTM that Kenny raced in 2014....he had 8 podiums and won 2 rounds of SX that season. And then was pretty good outdoors on it.

They should be able to change what is needed to make them comfortable. Otherwise you end up like Eli and Joey ä.

Will be interesting to see Tomac outdoors if the bike is as behind as it was originally in sx.

Mechanics knowing far better than the rider reminds of this Eric Geboers story;

"I got in many conflicts with the engine engineers at first. They wanted more compression and bigger carburetors for maximum power output, but this produced uncontrollable power. In theory it looked like the way to go. In reality on the racetrack it resulted in slower lap times.
Just before the Finnish Grand Prix, I suggested we do a blind test. I said," Build me three bikes and don't tell me what is on each bike. I will ride all three bikes during practice and I will tell you which bike has the smaller carburetor and low compression"

OTOH, traveling non stop must get pretty tiresome, especially if you have any desire for a family. Eg: Roger D obviously loves MX, but think of what he has given up in his personal life to achieve those MX dreams.

And if the rider can't communicate that to the team? After 77 shock changes?

Pro riders that can't say something is wrong in the way a bike feel or behave is rare. They can be better or worse, but not that bad.

Good mechanic or suspension guy will figure out what is wrong based on asking relevant questions so you can pin point the issue.

The more particular a rider is about setup, the better he is at knowing where to look for the issue.

Sometime it is of course difficult to get a bike to where it should be no matter what resources. Stewie and Reed or Webb on Yamaha for example.

Newmann, I believe it was RV who made the 77 shock changes in a season. But home schooling does not seem to have hurt either riders bank accounts.

Wasn't the 77 shock changes RV? And he also said he went through something like 50 fork changes.

That's odd, Vital told me they weren't allowed to test/change anything at Kawi

Oh, I know that was RV on the shock stuff but Williamson said he was pretty good to work with. Just imagine the ones who weren't good to work with!

Let's not act like this was some conspiracy theory born on Vital, I may be mistaken but I believe the idea that they weren't allowed to change anything came directly from one of the riders who have been on the team.
