ATL SX no more?

I heard from some pretty reliable sources at Club MX that ATL will be replaced with Charlotte next year. I know that Feld was not happy with the new MB Dome overall, and were considering dropping them, but didnt think there was much to it.

That’s going to bum out the local “freelance wealth redistributors”.

Bummer. ATL SX is good.

Huge market to abandon. Weird.

Woah. That would be crazy if they dropped Atlanta. I live here and it’s a big market. Has to be a very good reason to do so in a brand new very nice dome. Might even get to watch a race with the dome open also which would be awesome.

I don't see it happening, maybe a venue change but to bounce out of Atlanta seems like a bad move.

Seems like a good idea to abandon it since bikes get stolen there every year.

I went when at Memorial Stadium and the speedway. I always thought that the speedway rivaled Daytona. I hope its true, as I go to ATL every year, but live near Charlotte. Would be happy to not have to deal with all the beggars and scam artists downtown Atlanta.

It would be more because the new stadium is super expensive to rent, not that they weren't happy with the new stadium. The new stadium is excellent.

Vehicles were a major issue this year. Not one "non-Mercedes" passenger vehicle was allowed on display...no Toyotas, no Jeep (RMATVMC-KTM's), nothing....if it wasn't a MB, had to be removed from property

People were super pissed and it was a blind side

They didn’t have near enough Stadoum staff members at ATL this year.. lines were huge and only like 2 gates were open to get in and out..

I live in Charlotte. As much as I would love to have Supercross back in CLT I don’t know where they could hold it. The Panthers stadium is a no-go, as they have natural turf and protecting it seems to be more important than renting out the stadium. They’ve only held two concerts and a handful of soccer games there in 25 years because they won’t bring in anything that could damage the grass. Plus, the stadium is in center city with nowhere to pit. We have a baseball stadium but it’s minor league and doesn’t have enough seating for SX crowds- also, there’s the same issue of the stadium being in center city with nowhere to pit. The other option would be Lowe’s Motor Speedway but I can’t imagine Feld adding another race/track similar to Daytona- although it would be awesome to add more track variations to the circuit.

Z-MAX like the orginal plan for MXGP would be cool.

Its great they are changing and adding new venues. Allows for people in other cities to attend an event. Unfortunately a round will never come to my city lol.

I live in Charlotte too.. Keep in mind that the Panthers have a new owner, David Tepper, who is has a much different mentality than Jerry Richardson.

This article from a couple months ago makes it pretty clear that they want to do more with the stadium (though time will tell if Supercross is a viable option) https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article224757025.html

The pits would still be an issue though. Fingers crossed we do get sx here though.

It was awesome at the speedway, track was awesome. Watch some videos on youtube, pits were, well, in the pit area. It was a perfect setup in my opinion.

They would have to move the schedule around, having the race in CLT that time of year with no roof wouldn’t be good

More like MB Dome isn’t happy with monster trucks and dirt bikes being in their facility.

I’m 40 min from CLT. Went to the races at Memorial Stadium and the speedway. CMS would be great if the weather held out. Used to go to ATL but got tired of dealing with all the “extra stuff” that you have to deal with in downtown ATL several years ago. I drive twice as far to go to Daytona (and have been since the mid ‘70s) but have a much better time. I would think that Briton and Marcus Smith would love to have SX at the speedway. First class facility.

They should just move it to the Atlanta Motor Speedway and build the track on the infield similar to Daytona.
