He is not the color commentator, he is the analyst and not a good one unfortunately.

Ok. That’s why they introduce themselves as “Ralph sheheen joined tonight by supercross champion Ricky Carmichael”

EDIT- I thought he was a color commentator...still confused

I've never really listened that much to any of them, I think there are other people they could have in the booth that would be better but he is The GOAT. But what ever reason this year there have been a ton of unanswered crow gasps/cheers. I don't know if it's a director problem or what but in the past when you hear that something just happened they were usually on it right away, not so much this year.

The analyst is the expert and Ricky was hired to be that. The color commentator is there to raise excitement and keeps fans engaged while the analyst provides details. Regardless, Ricky is terrible regardless of the title.

Daniel Blair would CRUSH IT in the booth. Why Feld feels the need to force feed Ricky down our throats in a role he clearly is not cut out for is beyond me.

I remember a while ago when DB mentioned on his podcast that his ultimate dream job goal in life is to be in some kind of commentator role in the NFL. At the time, I thought that sounded like some far fetched boyhood dream. Now that I've seen/heard how well poised he is behind the mic and how solid his work ethic is - I 100% believe he can work his way there someday..

I think he tries to hard, he should take it down a notch and he’ll be fine eventually.

Complete opposite of Ricky. DB comes off confident, articulate, and natural.

Daniel should be in the booth and Ricky should be on the track dropping 2 lines of speech at a time that he has thought about beforehand

But he knows nothing about the sport or motorsports in general He simply is clueless past 2004 for motocross/SX.

They get these guys for pennies on the dollar, otherwise they would be like other sports and have guys like Bailey, RJ, etc. But they gotta pay em. Paying for a room, flight, and free monster and snacks isn't getting paid.

This sport won't. We can't even keep someone like Jenny Taft, or anyone else.

They need guys in the Emig, MC, JBone, era at the minimum.

The problem is Ralph is so in tune with EVERY Motorsport out there, he can talk around these guys and appeal to a broader audience, and thats who they are talking to........the average watcher.

The guy sitting next to him in the booth is proof of that.

Ralph is complete garbage.

Ricky isn’t good but the bigger issue is that these shows are awfully produced

I don't understand why people get so bent out of shape over this.

The so called poor commentary is blown out of proportion no matter who is in the booth.

It's because Art Eckum & Bailey were awesome at it and Ralph (and no matter who he's partnered with) has been dogshit in contrast.

As I said.

Blown out of proportion.

He could be better... and with more time in the booth he probably will be. He's not as bad as people make out though.

I think Jason Weigandt or Daniel Blair would be great.

Someone post up a vid from Jeff’s first full season of announcing. Go ahead and pick the best one you can find so we can compare. Driven people improve.

Ya, he's pretty bad to the point I mute the race sometimes...especially when he won't just shut up for a minute.
Here's my take, that position should require X-amount of time behind the mike and that you're proven a good speaker.
No one really cares who's in that chair as long as their good. If you watch some of the old SX or MX utube vids...many are hosted by unknowns that were great speakers.
RC's biggest flaw is he can't speak for shit, just because he's the goat that doesn't make him the goat for commentating.
If RC had any balls he'd take himself out and spend a year full on crafting that skill.
School, radio, coaching, HS sporting events, come back in a year ready to kick ass instead of (now) embarrassing himself.
It would be awesome if the network split it up, RC a couple races, Fro a couple, Wege a couple, Matthes a couple, maybe GL a couple, ping do a couple...that would give some diverse viewpoints, add some different flavor to the booth and keep things really interesting.

Honestly I prefer him over Jeff, not as well spoken yet not that Jeff was anyway but his racecraft and knowledge is far far superior, he rarely gets things wrong on what's happening on the track compared to Jeff.

I don't mind of he goes quite you don't have to talk every second of the race.

I like the idea of putting different people in their. Rotate them throughout the season. Of those who haven't done any announcing, I think Ping could do a good job. I also think Matthes could do a good job. Both are well spoken and very knowledgeable.

It’s a joke unfortunately.
I lost track of all the times I was left shaking my head...
I knew Ferrandis had a shot at winning, he just needed a start. However in the pre race report Ricky’s analysis for 250 race was “Adam wants to wrap up this title and take on Forkner in Vegas, that’s what it’s all about!!”
Seriously??
Also Josh Grant crashing out of LCQ- He can’t be too hard on himself Ralph bla bla bla.. um yeah Ricky he actually should be- He stalled it in the whoops whilst in a qualifying position and then he crashed in the whoops going for it when he still had 2 laps to go and would of easily made a pass elsewhere...
The 250 LCQ where Jorgensen got docked- 100% bad call ?? Was it Ricky, are you sure.. I know people are divided on this but usually when a rider gasses it off track it’s not a good outcome.
Not knowing the (current) rules around jumping on Red Cross flag?? It’s kinda your job to be able to reference those things for the viewers?
Lucky Daniel Blair was on hand to provide some insight on the different jump options etc. he does a great job.
I think Ricky could be better but something’s missing at the moment- they need to figure it out..
