It looks like those have been run since they came out about 10+ years ago though haha, anything will dry rot eventually!

i've considered myself a Gaerne guy for the last 5 years or so but the almighty dollar has turned me into a traitor...

bought these Tech 10's on ebay for $265, guess we'll see how great of shape they're in next week when they're delivered

ps... been running red boots for about 10 years now, the color had a VERY big impact on which boot i went with lol

I've run both over the years, Astars for years when I started out. old style tech 6's were longest lasting boot I've ever seen. My father, brother, and I all ran one pair of them, they've been in use on and off for about 10 years, and the sole is still near perfect, uppers don't have much support left, but Completely intact. Had tech 10's, loved the feel of them, so light and supportive...but the sole disintegrated after about 3 months. Gaerne sg 10's, not overly supportive from the beginning, but lasted a decent amount of time, maybe 2 seasons. Sg 12's, very light, more supportive than the sg 10, not nearly as much as the tech 10 though. Sole also fell apart very quickly, maybe 5-6 months. Currently I'm using a pair of the Tech 8 "lights", which aren't bad, sole is lasting well, very supportive, although still a hair off the tech 10 in that department, and they are comfortable. Probably going to try the sidi crossfire 2's after these, they look promising! Although the absolute best boot I have ever ran, was one of the older Tech 8 Generations, the ones from like '06-'07. Loved them, if I could find some now, I'd buy them over anything else!
I look at new boots several times a year, and would love to have a reason to get new ones. I have older Astars Tech 8s that fit great and are holding up well. They show very little signs of wear despite being over 10 years old! Why get what you don't need.

I have been an Alpinestars guy for 27 years. Owned many pairs and wouldn't have wanted to change but the quality has gone down as well as customer service. I just got off the phone w them after 2 days of a run around trying to get help w rider support.
I have a new pair of Tech 7's that have defective buckles. So I have to send them back and in the mean time I need another pair. I was trying to find the correct person to send a resume to so I could try for a discount on my 2nd pair. A yes or no was all I was looking for. The lady was so rude it was alarming...I never got the correct info just a feeling of taking my business elsewhere.
So...I am going for Gaerne...I keep hearing good things about them.
I wear Tech 7"s cause they fit my feet good. Who has used both? Which model Gaerne's am I looking for...SG10"s?
Thanks for the help.

No world champ ever broke his foot in Fly Mavericks. I think I'll buy those.

I've gone to Sidi Crossfires. Had a set of original Tech8's from about 2002-2007 which were awesome. Tech7's were ok but heavy and no where near as well built as the old skool tech 8's. Now using Sidi Crossfires and they are miles ahead of the Tech7's. Durability, comfort & especially water resistance - probably not an issue in USA but riding enduro in the UK winter this is a big plus!

The new Acerbis X Rock is worth a look, apparently an ex-employee / designer of Gaerne designed them. They look like a copy of SG12 and seen a few good reviews & lamost 1/2 price of SG12's in UK.

I really like the older sg12s just before this new model came out . The new ones feel bulkier than before . I personally know of 4 people including me who had ankle injuries with the new sg12s . I tried the tech 7s but I got a great deal on some 19 tech 10s so I'll give them a try

Gaerne SG 12. When sole wears out, you can replace it ($35 for new soles). Had same pair for 3 years now and ride every weekend.

I have a pair of Tech 7's. Right out of the box they were super comfy and fairly supportive for a mid line boot. My previous Tech 8's were a great boot, but they started to grenade after 5 years. No complaints with Alpinestar boots here.

Gaerne. I got my first pair of SG10s in 2007, and I'm still wearing them. To the guy who said his soles wore out fast, he must've had lemons, mine show no signs of wearing out anytime soon. I did finally lose a buckle strap, so I need to call them to see if I can get a replacement.
My Gaerne soles last 20 hours. Just like every other boot. Not everybody puts the same demands on their equipment.

Maybe they'd have lasted longer if single ounce of effort was put into caring for them.

Your Tech 7's aren't designed to compete with SG12.

I bought a year ago some brand new left over sg 11's after wearing astar tech 8's for years.

They were okay but after my 8th ride in them I bought another set of tech 8's. Biggest complaint I had was the sg 11's transferred impacts to my ankles i never felt with the tech 8's. Plus my works connection frame gaurds was tearing into the rubber ankle section by the pivot.

Personally, tech 10’s have saved my ankles so many times it’s not funny. I love them. Have tried the “big 4” and tech 7’s. Crossfire’s were nice, sg12’s felt big, instincts felt small. Just my 2 cents. Honestly, I buy nice used boots typically. I prefer to let someone else feel the retail sting.
