Hi all,
Firstly i just want to say that i dont want to start a war between 2t and 4t. I currently have a 2017 YZ250 2t which i bought in December last year and for a 16 year old i thought that buying it myself with money id worked for was a big achievement for me, it has all carbon fibre parts and alot of goodies on it. Before anyone says anything ive been riding bikes all my life and they get maintained to the highest possible degree by myself as all the work is done by me weather its a top end rebuild etc. My question to you lot is that when i start college after my GCSE's this September im thinking of financing a YZ250F as ive been told 4t are now alot more competitive than the 2t. I mainly race hare scrambles as an *A class rider and the occasional MX race but have noticed most of the bikes are 4t in motocross nowadays. Ill be keeping my YZ250 2t no matter what but was wondering if a YZ250F would be a good move for MX.
Any advice or comments would be appreciated,
Regards,
Rob

Youre just going into college and want to finance a $8,000 toy? that 2 stroke is going to be perfectly fine and cheaper to maintain and rebuild. Youre not going to be more competitive on a 250f. Throw a flywheel weight on the yz you got and it will make it easier to ride. Use the $8000 to pay for school. Of all the situations there could be to finance a motorcycle, this one is pretty bad.

Wasnt aware you were in the UK. I still dont like the idea of a kid in college financing toys like that regardless if its “free”. Im just guessing.. but working a part time job and paying $100 a month doesnt add up when you already have a paid for bike thats perfectly fine to ride.
Im in Oz. A 250f will set you back about 12k. You borrow 12K and after a few years, you still owe 8K, but your bikes worth 6K and you will end up paying 15K with interest.
Stick with your 2T 250 and enjoy it. If it wears you out.. train harder and sort the suspension. Its a competitive bike. Have a look at Ryan Villapoto last year riding a YZ125... He screams on that thing.

Its £9k a year tuition plus you living costs, my daughter is in the hole for £40k for her 3 years which she has to pay back plus interest, and they sell on the debt and ramp up the loan,
Personally i would nail down a good used 250F so you have a bike for each, but for me i would run the 2t.. we have a 250f and a 300 2T , and i ride the 300 , the 250f just makes noise and doesnt go .

The irony of this statement is that you finance something because you can't afford it. I get it though, I was young once. I financed my first race bike in my early 20's and regretted it for the next three years.
You are a sharp young man it sounds like. Best of luck in school!
Payments suck.
