I would consider that pretty successful and the whole Alessi Family is all about Moto.

I remember one of his first 450 outdoor races at Steel City- He was like 115 lbs or something.. If I recall, didn't he get 4th one of the motos if not 4th overall?? Heck, McGrath was in that one too!

The one year on the Suzuki I think maybe 2011 or 2012, if he wouldn't have got hurt that was his title, he was smoking everyone the first 2 rounds.

He raced in the JS RC CR RV KDUB etc era
The crash that left him unconscious and run over may have been a very big deal for his career looking back

A lot of people like to bag on MA but the dude is a phenomenal dirt bike racer. Maybe he didn't accomplish the things he'd hoped to but his goals were lofty. He aimed high and just missed. That still earned him a great career and shouldn't skew the perspective if how good he is.

This is great news for Mike. To me , he seems like a dude that isn't out there to just collect a paycheck. He seems to just love racing bikes , and can still make a descent living at it , which is cool to see. Congrat's Mike , and good luck this season!

I wasn't really that big of a fan, but I do miss seeing him race in the US. The Alessi's brought excitement to the sport, that's for sure.

He will do amazing if he brings his A-game. It seemed like he hadn't been trying his hardest on the Kawi.

So awesome. My all time favorite rider and also cool that I just bought that same gear in the black and white color way.

Something about MA800 on a Honda just seems right. Best of luck this summer, Mikey!

If all the “older riders” I think he would do very well at off-road. I think he just likes riding his dirt bike and would fine doing that for 3 hours.

He was very fast, but when pressured he turned to dirty moves. In supercross he used dirty riding to overcome his lack of speed especially in the whoops.

The title of this thread is about MA800 joining a new team...but not a single mention about the team in the body of the post.Huh

An old boss of mine once had a saying:
"Aim for the stars and you might hit the moon. Aim for the moon and you'll hit the back fence. Aim for the back fence and you're sucking sewer water."

Laughing Laughing Laughing

Mike Alessi aimed for the stars. I'd say he got one or two.
Good luck in 2019, Mike!

he won a lot which i would argue isnt the same as being faster. Mike had, essentially a factory honda cr85, while the team green bikes were a level below as far as equipment. Mike also was very strong at holeshots and in a 5 lap race, if you get a 10th place start, and the guy who gets out from puts down a lot of room in between that 5 laps just isnt going to allow you to catch up.

Now in a 30 min moto, when you have 12-15 laps....

Ryan also, in having to work harder to win, and work through the pack, developed skills that, when given more time to get up front he can cut through the pack and pass for the win. Go watch 2009 Glen Helen, it was what always happened in amatuers except they had 30 min instead of 5 laps. Mike holeshot, had a sizeable lead and villopoto caught him late in the race to pass for the win

Yea , RV was on bad ass PC Kawasaki and Mike on that POS no link KTM . I thin that was the biggest mistake they took the KTM ride. Mike last his confidence and it was hard to bring it back. Just watch some of the old races and u can tell that the KTM was not working for Mike . RV was like on pillows and Mike was getting pounded like crazy.

He could never ride whoops very well (compared to the best in the world)- that really affected his SX career.
He podiumed in his second 450 outdoor race at Steel City in 2004, behind RC and K-Dub.

Word from someone that worked with Mike in the past, Mike did everything opposite of everyone else when it came to bike setup. When on Suzuki with Chad, whatever Chad did to the bike and said fixed the issues, Mike went the opposite way and usually the wrong way.
