Was hoping for an open end on this thread title and then continue in the first comment.

I use to be in the Santa Barbara area, I'm now in Vegas where housing, gas, food, etc. is much cheaper..... Plus, I drove to A1 a few weeks ago and got there quicker than when I lived Santa Barbara. A drive from Nocal to Socal, can take forever, pack a lunch and a dinner. LOL

I always get a good laugh out of negative responses that are rooted entirely in politics. God help anyone who chooses where they live based on their party loyalty.

Anyway, I've lived here my whole life and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. Although, depending on job opportunities, etc, I'm open for anything.

I'm going riding this weekend, what's everyone else doing? Freezing to death? Wink

I love living in CA. Been here 10 years now.

I shoot guns off my back porch, ride epic offroad trails that surround my house, have well maintained roads (thanks taxes) perfect for canyon carving on my sport bike, explore the thousands of acres of well maintained state parks (thanks again taxes), chill on the miles of beautiful beaches, hit up the fluffy pow of Mammoth, creep around the abandoned gold mining towns in the Sierras, MTB and hike scenery that makes your jaw drop. There is always something kickass to check out with huge events happening all over. US Open of Surfing, Comic Con, Coachcella, SX, MX Nationals, MTB races, Marathons, etc etc etc. You can go from the crowded city to the most desolate and alone area you can imagine in less than 2 hours.

CA is rad.

I'm here on vacation just an hour north of San Fransisco riding mountain bikes... This place is amazing. Our flight to Chicago got cancelled due to record cold and snow, so we got a few extra days. I'm not mad about it

Let's see, Dianne Feinstein, Kamala Harris, and maybe scariest of all Gavin Newsome. If you think politics don't matter, they do. These people are destroying what maybe the best state we have, I love Cali, but if you think it's spendy now just wait, it's going to get WAY worse and I doubt the three stooges are into dirt bikes. I'll go to ocotillo every chance I get and spend my cash but there will come a day when the state prices everyone out but the few who don't care. Almost everything is more in California, gas, food, booze, etc etc. If I could live there I'd be worried. Everything I like the government hates, basically anything fun is banned except for a very few places. Ocotillo is still old California as is Glamis, I see a few long term guys saying they still love it but they're in the minority. There's a reason Texas is turning blue, California businesses and people are fleeing, and that's the proper term, fleeing.... Sorry if I offended, just my take

Fleeing, really, you're incorrect or misinformed. Housing and sprawl are happening state wide in California. Some may be fleeing but there are people or immigrants who take their place in droves. Yes, our state Government is horrible and that brings other problems. Housing and business is definitely pricey. Which drives some to relocate away from here. But areas are putting large scale apartment complexes up as fast as they can build them to house people that cannot afford homes. But then people buy those homes and it all evens out. Traffic is getting worse and worse, empty land is disappearing by sprawl or the Gov taking them away to protect. Yes there are things to bitch and complain about. But overall living here is still pretty nice. Tons of opportunity to pretty much do anything you want and to enjoy life and our weather that other states cannot provide. Sometimes you have to pay for that luxury and convenience.

Here’s the latest annual U.S. Department of Health and Human Services report to Congress on TANF and SSP [welfare] recipients, using the latest figures:

U.S.******4,170,107 recipients

CA*******1,803,873 recipients

https://www.acf.hhs.gov/ofa/resource/twelfth-report-to-congress page 20

In other words, CA — with 12% of the nation’s population — has an appalling 43.3% of our nation’s needy that require taxpayer assistance. Last time I checked a few years ago, CA had not quite 1/3 of these welfare recipients. As far as I know, no CA press has reported this increase to 43+%.

THE STUNNING BOTTOM LINE: California has 5.6 TIMES the average percentage of welfare recipients found in the other 49 states.

- California has the highest state income taxes in the country.

- Housing prices are through the roof.

- Traffic is brutal - USA Today claims that Los Angeles has the worst traffic in the world.

- California is consistently ranked as one of the worst states for business in the country, and many major employers have chosen to expand or relocate to other states.

Unless you are coming with a healthy savings. Come visit first, ask lots of questions, hangout in the places you are considering and find out what a job you are seeking pays. You’ll be surprised that housing is 3 to 4 times what it is most everywhere else but the pay is the same for what you currently make. Basically, to live the same life you live now you have to come here with money. Iwas fortunate and I am not leaving. Most people that I know from here want to leave but stay close b/c of the amount of things to do and most say they would choose A neighboring state just over the stateline. Good luck! Its a beautiful place to live.

California is also really good at ranking dead last when it comes to quality of life.

"Quality of Life" on that report is just a combined metric for pollution and voter turnout, which is a really strange category. Texas is right behind Cal in that category as the worst.

For overall "Best State" in that same silly list-icle California finished 31. Texas finished 36.

There are so many different Californias to choose from, just in Norcal.

The housing cost issue in the major cities on the coast is real. Every state has its crappy features.

If politics (left or right) gives you a red ass, then for sure live where you get to hear what you want from your leaders.

Freezing? No. Sitting here in Texas in my 5,100SF house with 20,000SF lot that I bought brand new in 2015 for $475K, playing with my AK47 and ordering ammo and more 30 round magazines off the internet.

Well said...The big issue with Southern CA is traffic. Even the weekends are no longer safe. If you can afford to live close to work or in a more rural area, all is good. If you have to commute, it isn't that great. You end up having no time other than weekends. I know plenty of people who wake up, shower, commute, work, commute, dinner, sleep and repeat. They have but an hour or so of free time each evening. Having done it myself in the past, it is no way to live and sure isn't worth it to have a bigger house that you barely see.

People crack me up...they act like California is on another planet!

Fuck you all ?
All I know is my sister is freezing her ass off in -12 degree temps today and I’m sitting here overlooking the ocean at moonlight beach and eating the best damn tacos on the face of the earth, in a t shirt! Out for a Harley ride today that will take me from the coast to beautiful backroads with tress overhanging the roadway, mountains and pine trees when I head up to Palomar. All this in a 6-7 hour day.

Despite the Stste being run by a bunch of idiots all I know is I love it....taxes, Hell yeah but I’ll jiat screw them somewhere else to make up for it. Let’s face it, there r shit holes in most states but you will not find better scenery anywhere in the world. Get the hell out of the shithole freeway system where all the moto dudes hang out and go see the real state and then you will realize why it’s expensive here. You get what you pay for

Yeah, you get what you pay for. I don't like paying for all the free shit given to the illegal aliens who are welcomed with open arms. Sanctuary state in which it's illegal for businesses to cooperate with ICE. Homeless US citizens live in squalor amid shit, piss and discarded hypodermic needles while the illegals are coddled and fed off the government teat. What a fucking joke.
