Dement was a force to be reckoned with. Being from Texas and watching him ride so fast I thought his wheels would explode. He beat Pedro Gonzalez on an 80 and Pedro was on a 250 and Pedro went on to win a 125 SX for pro circuit

Cant say Alessi/RV without drawing the Ciaciarulo/Webb comparisons. Only the latter without injuries doesnt seem that itd be anywhere near as lopsided as Alessi/RV.

Holland.
Though the fastest I ever saw an 80 ridden was by Danny Storbeck at Lake Whitney.

Fastest 100 rider ever- Ron Lechein

Back in '05. There was a kid on a RM 85 here in Holland with the name Roczen.
About 10 years old at that time and was racing a bigwheels 85 (supermini). With that pink UFO gear on.

He was killing his class that day against guys with the age of 14/15 , never saw someone riding the 85 so fast as he did , even not till today.

To bad Herlings rode the 85cc small wheels class in 2005.

Healy in 84 at Ponca. Suzuki minis were still very small then, and he had hit a growing spell that summer. He flicked that thing around like a bicycle, never letting off the gas, smooth as silk. At one point during the week, on his 105, he had posted fast lap of the day. So much fun to watch

Justin Buckelew vs Sean Hamblin on 80's were the best battles to watch when I was growing up

Was lucky enough to see Paul Denis ride here in the UK , alomg with Larry Ward... Denis was run hard by Mark Banks, and while he won , he didnt have it all his own way.... Ward was on an 80 Suzuki and he just killed it , nobody rode like that back then.

As already mentioned ,

Paul Denis came over for the schoolboy international at Trentham Gardens in the early 80,s .

The US team was Denis , Ward , Dick Bellora and Hank Moree from memory

Didn,t Braband have something to do with Bel Ray oils in the UK
It was 1983 @ Trentham Gardens, Paul Dennis & Dick Bellora were mega fast, I was in the same race class as Paul Dennis 125cc & got on quite well with him, he gave my mate his Griffon race pants afterwards & he still has them.

I have some photos from that international schoolboy race somewhere will try to dig them out, they were massive line ups & red hot sunshine all that weekend.

Any how back on track - Paul Dennis & Dick Bellora as fastest for me, where did they both end up?

The only guys who have impressed me since with so much raw speed at such a young age is Robbie Herring, Mike Alessi & Jeffery Herlings

People tend to only remember Storbeck for landing on RJ, but that kid was an animal on mini bikes.

I watched Mike Craig absolutely lay wood to the 80 expert class at Barona Oaks back in about '83. I didn't think it was possible to ride that fast until I aw him do it.

Scott Burnworth on a R&D prepared RM 80 Stock, Mod or 105 was just about untouchable. He pretty much picked up where Wardy and Myerscough left off. R&D minis were so fast they were dangerous. A 77/78 R&D RM 80 massaged out to a 105 would give most 125's fits. As a whole, I think the late 70's early 80's R&D Racing Crew fielded the most dominant group of bikes and riders that Minicycle Racing has ever seen!

Myerscough, Ward (would have won more if his XR75 was allowed to be 150cc like today 😀), Kehoe and Holland in that order. Special mention to Flying Mike Brown.

One kid that never won much but should of was Chuck Carothers. He did things on a 80 ( or any bike he rode) that was completely nuts.

The shots of Holland and Kehoe were taken by my dad. I finished 3rd behind these guys in the '79 ROC, by about a half a lap. So I had a good view of how fast they were for 2 corners.

Two riders whose pro careers didnt pan out:
Brian Myerscough. He was the first kid I heard all the industry picking for Pro success
John Kitsch. He dominated all 3 motos of the Kawasaki ROC in a most
stacked field that included future champions Jeff Emig, Brian Swink and Steve Lamson.

Can we talk about your avatar?
Woohoo

Hey, if you raced against anybody in your post, I'll change mine (not that I actually raced any of them or had any remote chance of that).

I remember seeing James at Muddy Creek a few times and Lorettas. There was never anyone even close to him, he flat out smoked everybody. Never got a chance to see many others, but i know it was incredible watching him race on 80s. I remember one year at the KRC at Muddy Creek he had about half a track lead on 2nd place.

It is my generation too and I was dreaming of his 105 yz.

I don't remember who built it, what kit it was, and I also don't remember the brand that was producing in the same era the separate clutch cover/carter (which has been upgraded a few years by yamaha).

Unfortunately when i came back from abroad i didn't have that much space and one day i decided to get ride of all my mx & car magazines/catalogs (bad idea...), so if anyone has a picture people please post, it would be cool to see how cool that bike was.

I’m pretty sure it was an R & D YZ Supermini.

Not the Supermini but you can see where it’s says R & D on the Fork Guard.

Jett Reynolds is by far the most dominant mini rider to date and he hasn't even raced big bikes yet!

Awesome, thanks to you both.

In my memory i think i was remembering the 95 that got a nice article or page in mxa or dirt birt rider, pretty nice bike, not dmc level in term of mods but still very cool, and i like the 96 as i had one too Smile
