Think about this before pounding a red bull after a moto.

"Part of the concern is that while Red Bull is marketed as a healthful drink, it doesn’t do anything to nourish the body or replenish it after physical exertion. In fact, because of the drink’s high caffeine content, it can be dehydrating. For a person engaged in heavy physical activity, adding Red Bull can be a lethal mixture. A small number of people have died from heart failure after combining Red Bull with physical exertion and, while no direct causation has been attributed to Red Bull, the dehydrating effect of the drink combined with exercise has been mooted as a major strain on the heart."

One day the feds are going to start tightly regulating these drinks, killing off many of them, and then this industry will be in deep shit because they've become so dependent on their money.

Did everyone not already know this? Same shit thats been said over and over again and it still gets brought up like its something knew. Does anyone actually think its healthy?


And Fla, I think the only regulating that will be done are on the ones that are much stronger then others, ie; BooKoo, Cocaine, and Spike.
Also age restrictions will pop-up soon. I dont think the big companies, Rockstar, Monster, and RedBull are going anywhere.

I think there may be labeling issues at some point, but if the issue is too much sugar and caffeine, why not write about Starbucks and Kelloggs?

I think some of this drama stems from seeing kids swilling kegs of Rockstar and the carry over from "energy" supplements that contained some form of ephedrine. It'd be interesting to see the actual case studies of people who died from "heart failure" in the midst of exercise after drinking energy drinks.

Side bar, some sports physiologists have concluded that non-fat chocolate milk is an ideal source of glycogen to replenish your energy stores in the hour or so after strenuous exercise. Apparently it has the right balance of carbs and protein. So cop a chocolate milk and a banana between motos.

All above is spot on. Only thing I see is a surgeons general warning in the future. They will still sell it. It will still be as popular. I doubt the industry will suffer immediate ill effects. The rules placed upon them will be in baby steps just as they were on Cigarettes. Reminder, Camel and Coors used to sponsor the sport.

Exactly. Like I said earlier how long to it take the govt to regulate the tabocco industry,

They already have warning lables on them, they might just get one that is more stern. Also the advertising might get watched over closer and the claims will have to be proven. No huge or sudden shockwaves are going to come through

Actually, I have seen Red Bull commercials but I have never seen a Monster commercial. Aside from them throwing a lot of money into SX/MX, I don't remember any campaigns wherein they told the consumer how great it tasted. What Monster is doing is no different than what Camel, Coors Light, etc. did over the years.

To each his own, but we should be glad that we have title sponsors that are still willing to support the sport. I don't smoke, but I didn't rally against Camel when they were a title sponsor.

i think small steps have already been taken to stop their marketing to the youth. anyone tried to buy a set of kids gear branded with an energy drink? i.e. Monster O'neal gear or Rockstar Answer gear? i heard dealers are no longer able to get that stuff in the kids sizes...

actually I know somebody who suffered some kinda heart attack during a soccer match on a hot summer day. he fell into coma for a month or so. it turned out that the only thing he drank during the game was some energy drink. and he drank A LOT of it. If I remember correctly it was more than 1liter. Doctors said that was the reason for his heart attack.

but to be honest.... how stupid can somebody be and drink so much of that crap on a hot day during some exercise!? anybody who thinks this kinda beverage is healthy must be pretty dumb... just take a look on the ingredients and it takes no Doctor to see that this stuff is crap.
and yes I admit I enjoy also a RedBull or Rockstar from time 2time.

If they did a test like that on 90% of the 'food' most people eat on a day to day basis you find results just as negative or worse.
Big immoral corporations don't care about what they put in these things so long as they can sell them by the truck full, and we eat it up like it's going out of fashion.

Honestly, does anybody really drink the stuff for health or performance benefits? No different then a cup of coffee as far as I'm concerned. I drink it on the way to and from the track so I don't fall asleep on the long drive, and I drink Gatorade and water at the track. I do continue to buy Red Bull and Monster simply because they are major sponsors of the type of sports that interest me.

True the stuff does no good for you, possibly dehydrates you, and should never be used when doing any form of physical activity.

But hopefully it will not get to the point where it is banned, if used like the cans tell you it is not a danger, and should never be banned for kids, therefore hopefully keeping their money in moto.

that article dates back to 2007, at that time it had been banned in France following a few deaths in clubs in Europe of people who had been drinking heavy amount of mixing red bull and alcohol (vodka) and in some cases had also been on X. The product was labelled as a doping drink.

Red Bull is back on the market in France. First in April 2008 after Red Bull seriously modified part of the chemical formula (no taurine, no glucuronolactone) then in July 2008 the French government decided not to take into account the recommendation of the French equivalent of the FDSA and authorized Red Bull on the market.

It is still not allowed to be sold in Denmark.
