Sorry to hear. RIP Dan and thoughts go out to the Villopoto family. Anyone who hasn’t seen “2 be continued” I recommend having a watch to see how passionate Dan was about Ryan’s success and the sport. RIP

That is truly gut wrenching to say the least....but looking at these photos like you said, boy that shows how much they did love each other and how proud of his little boy he was. There is no feeling like that of being a dad, praying for RV and his family.

This is really too bad. Was there any truth to this being because of a racing incident?

I thought it was so cool at the monster cup, first moto they zoomed on RV on the line, and then zoomed out and his dad was there as the mechanic. Probably very special for both of them. RIP Mr. Villopoto

Met Dan on a few occasions but had a good weekend hanging out with him at the Qatar GP when it was the first round of the mxgp series that ryan took part in, we shared some laughs that weekend for sure. Such a shame he has had to leave us now.

But i also just read on racerX instagram post that he passed away while out riding at cahuilla creek? God speed Danny

Sad news, at least they got to spend some quality time together and can be proud he helped build a multi time champion. RIP

The Villopoto family will be in my prayers and thoughts. I lost my brother to a massive heart attack 1 year ago today. I understand what the family is feeling.

Hardest thing in life is losing your Dad. Only thing harder is losing a Moto Dad. Thoughts and prayers are with Ryan, his Mom and his brothers and sisters. God speed Dan.

Some recent documentary about the family sticks in my head at how much this family loved each other, how they worked their way back together, and saw them at MEC.....damn this sucks to hear. Godspeed Dan, and love and prayers to the Villopotos.

So sorry to hear this. I lost my dad unexpectedly back in May and it was literally my worst nightmare come true. Condolences to the entire Villopoto family.

That is really sad news to hear, given especially the past family troubles and to where they have been back together again at the track as a family effort again, just enjoying being there and having a blast. Condolences. God speed Dan

I’m done judging riders. RV seemed so robotic and distant (and fast).

He seems like the type of guy who would be a great friend in real life.
Pretty deep stuff.

His Dad and Grandpa loved the sport. His dad was so proud that he raised the most badass racer almost ever. There was nothing more they wanted than to be known as goats in the moto world and they did it. Plus after all those years of them getting stomped by the Alessis in amateurs once it really counted they came out on top and dominated the sport until he retired on top to go down as one of the best ever.

He was so proud of Ryan and as hard as it must have been during those years apart Im sure it made their recent years together that much better. It was sooo cool how it came full circle where his dad was able to travel to the races again with Ryan and be his mechanic. Ryan is truely having a great time racing for fun now and his dad was right there with him having a great time too. Seriously how much fun was Ryan having talking smack on instagram then doing that burnout after straight rythm.

His dad was absolutely pumped to be there right by his side again wrenching for his son and watching him out there competing again. We all gotta go some day but he got to watch his son attain all his dreams and he was right there rooting him on. Thats all you can ever ask for as a father plus he got to see Ryan get married and meet his grandkids. Thats more than any money can buy although they have plenty of that too. All around hes extremely proud of his son Ryan made him a very thankful grandpa before he moved on to a better place. Rip.
