Why does everything have to come down to money ?

None of you know what Herlings or Tomac gross each season. Clearly it's safe to say they don't have to worry about paying their mortgage.

The reason Tomac should IMO want to go MXGP, is try to become a frigging World Champion !!!

That should matter, not who's sponsors are worth the most.

Where's your US pride at....

Yeah, yeah, yeah only Americans and the french (and that one German fellow...Roczen) care about supercross...doesn't matter. Supercross is still the most prestigious, sought after, and valued dirt bike racing championship in the world.

I don't care all that much for supercross...I love MXGP and the Nationals...but supercross is the alpha male in terms of dirt bike racing.
supercross is the sideshow you mean ... Wink

missed one GP and ended up second the other 2 ...
he won all rounds in dutch nationals ( 4 GP's and won al 8 moto's )

so his win percentage is pretty good Wink

When the GP's mean more than Supercross the people funding everything will make it happen, Don't try to make like Americans have no pride because we don't rush over at our expense to entertain you.
SX is a cash cow.

I think you place too much importance on how rich the promotors can get over seeing the best in the world race on proper motocross tracks around the world.

I forget the names of the rd's, but some of the SX is a fucking freak show of shit, Watching your best guys paddling round a mud tracks at 3 mph. Or a super dry one lined goat trail where no one can pass, or lapping the slow guys 3 times, or seeing the stadium floor come through the dirt as the track isnt built well enough.

SX is a joke. but hey enough casual fans will pay to enter the stadium on a sat night so its better then MXGP.

Sad times.

Can't wait just like everyone else. Point is he has made the racing boring (I don't care how magical he is to watch when he's got everyone covered). Luongo should make him start in 5th gear like it seems Tomac does Laughing

Supercross is a different sport in which doesnt have much competition with rival series.

SX is followed by casual extreme sport type fans, that likely have not raced a dirt bike by in large.

MX is more of a racers sport & fan base.

Personally I think MXGP is more prestigious because in really matters to the hardcore fans. The fans that understand the sport & who are passionate about it.

SX fans are a bunch of hot dog eating chumps who get frills sitting next to a triple jumps for 4 hours.

If Tomac gave MXGP a proper go, it would add that next level prestigious the series deserves.

I cant for the life of me realise how winning a SX title could mean more then a MXGP title. Its a laughable comparison.
Different sport? That's ridiculous. It's a different type of motocross...hard pack, sand, supercross, loam. Just a different variation of the dirt and course (how many MXGP courses are MAN MADE and built in parking lots, fields, or race car track infields now? And its leaning more and more that direct...man made obstacles) Supercross tracks are also man made, just inside stadiums and with more jumps.

SX is followed, "by in large", by the exact same people that follow MX. The exact same media outlets cover both sports. They have the exact same target demographics. The stands are filled with hardcore fans who understand the sport and who are passionate about it.

MX fans are a bunch of hot dog eating chumps who get frills sitting next to a big jump for 4 hours...you can't deny that.

And you are correct, if the top Americans gave MXGP a go, it would become a much more prestigious series. Without them it falls behind supercross. You are exactly right.

You're grasping at straws here bro...and you're allowing your MXGP bias to make flimsy arguments.

With more than 70 percent of its fan base coming from the Millennial age group, Supercross intends to further tailor the sport to a younger audience as it continues to buck traditional media trends.

great article about last year with actual numbers etc etc

It's funny that you say all that but I'm almost willing to bet that come January you will be here watching SX complaining about too many commercials or some shit. I'm not saying I disagree with you but lets not act like SX is the bottom of the barrel here.

What is a joke is flying to Indonesia on a sketchy airline, where the medical care is next to useless, to race a complete garbage track like Pangkal Pinang just to pad Luongo's pockets. Say what you want about SX, I probably won't disagree, but fact is it is not nearly as big a joke as some of the shit that goes on in the GPs just so Luongo can make a buck, and probably never will be.

Luongo may have been a little bit drunk when he talked about the US and the GP series becoming "specialized" since Villopoto was talked into going over for a final tour.

While the GP guys definitely tend to specialize in outdoor MX, the AMA guys mostly do both SX and MX, giving them a fairly broad skill set.

I think most people would agree that Tomac and Herlings can compete with each other pretty freaking well on a motocross track, but I doubt that many would agree that they'd be equally as competitive on a SX track right now.....

Have you ever ridden both types of track ?

The SX style GP tracks are nothing like a SX track.

Most decent MX riders could race a GP track relatively safely. Ive raced a few GP tracks inc matterly & the jumps are well manageable.

Racing A1 would see the fast majority of racers in a ambulance. It's much more dangerous, the injury to track time ratio is far higher.

SX is a different sport.

Sorry bro i am French so euro but i am not agree with you at all ! The most prestigious scene is still the USA MX & SX Championship ! Period !

Why do you think 90% of the euros want to race and succeed there ? More glory comes with american titles in the Mx industry !

I am not saying an MXGP title is junk but It’s not as prestigious as an AMA title even if you think right now the fastest rider in the world is Herlings because to be good in the US you have to excel at MX & SX.

I think Tomac would do great in MXGP,, his style is more suited to outdoor tracks. He is fast indoor as well be he is more dominate outdoors. He can ride well on most surfaces and would adapt to the tracks quickly. I don't think being away from home would suit his personality very well though.

It would be a fun season to watch Eli and Jeffery go at it all season long.

Being a world champion in any sport involves that. Its all part of it.

Traveling the world, meeting different people & experiencing the cultures is what makes is so special.

Cairoli, Everts, Leok, Stribos & countless other top riders that rode long GP careers will tell you just how amazing it is to travel the world racing the sport you love.

The problem with the US is your inwardly focused. You need to dream bigger & think less negatively.

I can't believe I'm commenting on this but you're looking at it wrong...It doesn't matter what you or I think what is more pure or better than...what matters is what and where the manufacturers place their importance...and right now SX is that because it puts more butts in the seats and more eyeballs watching it on TV...and that is the bottom line.

I'm with you on not wanting to engage in this shitty no ending conversation/argument haha
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think there's a difference between 'most prestigious' and 'most watched'

Which is why I disagree with people when they say that SX is the most prestigious title..

About the pay for Eli and Jeffrey: I once read JH made close to a million euro’s the year he was 19 years old. That was in MX2. We’re now close to 5 years further in time. I assume the bonuses for race wins in MXGP are higher. Gear deals (Alpinestars, Airoh, Oakley and a lot of Dutch sponsors) no clue. Would Eli make that much more?

Okay 90% of euros wanting to ride SX is a straight up a lie. In the last eight years what euros have gone over there Roczen, Musquin, Ferrandis, all from countries who hosts SX races last time I checked 3 people isn't 90% so please stop with the BS.

The reason you have FIM as part of SX is to make it a World Championship and that is why the FIM will not leave because your guys want it to be classed a world championship. A World Championship is greater than a countries series it does not matter which series has the better riders.

I think a lot of you are getting confused, SX brings in the most money we all know that but that does not make it a better series than either MX series. Everyone starts riding because of motocross not supercross remember your roots.

Also here is how I compare MX and SX. MX is like 1500m running, SX is like 200m running, both are running but you train differently for both.

I dont believe Im looking at it wrong, I guess it's my personal opinion that MXGP world title means more then a SX title.

I respect an MXGP champion more then an SX champion. If I could of campaigned for either title & what I would liked to have told the grand kids, my choice would be world MXGP. It's not all about money & frankly it makes me sick how many of your place all your importance on money. Just think how many amazing experiences come from traveling the world, racing all the different nationalities in all the unusual countries. Yet all you care about is monster paid a bigger bonus because the stadium generated more income. Not what our sport is about.

Eli could wake up one morning & express a personal wish to shoot for a world mxgp title if he wished, a factory would of course make it happen if he really wanted it, he would be paid very well. Herlings would have real competition, the standard of the class would be pushed to a new level, in the industry could market this more & the sport would grow.

I honestly cant see how wanting to hold back elite talent in national series helps anyone.

MXGP is massive - go to an event, it is professional by next level standards to others and doing just fine under his guidance, like his ways or not.

If i am Tomac or Jeff or the next fast guy on either side of this coin i would seriously have to consider leaving my home series to compare elsewhere, it could easily be a poison chalice as we all know.

If however i truly wanted to be known as the greatest (not sure how many really give a F about the other side though, it is a more of a fanboy thing) then i would jump the series at my peak and challenge myself.

So far no AMA racer has made the transition and managed a GP title or even close in any of the classes.

Going from GP to AMA has proved different.

you have missed a lot of excellent racing

the women this year have been off the charts and then the axe killer classes (125, 250, 300) are just scrappers all the time, the 120 deal is for A LOT of great racing Smile

90% ?

polled racers results are where?

Laughing

I am not going to say one is better than the other, but it is child's play to call a World championship that races most of the globe on the hardest tracks known less prestigious.

SX is not MX, nothing to do with it.

But "World Champion" is in name only. Supercross is still the pinnacle of the dirt bike racing world (as unfortunate as that is)...and until MXGP becomes the pinnacle of the dirt bike racing world, MXGP will only be a world championship in name only.

Bullshit.

Geeze, BobbyM , I wish you could keep your opinions a bit briefer...........Woohoo

I couldn't agree with you more, though.

SX : I've followed it since I saw that a 16(yr) old - Marty Tripes - had won one at the Superbowl.

I pay for the live streaming each year. I watch it.

US Nationals - the same time frame. I now pay for the stream, and watch them.

The Motocross World Championships : I've followed then since the 60s when I was a kid.

I've watched the GPs live for what might be a couple, or three, decades now.

It's The World Championships , that counts the most for Me. And, even the most shitty 'pop up' MXGP track , is a damned sight better a track than a vicious, tiny little track set down in a baseball or footy stadium. Even that utter piece of shite that RV won a GP on in Thailand......... well, maybe not......

I'm getting on a plane for Switzerland, then Italy, tomorrow morning, and, among business BS, I'm going to Imola for the GP. Goodness knows what sort of track it will be - the last MX GP they had there was in the mid 60s. But, it will be better track than a SX one - and I've been to plenty of US SXs over the last few decades.

SX is a dog and pony act compared with MX.

its popularity is it a "blood sport" and it can be held at night in cities..

the actual racing is not better than mx racing.

whats this thread about??

Why would Tomac going to the GPs give the GPs next level prestige?

One guys dosent make or break a series.

Like I said previously....doesn't matter what you or I think...the manufacturers put more emphasis on a SX championship...it is what it is..
