Id like to see Cianciarilo win a champ and get #7. I think AP should take #9.

If no.2 and no.4 aren't retired, why should 7 be?

Plessingers comment about Stewarts big shoes to fill is the most respectful comment I have ever heard a champion say about another rider.

Just so that I'm clear, if James lines up at Ironman, races heat 1 and scores a single point, he gets to keep #7?

A rider needs to earn 25 points to retain their career #. Or they can write a letter requesting that they can keep their #. Usually the request is for a injury that prevented them from racing.

And James has already used up his written-in request, from my understanding.

Did you guys ever watch bubba’s world? they was an episode where his practice bike mechanic was taking his #1 plate off because he was no longer the supercross champ and James made him leave it on it for some reason. Probably staged I know but if not can you imagine if James did care and he couldn’t run 7 anymore..

He can still run #7... just not in US pro Supercross or Motocross. But you still see RV and McGrath running #2, Dungey running #5, Windham #14... they even worked a deal for RC to run #4 at Loretta Lynn's a coupe years back.

James doesn't care about racing/mx, why would he care about the #7?

I understand that but they ended their career positively, stews wasn’t ended by retiring and riding off into the sunset like everyone else. I’m not saying it’ll keep him up at night but like Kenny Watson said on the pulp show last week, this could be causing him some serious depression issues because of the way it ended and if that was true Ap taking his number that he built his company around would be a hard thing to swallow. I agree with everyone else if Ap wants it then take it, he earned it.

The #7 is a good looking number. Much better than 8 or 9.

Maybe i'm in my own world here, but i'm pretty sure that AP taking #7 isn't all that life altering to James... If he was a toddler, I would feel differently.

I get that they earned it fair and square and don't need "permission", but do current riders call retired riders and ask before they choose to run the retired rider's old number? Sort of out of respect? Seems I recall reading of some riders doing that, but can't remember who. Maybe it was Baggett that called RC and asked if he was cool with him taking the #4. Wonder if AP has contacted JS?

If James not running the #7 in pro AMA racing had any serious impact impact on his company, I'm quite sure we would have seen it by now after two years of #SocialMediaBlackout.

If James didn't care about #7 he wouldn't have written in a petition to keep it last season nor him and his father "leaking" news of him coming back on Honda's (which never happened nor was it going to). It's all BS and just a way for him to feel relevant in a sport that has all but forgotten him. If AP wants the number....take it, no phone call needed to James IMO.

Yep, it's all part of Stewart's five year strategic comeback plan! First go into seclusion, next get rid of sponsors, give up permanent single digit number... and come back with 259 on an Alta once they are legal. Stamp it!!

If JS7 ever raced a pro Moto again, he’s still a champ and still entitled to a single digit career number.
Maybe the chances of that get slimmer every day currently between zero and none but if it’s possible, its crazy to give away an earned number.
He should be awarded permanent #259 as compensation.

It would be cool to see him take the number 8 and put it on the Yamaha. Also, am I the only one that thinks AP8 has a little ring to it...? Cool

He has a choice of 5 , 7 , 8 and 9.

It felt weird when Cole took KW's number , and when Baggett took RC's number , or even Webb with RV's #.

But times change , and James has had like 3 years to come back. Which btw.....he kept saying he would , but didn't. Weirdest fucking exit a past champion has ever had in this sport. Pretty much a big " Fuck you! " to all his Fan's as far I'm concerned. Seriously.....I haven't been that big of a fan the past 4 - 5 years......and he basically just vanished.....not a fucking word! Like I said...weird!

Why he doesn't make it a point to say that in every single interview now is beyond me. There are so many places to sneak that word in. Butt patch at the very least.

I'm all in on this. If the dance off ends in a tie, then we go to mudhole diving contest to settle the number 7, and if that doesn't work then the final elimination round is an Orlando hot lap with a police siren on the roof of each car.

Post a reply to: So AP23.....is taking the #7 for next year.
