Good for Reed and his fans, I just don't see the payoff. If mid pack works for the party's involved and includes Smart Top brochures with Reed's autograph, then excellent.
For a team that obviously seems happy with Vince Friese level results then i don't see a downside.

Reeds ceiling is higher than anyone on that team last year except Brayton. Even with last years results there would've been 2 threads a week on here about him. How many people spoke about Weimer and Friese?

I agree and the team owner is a crafty businessman, so I am sure he knows what he getting.

I found it interesting that he didn’t have an energy drink sponsor this year, he had a long relationship with monster. Could be a factor?

“Potential race winner” if the plane carrying JA, KR, ET, and MM accidentally crosses into North Korean air space.
Haha yep probs add another 5 riders on top of that list unfortunately.
Seriously though top 10 in his last year is pretty darn good , but even with him fit don't expect much else outside some solid amount of 8-12 place finishes and a few top 5s at best .

This^^^^^ Chad Reed is an 87 year old who's most noteworthy racing accomplishment the past few years was holding up other riders who were lapping him in SX.

Bogle WON A FUCKING NATIONAL!!!

Reed may help sell hot tubs, but if I were MC I'd want someone with a chance of winning, and Reed doesn't have that anymore. Maybe they hire Reed to be the new Jake Weimer? I guess there is always room for someone who barely makes mains and finishes 11-15th most weekends.

I'd take a chance on a guy who's won something recently and actually has SPEED, like Bogle.

I'd rather hire Bogle over Reed at this point, unless Chad is bringing some big $ sponsors with him to help take the burden of the team owners pocketbook. I were Bogle I'd be doing whatever I could to stay at JGR or get that 2nd seat at Yamaha since Bogle has value outdoors and I feel Webb needs a fresh start.

If that is the case they should stack the team with Bogle, Grant and Wilson, maybe combined they could make it 1 whole indoor and outdoor season.
Every rider you listed is faster than Chad Reed.

He could have podiumed or won the race in Vegas that year if Anderson hadn't taken him out because of euro team tactics.

MCR likely couldn't care less about Bogle winning a National, they only race SX and in SX, Bogle is basically a crash test dummy.

Has Bogle ever finished a season in the 450s? I have nothing against the guy but he's fragile. Too much liability. Manufacturers would rather have bikes on the the gate than a rider on the couch.

Props to Chad if he wants to keep racing but he hasn't been competitive for a few seasons now.

Excluding RC in his prime, best rider finisher list, it comes and goes.

Who knows, if Reed is set free from all the bullshit of running a team, and shows up healthy and well rested,
without a care in the world, and the usual number of younger guys self destruct, might be an eye opener,

"Aw mate, I want the chain a bit tighter, and another click up front. Ellie, you need to get back to Monster.
Mike, watch the tablecloth, and get me my lawn chair. Anyone needs me, I'll be out back watching the barbie."

Chad’s last win was over 3 years ago. There’s no denying that Chad was one of the greatest Supercross racers in history, but so was Rick Johnson, and I don’t see him winning a race this year, either. Age catches up with the best of them. I have no doubt that he’ll have the longest autograph line in the pits, but suggesting Chad Reed as a potential race winner in 2019 is just ignorant.

Chad seems to be working harder this off season than the last few years. Hope he can find a team and cut down on his stress level and focus on being fit with a good bike.

If I can't sign 94, 25,3 or 21 I'd rather have Chad than anyone else. He gets more exposure just riding around in 18th than anyone else finishing 4th.

So true. And i really think if he comes in fit, healthy, and dialed in with the bike he'll be much much higher than last year

Dumb response. You are blessed to have seen a rider of Chads capabilities race.

I agree. I was even luckier to get to see Jeremy McGrath ride Supercross, but he won’t win a Supercross race in 2019, either.

Well except for Tomac, I don't see the speed evolved much either over 3 years.

A good start, like the MCR bike provides, and although there is a group of 4 big guns (Tomac, Anderson, Musquin, Roczen), some 5's are very well possible still.

A top 5 at 37 is not something to be ashamed of and we should just be glad as racing fans that the last of the "legends" is still racing. And just for the $ standpoint, I am sure it brings a bit of public too, remember when JS7 got suspended some venues were less filled too.

Reed is an asset to any team, HRC would do good to hire him and help work with Craig and Roczen. Reed can teach them both a ton of things, add a ton of people to the HRC pits, the dude is tough as nails and rides through injuries, a healthy Reed can podium even in a stacked field and you have a guy who can stay on and help develop next years bike. I am sure Honda Japan can loosen up the purse strings and kick a few hundred grand his way for the season.

Teams sponsor riders to sell products. Some do that through race wins and podium speeches. Others have a huge social media platform and following. Reed would get just as much brand exposure due to his popularity and social media presence as a guy like Seely or Barscia who could win a race. As a team manager if I couldn't land a probable race winner, I'd land a Chad Reed.

The guy is a guaranteed weekly mention during the broadcast.
