Way too early to call. Up to this point his focus was 65s. Now thats over. Not sure why the decision this year to race !imited 85 instead of stock at Lorettas. Was that a decision by KTM to try to help his buddy Dax and spread out chances of KTM championships, or a move by Brian to avoid having to face Difrancesco and Dax whete hed be racing for 3rd?

Either way hes pretty much done on 65s and will have to face stiffer competition now. He could be the next Mcgrath, he could be the next Jlaw or he could vanish and never be heard from again.

He's AMA 11 which is to say he was 11 at the cut-off but has since turned 12.

I think the kid is phenomenal. It almost seems like Brian and the crew werent even that excited about his 65 win. his sister said she thought he would do better. LIKE WTF. the kid killed em. and ya his 85 run was a pair of 2nds but the kids rear brakes were gone since the first turn. I have no idea what it could happen in the future with the kid but as of right now he is crazy fast and on track to do well. (If he doesnt get pushed to much and say F it, or decides by 16 he hates this sport). Its like other sports its hard not to get burnt out when u give up your childhood to be at the racetrack. but all that aside hes impressive id say.
He is phenomenal, but there are other kids that are just as fast. Hayden raced 65s and is the oldest kid in the class and he won. In 85 limited (9-11) he was also the oldest kid in the class and he got beat by Daxton Bennick who is definitely a better rider on a track like that. Ryder D. on the other hand rode 85 (9-12) and Mini Sr. (12-13) and he won both classes. Hayden usually races against Ryder and Jett Reynolds and they're definitely faster, but also a little older. So, that's probably why sister and Dad weren't totally pumped.

People are making a little deal of it because it looks like Deegan dropped down while Ryder moved up. It's easy to get a little salty when you see the rig they pull up in at the track and you see them roll out on essentially a factory bike w/ a full time mechanic. And then you look at the kids they're racing against roll up in 6x12 cargo trailer pulled by a 2008 Toyota Tacoma and Dad is jetting the 3 year old bike while Mom checks tire pressure. But the fact is, he still puts in the crazy work and he still hucks these huge jumps. So, I give him credit.

Personally, I like Daniel Blair's take on all of this, which is that the factories should stop grooming 1 or 2 phenoms because it's impossible to tell how it will go when they get older. And they should get back to giving lots of kids good equal bikes, then selecting right before turning pro.

Hayden is a bad dude. Is he currently the best in his range? Maybe not at this exact moment, but he's in striking distance and this is a marathon, not a sprint. He has the potential to be at the top.

1. This kid knows how to win, probably more so than half on this board.
2. Lol why do you think he’ll be a mid pack rider? Assuming he continues to get better and better, the logical thing to think, he’ll be winning many a.m. titles before turning pro...

Also, tomac grew up wealthy? The dude sure loves to win he puts it all on the line every moto. Just because his family has money doesn’t mean he won’t want to haul major ass and beat the living shit out of his competition.. half of which he might be racing with rn.
Tbh i think Brian keeps his kids VERY level headed...

It was cool to see him stop and help that kid pinned under his bike in Moto 1 after he knew he championship hopes were already gone. The kid still has some level head on him. Doing that makes me like him more than seeing him win races.

Define wealthy.....Tomac’s brother is a pilot in the Air Force. theyre a true hard working American family. Yet people hate on them for being “wealthy” ????

I think it says something for the Deegan family that Brian pulled them OUT of home schooling and put them back in regular schools. So riding, training, playing, all happens after school is out and homework is done. How many other kids at his level are going to regular school? How many are living in an RV and home schooling?..

Well I’m assuming he was because his dad is a retired legend. It was an example, I’m a big tomac fan. Wealthy is living comfortably. No ones hating on tomac in this thread, nor did they say their family isn’t hard working.. where do you get this stuff in your head ?

i agree with this, i think Deegan keeping him in normal school is a good thing, he also posted pics of him playing Football last year which I think is a good thing, i think some team sports could have done some good things to some mx riders,

I agree with this as well. If I'm not mistaken, I think Cooper Webb went to school as well. I remember a segment with his mom saying if he didn't do well in school he didn't ride. I thought I saw it on a vurb special or something I'm not sure.

This is exactly whats wrong with youth sports in general,Adults debating on a KIDS projected arrival date (P.A.D.) at the Professional level!

8/7/2018 1:49pm
The kid was 11 prior to cutoff which makes him eligible per the rules and spanked the field. He also raced the 85 class and finished DNF, 2,2. How the hell is he sandbagging. Without the DNF the kid finishes second overall in a class some "think" he should be in. Clearly we should write this kid off.., not enough skill to make it in the big league.

Obvious sarcasm intended.

Not for nothing, but I believe growing up I remember Brian's dad was a School District Superintendent in Nebraska.

Nothing but pure respect for Brian Deegan. His hard work, passion and business smarts shows with all his kids. Great parents. Great kids. Good to see the effort is paying off.

Really? He's already on your shit list at 12? Enlighten me, what has he done to lose your respect / friendship? I've noticed that a lot of grown men, including some parents, are jealous of kids. Some they're own. It's an Interesting phenomenon, is it huge ego, or lack of self confidence? Maybe a lack of personal achievement? I'd love to know, because it's really disgusting to see.

He's AMA 11, the rules go by your age as of January 1st. I think he turned 12 later in January so he's legal. Kind of a dumb rule, but it doesn't matter where you place the cutoff date someone is going to complain.

Haiden is the real deal and we are going to be hearing his name for a long time. I honestly didn't expect him to do as well as he did on the 85 this year. He didn't look that great on the bike during the spring nats or during qualifying. The 85 class is always stacked, but to be honest he lucked out with timing. The bulk of the heavy hitters have graduated on to Supermini and MiniSr. He didn't have to race against Ryder D, Jett Reynolds, Nick Romano, Chance Hymas, Nate Thrasher, Max Vohlland, Matt Leblanc, and Jeremy Ryan. His biggest competition was Daxton Bennick and Krystian Janick.
Daxton, Haiden, and Krystian are all great riders and steadily improving, but they aren't even close to Ryder D and Jett Reynolds right now.

I would bet KTM had something to with wanting a bike with #1 on it racing. Doesn't happen much at Loretta's on mini's.

Look at what his father and sister has accomplished, they’re all champions, it’s in thier blood. He’ll do great things either as a racer or some something else.

Why is this even post ? just because he's Brian Deegan's son ? He is one of the top riders IN HIS AGE GROUP.
1. You can't sand bag a class you are 100% eligible for. The only time it's ever an issue is with the parents of the kids he's beating.
2. Not liking his father isn't a reason to not like him.....kid is a class act and as far as I'm concerned Brian Deegan is father of the year....does everything for his kids and securing their future.

You saw like a minute of their reactions.

Also, his sister was very clearly being sarcastic.
your right. wasnt there and was a quick snippet of there reactions. Id say winning at LL is pretty serious stuff. Most wont reach that level so i guess what u see on you tube is a false sense of the whole reaction and the talks im sure they had after the podium. His sister seems to be killing it in trucks hope Haiden stays with bikes and not NASCAR. although i enjoy both he just has so much talent on bikes.

I didn't really care for deegan and the whole metal mulisha movement. As i get older as well as brian is, i must say he is bringing up his kids right. They are polite with other kids and they get along with just about everyone. I mean in the middle of his moto he helped a kid from under his bike. He runs around like a chicken with his head cut off and brian and his wife and done very well with there upbringing of there kids. I would be proud on that alone.

I was talking about when hes pro. Some riders like Alessi were so used to winning everyyyyything that when he turned pro and was outside the top 5 more times than he ever had been in his life he didnt know what to do. He had better equipment than everybody his whole life too. So Im saying when you turn pro the equipment is all top notch and everybodys fit. What I was saying is that when you turn pro you dont just win everything right away so for some it can be a shock when your riding as fast as you possibly can and are in 10th place when you first move up.

That being said he seems grounded and I think hell be fine hes crazy talented. I wasnt saying he will have any probs Im just saying its something that can happen to Amateur phenoms, because they go from winning any and everything to not winning for sometimes a couple years. He seems like he really truely enjoys it tho and its in his familys blood they keep it fun. He doesnt look like hes being pushed to do anything he doesnt wanna do. The person asking why is this a thread, because Im asking how people think he compares now in his career to other top pros when they were amateurs and how do you think hell do. Tbh hes better now than a lot of top pros were, but weve seen a good amateur career doesnt automatically translate. He seems to be on the right path though and I think hes gonna be big.

Im just quoting RVs dad is all. Where in a documentary he explained how the kids with no money that go to LL and lose are pissed, but their dads really pissed cuz now hes driving home 17 hours in the RV swiping the card for gas and the kid didnt even perform. So when the kids parents have no money and see how much their parents are sacrificing just to barely make it to the races, sometimes (not all) it lights a different kind of fire in the kid when he knows if he fails there is no backup plan and the parents spent all the money on you. Tomac is a good example of how it can work the other way too, nothing is set in stone and everyone is an individual. Sometimes it works to their advantage because they have better training, coaches, equipment...etc. But people like bubba knew if he fails his family stars dirt ass poor so he put his whole family on his shoulders. When you have nothing to fall back on it can inspire. Nothing is set in stone though and again this kid has a great head on his shoulders and I see success in his future.
