Post your gnarliest injury (not for the squeamish)

Wish I knew where the xrays were, but the worst injury I’ve had was a broken jaw when I was 5.

Was riding a PW50 with an open face helmet and went into a chain link fence. Broke my jaw in 3 places and had it wired shut for a month or two. Had to drink everything through a straw, mainly yogurt, sometimes Chef Boyardee.

Messed my teeth up for life and had to get 5 extracted, had to get braces, have scars on my entire gum line, and most of my roots look like an S from growing in all messed up.

Wear a proper helmet kiddos.

April 29th I believe my bike bogged. I'm going crazy while waiting to heal so that I can ride.

Scaphoid in my wrist and the other collar bone in another.

The WORST lingering pain is the damn scaphoid. It hurts every damn day. Range of motion is practically none. It sucks.

Went down and put my hands out, the ground is really hard there and it just sheered my finger off. I had pins in it for 9 weeks and then it got infected so I'm currently on a picc line and doing antibiotics everyday for 6 weeks. They reattached the finger but I don't have hardly any movement in it at this point.

My worst was when I burst 2 discs and bulged 2 and fractured my L3 horizontal all the way across and broke a giant chunk of my bone off that was crushing the nerve. That was bad.

Here though I came up a foot short literally on the Elevator at its biggest. Shattered heal and Talus. Good times.

3rd turn of a 2hr hare scramble.... Simple wash of the front end... Crash I've done countless times with no consequence.... I think the handlebar pinched the tip of my finger just right to slice off the tip. Didn't even make a mark on my glove. I had to beg the ER doc to sew it pack on. The tip was perfectly preserved inside my glove. It didn't take but it kept the tip of my finger covered and allowed it to heal without infection. I essentially have no feeling to this day (happened right before Thanksgiving last year). It grew back to about 95% of what it used to be. The nail is just slightly deformed looking but nobody has ever really noticed. Such a stupid crash and injury that it pissed me off more than anything. I can only type with 9 fingers now. That finger tip doesn't provide me any tactile feedback to tell if I am pressing the key.

I don't have any cool pictures of it, but in one loop out crash I broke and displaced my left tib/fib, two vertibrae, three ribs, and my tail bone. Happened back in 1999, if I remember correctly. No real lasting problems from it, even though I still have a bunch of hardware in my leg.

Nothing compared to you guys, this was just a flesh wound. I was hauling ass down some trails and got cross rutted. As I fell I put my left arm out and landed on a downed pine tree. One of the branches hooked my forearm, popping the skin open exposing my forearm muscles.

It hurt no worse than a little road rash.

First time loading up a bike in a van without a ramp.
My stupid 15 year old ass grabbed the end of the swingarm of my old KX 85, as I was lifting up, I moved my hand to where the sproket and the chain meet to and moved the bike in to the van. The chain rolled and sliced my finger right off.
I'd say the worst pain comes after surgery for 3-4 days.
It didn't really hurt as much as some people might think, at least in my case.
You can tell by the pictures 3 and 4 that I didn't have a nail but as you can see in the first two the nail started to grow along with the finger.
I have yet to form a finger print but have full sensitivity. The skin is very fragile.

About 3 months after the amputation I started playing rugby again and burst my finger right as I made my first tackle (photo below).
After that I started using a thimble and some tape to hold it together.

Mtb without kneepads

2 surgeries... One to clean it up then another to pull out a piece of bone. Nothing broken/torn but still hurts like a mother effer today

I haD to dig up a couple pics, cased a double. It was a monster IMPACT, and after several other broken wrists, arms, and then a back, they filled it into a tabletop.

-shattered left femur close to the hip
-broke left radius and ulna (forearm bones) close to the wrist
-3rd degree separation right shoulder
-cracked sternum
-multiple ribs broken both sides
-right lung collapsed from rib puncture
-severe concussion

In a wheelchair for 3 weeks because I couldn't use a walker. Then a walker for another 3 weeks. At 5 months I was jogging (VERY painful and short distance) and at 10 months I started riding again with no pain. I still have the 14" titanium nail in my femur with no plans to take it out since I do not ride anymore. Oh yeah and my ribs are uber ugly because a couple overlapped and healed that way.

Still recovering.

I had almost the exact same break. Long healing process, 7 months on crutches, 1 year off the bike.
8 years later it still swells up and I have limited movement in the ankle, but I still ride. Smile
