It's a feature, not a final judgement. If someone's being a donkey on the board, I generally already know it.

Personally, I plan to use it to give kudos to people who are posting good stuff, not so much a slap on the wrist for people who aren't.

Great addition. Could be adjusted a bit further for it to be more of as a tool for users.
e.g.:
-See who voted (Even if it's only the "thumbs down" instead of the "thumbs up")
-The people that are replying to that specific thread are the ones that can vote. (This will promote the engagement of lurkers on the discussion, as you will need to post in order to vote. This will also raise your overall "Reply" count on the forum.

How you plan to use it, and how it can, and is already being used (ripe for abuse) are entirely different.
I’m not fore or against it, but may I suggest you make the voters transparent to promote more sensible voting?

What's funny is, I haven't gone back to look at a single one of my posts to see how people have voted.

On the other hand, I've been subject to it for years with the content I post here. Smile

My only concern is that it will detract from people replying to posts and engaging with each other. Rather, a simple "like" of a comment already made, instead of responding and adding to the conversation.

Seems like a cool idea, but when u click on the number to see who liked or disliked, it says theres "4" unregistered users. if you dont have an account i feel like u shouldnt have the option to like or dislike

I've seen other forums have a 'thank' feature, so if someone helps you out or posts something good, you can 'thank' them. Some forums go a step further and display how many times a poster has been 'thanked' under their avatar.

Either way, I think this might be geared more towards what you're trying to achieve.

Yeah, that’s what I was getting at in my previous post. That way is ripe for abuse.
If someone doesn’t like your comment, fair enough, but don’t give them the option of anonymity, let them own it!!

Is it me or is something going on with this thread? It takes about 4x the time to load as any other thread and I also noticed Mav's OP has 44000 down votes on it.

I asked when the poll feature appeared and I guess it applies to this as well (maybe I missed the response)...how many times can each member vote? Once per user or can a mindless idiot just keep tapping the keyboard all day trying to skew the results? Just asking.Whistling

Beats me, but I just liked your message, and couldn't click again.

As for the whole thing. Wow, I can't believe how riled up some of you (and I'm not talking about you, Plowboy) ladies are about this. It's a simple up/down vote.

You mean ....a person like me?

Kinda corny for a site like this. For instance , this thread. Go look at the first page.....just the first page. Look at the likes vs dislikes.....on just a simple post like ML's........heavily disliked , by just explaining what this stupid shit is.

I'll go on record right now.....I absolutely , 100 percent could not give a shit what other's think of my posts / responses. I don't care if you " like or dislike " something I said......AND!!!.......how in the fuck would I know if " you " got offened? It's anonymous on who likes it or doesn't!

Me personally......I think it's fucking stupid!

Well dear, with 81 for and 44,307 against, I guess you have your answer.

Shouldn't be able to vote if not a registered voter. Whistling

Hypocritically, I used the feature and gave you a thumbs up for that, in agreement about it being fucking stupid. one good thing about it is I feel the years are rolling back and I’m back in kinder garden..lol

Lol....I'm all for trying new stuff. But there always seems to be folks trying to game everything. I was taught and spent my life trying to "do the right thing". Not always easy and sometimes downright painful but that old boy in the mirror very rarely was ashamed of anything. I see folks doing bad stuff and finally figured out that what they believe is that the "right thing" is what's right for THEM. Everyone knows that's how politicians, car salesmen, etc think but now it seems just as likely to be yer neighbor...rant over. I'm gonna try it the way I think it was intended...up for good stuff...down for trolls and negative nellies. Fair enough?

That's about perfect. Now if we could get more people to operate like that...

Reminds me of a song from John Lennon... Wink

Steve....I'm all for you guys making the site a bigger and better place , and with that being said.....this idea is gonna flop. I mean fail in so many ways , That you or someone else will soon find out just how dumb it is. Hopefully you were joking by what you wrote above....but if you weren't? Let's just take these two posts from you here. If you don't think every single poster on this site will get the major " dislike's " , like what you just got.....you have to be kidding yourself. This new addition to the board is not going to work out here. You'll get guys " dis-liking " a certain guy's posts every single time , weather he agree's with what was said or not.

Are you seriously going to try and use this as a modding tool here? Well Jesus Christ......I guess we all better start looking for a couple of new mods to replace you and ML with all the " Dis-likes " you are getting. It's all fun and games now.....but if you start clicking people because of the dumb dis-like button.....then someone here isn't doing their job right.

Again.....not sure if you were serious with what you wrote.
