Those old goofy colored 80's/90's suits would make great mx gear! Then the trendy people who need to be like everyone else can bitch about it!
basically, John Daly is a poor example to use in retort to my post. he found a loophole in the rules and exploits it. but John Daly has been a huge figure (no pun) in the sport for a really long time. just like Ryan Smith, he's trying to look like a putz while competing in a professional sport. my comment said "shorts and a tank top". while he looks ridiculous, John is still wearing slacks and a collared shirt much like Smith was still wearing pants and a long sleeve.
it's silly and has no place in the sport (professional side of things). to Ryan, be a man and go buy a fucking set of gear like the rest of the guys on the line without support. gotta love the entitlement of the younger generation, nobody owes you shit, especially without the results to back it up.
If we are forced to look at pro golfers let’s discard those of fat fuck drunk Daly and replace them with Alisa....this girl can really play and she looks wonderful doing it

You do realize that when you wear a purchased FMF t-shirt, you are advertising for that company, right? Well, you paid them to advertise for them. Now you may, or may not, reach their (FMF's) targeted audience (probably not, since MXer's are a small group), but if you do, they have NO cost involved, just profit. I'm all for profit in business and would love free or profit advertising.
If Feld/AMA/Promoter wants riders to wear approved "professional" gear, then they should amend the rule book. I hope Ryan's actions bring him a gear sponsor and I hope he improves his riding enough to make mains and make a living.
Emig said on the broadcast that he was within the rules wearing jeans. Don't like the rules? Lobby to have them changed.
I thought it was a cool move.
Fans laughed. The industry laughed. The magazines ran pics giving 'props'. There wasn't one message board thread calling for their heads.
Same thing when Lars Tribus (NJ local pro and multitime Masters World Champ) raced a few times at pro nationals in a full suit. Was a play on him having a full time sales job for a pharmaceutical company during the week and then shredding the pro ranks in mountainbikes on the weekends. He actually got a full magazine feature on him with those pictures.
This dude is a local pro, not in anyway a thread to make the podium or top 10, and he didn't do anything 'illegal' except have a bit of fun and everyone here is going off about 'the professionalism'. AHHAHA. Monster Energy is the title sponsors of Supercross and they are all about boobs, big trucks, and bros.
Lighten up homies.
Edited to include pics:
Lars racing pro in a suit at Sea Otter, one of the biggest mtb industry races of the year:

Kyle racing Sea Otter 2007 pro slalom in jeans, full dirt jumper style. (he raced in jeans quite a bit)

Couldn't find any of Smutok racing in jeans (he didn't race DH all that much) so here's him just being sick throwing a 3 off this drop. He now builds the Red Bull Rampage courses.

GOOD that he tried to shake things up and raise general awareness for how thinly spread the payout is in this sport.
BAD, the way he executed it. Made himself and the entire sport look like hillbillies. He should've worn plain white gear that said "I DON'T EARN ANY MONEY DOING THIS" in huge letters. I'd be curious to see if they would let him race in that outfit.
You pay the guys that barely make the show nothing, how do you expect them to dress?
you're welcome
