I'm still shocked that riders aren't having to wear mandatory protection to keep it fair, when you consider what all other top level racing tiers have gone through the last 10 years. HANS is an awesome example, and has trickled down into almost all racing classes. THATS professional.
To remind, this is the some of the most global exposure in print MX has had the last 10 years:
There's a whole bunch of 'riding jeans' out there, I think started by OZ company Draggin' Jeans, years ago. But now they are made by many main stream MC clothing companies.
"Jeans" with Kelvar and other far more exotic linings, and inserts, that get some of them past very high Euro / German TUV specifications, that many real leather suits and pants don't pass. That I doubt many of our 'Nylons' would pass. "Jeans" that are far safer / tested than the nylon pants most of us wear. And, their cost reflects that. Big Bucks - but what price safety whilst looking like a normal person, and not a brightly coloured storm trooper or leather fetishist?
Jerseys - I guess some of the jerseys you can buy are stronger / safer than a long sleeve cotton T Shirt. And , I'd say many if them are a damned site more dangerous, with regards to being a 'melt' or fire hazard.
Our clothing / protective equipment requirements and safety standards are laughable.
I only caught the finals - have to go back and see what all this ruckus is about.
