They did the exact opposite. Credit where credit is due. Their Supercross is very solid and enjoyable. But let's also call a spade a spade. All Out's Nationals are, for the most part, terrible. Literally, several tracks you can take a whole lap without letting off the gas or touching the brakes. Inexcusable. And part of that is caused by these ludicrous wide tracks.
Redemption could be in smaller xcaled replica outdoor dlc but I'm not holding my breath.
But yeah, SX very good. MX is super weak.
Pros
- Supercross is fun
- Terrain deformation very good
- AI challenging(I am not the greatest gamer)
Cons
- Released a unfinished game
- Turning is very bad...
- National tracks are horrible (Reflex tracks are 10X better)
- Bike is like a BMX bike in the air
- AI results are random. Not good for a championship series
Now a major complaint for most of the game releases now a days. Why are games getting released in a clearly unfinished state. Both MES and All Out have numerous issues at launch. Playing on the Xbox one the framerate is horrid in All Out on the national tracks.
Back to playing Reflex sadly as is still "feels" the best.
The frame rate issue is better, not gone though. It feels like the game just can't keep up with the detailed environments. They still aren't very clean and smooth. Especially the seaside environment.
I've seriously complained about this for nearly 15 years with this series. I would really appreciate if Red or Mike would just explain why that has never been addressed? I've beat that subject like a dead horse. It has never been rectified. Or even worked, it appears. It is a MAJOR downfall of this entire series.
What's the point of BRAPP when you can't even pick them for your series, or give them skill points. It seems like the developers want to go half in/half out for somewhat authentic experience. They give us the option for qualifying, but what is the point?
Having these options wouldn't affect the rest of the game for those who like to just play online, free ride, etc. Baffles my mind...
Pit Row
It's good to have cool whips and decent simcade physics but you must also have logic and that is plain illogical.
To someone who plays single player championship series or career such illogical AI finishes is pretty much a game killer. Plus yes, BRAAP is cool but not being able to select them is a terrible decision.
And it isn't mission impossible. Milestone's AI in their championship series has always been pretty damn accurate dating way back to their first MX game, MUD.
It's things like that that bug the crap out of me with Rainbow and why i generally don't play their games for very long. I like their gsmeplsy in All Out but honestly the randomness of the AI and inability to choose my created pros will make the series pretty pointless.
It's sad. And what makes it sadder is I have emails over 10 years old dating back before Reflex of me asking the team to please address this very issue.
Hope someone will chime in and provide some insight as to why this is never a priority.
Authenticity matters. Details matter. There is a reason why EA Sports pays the licensing fee for NFL, NBA, UFC, all the athletes, brands, even voice overs.
A generic fighting, football, or basketball game would not go over well. If someone loaded up Madden and 90% of the players were not the current top athletes and the fonts on the gear were using comic sans people would go ape shit.
Supercross the Game has done really well because they nailed authenticity. They looked at all aspects of Supercross as a show and replicated it into a video game. MXGP does an even better job with the garage and team signing of the game.
MX vs ATV franchise is a relatively small team. It is impressive what they can do but they can do so much more. They essentially told us authenticity was not a possibility. Then Milestone went out and did just that and made them look like fools. I enjoy both games and I'm currently playing more MX vs ATV because I like to see what the physics are capable of.
I think where MX vs ATV fails is they don't know who they want to sell to. On one hand they are trying to appeal to the masses with massive free ride environments and UTVs...but on the other hand they have crazy deep customization. The overall UX of the user interface is horrid. Why is the vehicle selection a separate view than the dealership..same goes for tuning. All of that should happen from one screen. The sound guy tried to do something cool but it's like they don't even sit back and listen to the game themselves...or the sound guy isn't big into moto.
Wow, pretty quiet after patch release. Xbox 11gb patch updated from 1.02.x to 1.04.2 last night. No greyed out menu like holtergiest. The fps improvements are minor. Lag is the worst in corners for sx tracks as that's what I play the most so I could tell it was a little better, but not 2-patches-combined great. Vancouver sx finally loaded as an event so that was fixed for me. Leaderboards still broken (or turned off?), it only shows my name. The multiplayer custom race browser displays the hosts way faster so that is good. However, I could not get into any online races at all even after restarting the xbox after patch update and restarting the game twice. I tried everything to connect but couldn't. Hope this was just a post patch server issue. Am I the only one denied online racing action on the xbox post-patch?
I wonder if the FIM or FELD approached Milestone to make the SX game to help build the SX brand? And would the path to an authentic game be an entirely different if that were reversed. My bet is yes, which is why it's always been a sticking point for Rainbow.
As far as opinions go I don't really need the realism of the SX series to enjoy a game. The feel of All Out is the attraction for me personally and my attention has been on it souly since release. Just got into my first online lobby last night with no issues and fantastic racing (after patch) . I'd like to see the sounds (2stroke) worked on some more and some better nationals. But overall I'm very happy with the fun factor of the All Out!
Just because Rainbow has not done it correctly for over 15 years does not make it right. From the word go, Milestone has nabbed licenses and also programmed AI to reflect the real life riders to some degree. I mean even with MUD they did that.
Look, I appreciate All Out and think it is an improvement and I think they dd a lot right. But most people play video games to role play. I mean, that is what video games are about! Take a basketball game and put a bunch of no name people in it with fake teams, fake uniforms, etc. Even if it has great physics do you really think it is going to appeal to the NCAA or NBA fan (which most basketball people watch and enjoy)? I'm a fan of our sport. Not just riding a dirt bike. I'm a fan of Monster Energy Supercross and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross and MXGP. Recreating that properly means something to me and I also think it means something to others. Our sport can't be that different from every other sport to where that recreation of real life means nothing.
If you are going to put the real pros in the game then you should make them somewhat accurate on where they finish to some degree so your career mode and season mode make sense. Period. To not do so is a complete waste of even having them in the game and having a career/season mode. If you aren't going to program logic in them to make them at least somewhat reflect their real life counterparts then you shouldn't even put them in the game. Just have generic names, bikes, tracks.
Or give us BRAAP (which they did) but allow us to put our created riders in the game and give them some sort of ranking so they ballpark finish where they should.
Online is huge and I get that. But so is career. So it should make sense.

Hopefully the Arenacross is pretty tight though. Sounds like it could be a controller-throwing good time
Fix the bugs first before trying to milk more money from us. Maybe as a gesture give some free content to make up for the weeks of suffering through shit frame rates.
I was free riding and chatting with a guy last night on All Out. He told me about a glitch I didn't know about. If you set your controller to manual shift (Square and X buttons for shifting), stay in 1st gear and tap X about once every second. You will keep picking up speed especially if going in a straight line. I was able to go over 120mph and really launch some huge jumps on the free ride maps. It's kind of impossible to use in SX. It might work on the MX tracks but it's a bit of a PIA to do and stay in control going that fast.
I wish online would migrate hosts when the original host leaves so the race doesn't just abruptly end and send you back the the main screen. It makes plaguing online a little annoying because if the host leaves, everyone has to find a new lobby and then that host decides to leave and the circle repeats.
The 450s are way too fast, in my opinion, for the size they made the SX tracks but that's whatever. Another thing I wish was that they'd add some more weight to the Tuff blocks so they dont go flying as easily. Still wish in an update they'd eliminate the clutch boost.
I thought there was a Vital MX club on xbox but i can't seem to find it. I'd love to get some custom matches going. Can't rely on match making for shit.
