Now Yam has to spend thousands re wrapping the truck and getting new graphics and pit shirts before Friday.
Which brings up the larger picture- is Yamaha so bereft of outside support that they let these guys be the lead outside sponsor, or did the marketing team at Yam fall for a line of bullshit from some bro super salesman?
I’m sure the first check from Blimpie cashed just fine for Suzuki, but don’t teams even check financials on these companies? ( if this is a financial issue of course).
Yamaha's Vice President of Motorsports was unavailable for further comment, as he was meeting with a wealthy Nigerian Prince about future sponsorship opportunities.
Pit Row
IMO it’s embarrassing and amateurish for both parties.
There’s a lot of sponsorship breach in motorsports, but this is one of the bigger failures that I can remember.
i actually had a few convos via instagram to whoever runs their IG page. i was telling them respectfully how terrible and confusing their image is and unprofessional and confusing everything is. all i got was “thanks bro! knich 4 life!” responses. it was bizzare
THE MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION CONTRACT BETWEEN YOU AND Knich Life Co.
Knich Life Co., KLCOG, LLC., WPG, Inc., & WMG, LLC., offers four (4-10 & can vary, depending on promotions) different re-billable monthly subscriptions (“Monthly Subscriptions”).
We and many others wondered what exactly Knich is, as it’s unusual for a brand-new company to become a major supporter of a factory team. After talking to some people familiar with the company, we were told that Knich is the side project of an entrepreneur that is highly involved in ammunition and that Knich was created to side-step a restriction against firearm sponsorship. The founder of Knich is a friend to Millsaps, hence the connection to the team.
At the time we were told that aside from the entrepreneur making his initial money in ammunition, there is no direct connection between Knich and firearms.
The press release from Yamaha, which is posted in full below, included very limited details and only stated that the agreement is void, effective immediately.
Cypress, CA – February 21, 2018 - It is with great disappointment that Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., has terminated Knich's sponsorship agreement with Yamaha Factory Racing, effective immediately. The announcement was made by Keith McCarty, Motorsports Racing Division Manager for Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A.

I have no facts to back this up but it's just what it looks like to me.
