"Main events" means plural and contradict's Main Event. If "Moto's" is what the sport evolve's to I feel the traditional name is more appropriate. It seems you are against 2nd tier riders in the show and prefer eliminations taking place before hand. I'm thinking the triple crown 3 "moto" format will lack drama the way an elimination format would, although you are correct about what level of talent belongs on TV. Right now it is mixed between 2 classes which further dilutes the talent and confuses the show. There is not enough separation of the 2 classes to make any sense.

All you guys talking about how long and drawn out it is. Its becsuse were essentially watching them qualify for gate pick. Only race that pays points is the 15-20 minute race at the end.

Outdoors doesnt show qualifying or practice. It shows the races

Change sx format to outdoors. Same three hour show with 2 hours of racing instead of maybe an hour as it currently is in sx

I'd rather riding with you than hit the race now that you put it that way.

Yeah, I don't know how anybody watches SX live. There is way too much downtime during a 3-hour broadcast. I record the show on my DVR, skip through the commercials and the Twitter pictures. It makes the time commitment more manageable and way more action-packed.

A 1-hour highlight/wrap-up show for casual fans seems like a great idea.

I was at A1 and I have never been so bored at a race. They cut out 450 semis but didn't condense the schedule. So there were multiple 15-30 minute gaps in racing throughout the night, and I can't even imagine how that plays out on a live broadcast presentation. More progressive commercials and Shaheen talking through his ass?

They need to condense the format so that there's more racing. Take a note from RedBull Straight Rhythm... there is so much racing packed throughout that event compared to the normal sx season night.

Even though the numbers have been declining it is still the number one watched sport in America. If you relate it to other sports going on last weekend and on that time slot then the numbers are good.

Like I said in my earlier post odds are its the highest rated program on fox sports 1 for the week.
Daytona 500 is not the number one watched sport in America. It's well behind the NFL. And of course it is nowhere near the Super Bowl.

Yeah, what are they doing with the extra time created by the loss of the semis? That's about 10-15 minutes of actual racing time, and another 10-15 minutes of build-up for those races that's not in the program.

Daytona 500 is the most watched race is what I said.

Yes I was wrong about the most watched sport. It is the biggest spectator sport in America. NFL is the most watched.

This, I have no problem taking away the semis, but shorten the program when doing this. Unless they find a way to improve the quality of filler, it sucks in current state. If they are just going to add filler bring back the semis.

I wonder if these numbers take into account other country's.
e.g. i watched it live on "sky sport" , in past years it has not been live on Sky so i would resort to shitty internet stream but it was Awesome on SKY/TV last weekend

I’m not very good at communicating on my phone and I apologize for that . I’m all for having the 80 rider fields to qualify for the mains. I just don’t think it belongs on the prime time race program. Only hardcore enthusiasts can handle the 3 hour program we have now and it sounds like even a lot of us are fast forwarding through the majority of the program

I also feel the talent pool is too weak to separate the 250 field

In Canada the supercross airs on Fox Sports Racing channel - or something like that. The channel seems absolutely dead - like the supercross is the only thing they have running or something. They run the same 3 commercials over and over and over and over again - and it's the exact same commercials that have run for the last 5 or 6 years. My Ride Rules, Hard Parts Bronx (or something like that) and Dumbest stuff on wheels....If you had to sit through the commercials and didn't have a DVR, there's a good chance you'd give up and change the channel or blow your brains out.

Agreed Supercross has a global audience and I would love to see the amount of people who watch the races worldwide.

Yea that’s what I have. It’s terrible. Luckily this year they added the Canadian Nationals to the channel. It’s literally sx and drag racing, The odd snowboard competition lol

I sort of expect all of the (silly) fill-in social media stuff that keeps he casual user interested and the hardcore enthusiast bored since this is about entertainment first for Feld. If supercross was owned by someone in industry whose business was affected by more new riders we might see different results.
I didn't count the commercial time over the three hours, but it seems like the format change primarily supports more ad time. I agree with other posters that I don't want it to grow the casual fan base that just makes tickets more expensive and doesn't really contribute to the motocross industry.

From a TV perspective I think a slight tape delay would be perfect, like you guys with dvrs are doing. Racing starts at 7 but broadcast starts at 730. Shows the heats, semis, lcqs, and just cut out 30 of track maintenance time.

Not necessarily 30+2. But a 2 or 3 moto fornat and no qualifying on the night show just motos that matter with the best guys like motocross.

I suspect one of the reasons for the new format without the semis is to allow more time for track work.

Couldn't really tell it as much for a1 but it will make a difference at future rounds with a messy move in or rain the day of the event.

Perhaps it will help eliminate sketchy tracks like we saw last year, including the one that got kr94.

I think starting a delayed broadcast would be good, with the target being for the mains to be live.

Hell, that is what most of us are doing anyway since cable and sat have got it where you can pause live tv.

I record it but also make sure it is in the channel so when I sit down about half way through the broadcast I can jump it back to the start and ffwd through commercials and fluff.

If something comes up and I am late I can always watch on dvr.

The time they take to rework the track over and over has to be taken up by some fluff segments. Make up to Mud, Veterans build a Toyota truck last year, Science of SX, social media, etc.

If anyone remember the CBS presentations on Sunday mornings back in 2010 ish, that was a one hour program.

Start thinking of what you JUST HAVE TO keep and what you can easily do away with.

They could REALLY tighten up the re-airs. I would hate to have a one hour show for the live portion, though.

It's perfect the way it is......just record it and then watch only the stuff you want to watch.....plus slow mo, rewind, that kind of cool shit. I'll take all the racing I can get, if I get tired of watching, I'll FF to another part.

You thought you were bored at the race, imagine being on the east coast and it's almost midnight and you're just staring at the TV screen waiting for the next race to come up.

That's always been the hardest part for me as far as getting some of my friends into watching racing. It starts at 10 and it's all qualifiers. Then it's like 11:30 and they're asking me "so when are these main events starting? They didn't even do the mains yet?" I tell you what though, when they had the day race at East Rutherford on big Fox, I had a lot more of my friends message me and say "hey you watching the race?"
