I have never heard of any kickstand related injury. I don't understand the mentality that a kickstand is perfectly fine for desert, but a death trap in mx. So 4th gear sand whoops are safer to run a kickstand than the groomed jumps that are probably tiny at your local track? Makes perfect sense. A kickstand is fine for any situation. The added weight isn't likely going to affect anyone here. Worry about the weight on your gut.

I've left the stock kickstand on my ktm for years now, and it's never unintentionally come down. Despite some nasty crashes.

The kickstand is awesome and I'll keep flying by the haters. I ain't gotta save any energy for putting the bike back on the stand Tongue
Footpegs, handlebars, and levers are required to ride or race a dirt bike, a kickstand is not. Also, being that a kickstand is well over a foot long, I could see how that could be dangerous in a first turn pile up. Most racing organizations require you to take them off. At Endurocross they announce over and over no kickstands allowed on the track. For trailriding they are a great convenience and just about no chance to impale anyone in a pile up.

If you want to enter a mx race with a GD kickstand knock yourself out. Can’t even care. But don’t rip those that have the sense to choose otherwise. Fuckers.

It's clear that you do care. On the other hand, people defending kickstands actually do not give a fuck if people choose to run one. I personally have never owned a bike with a kickstand. But I get annoyed at the hurd mentality with no real basis. My opinion can change. Show me a single example of a modern kickstand causing injury.

Can't wait for the "why can't we run turbo chargers in mx" crowd chimes in ... Whistling

Is it difficult to bolt and un-bolt? If it's not difficult surely it's worth the 5 mins to take it off at an mx track where it's not needed and put back on for the trails where I can see the advantage

Has anyone ever seen a kickstand come down while landing on a jump? Part of me thinks it might mess you up a little but the forward momentum might just kick it back. I would imagine it would take the force of landing to make it come down and at that point you are already wheels on the ground. If it came down off a lip that would be due to a faulty kickstand. Maybe iam just a dumbass.
Yup, was watching a kid at Breezewood on a YZ250X jumping the 100’ uphill jump. Every time he landed the kickstand was swinging down into the dirt. It was sketchy as hell. I mentioned to him that it was dragging and might catch one time and in true PA hillbilly fashion he said he didn’t give a shit.

Please elaborate on how being a foot long makes it dangerous. Tuck's in pretty well right along the number plate I think....

Yeah they're tucked in nice until they are not, like in a crash with multiple bikes. Not worth the chance of having a 16" piece of metal sticking up for someone else to land on. That is one reason why they are not allowed in most forms of closed course racing. That being said, I'd bet you ride a KTM, they have very good kick stands that tuck in and take a lot of force to unfold. Many other kickstands are not of that quality.

I have a 2014 KTM 300 XC, and I do remove the kickstand on the track even with the stock rubber band safety. It's one bolt to remove. Otherwise it can be a death peg.. It's a safety issue not only for you but others on the track too..

I need to follow someone around that track. I'm sissyl and afraid to go for the jumps on the pro track. The intermediate is a blast.

To asnwer the OP...I run the Pro Moto Billet stand on my KX450...it was $160...and when up, it tucks up under the side number plate, nearly vertical...I see no possible way this thing could ever come down on accident...

https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/1007/51365/Pro-Moto-Billet-Kicksta…

I love the kick stand...I think all bikes should come with them...I never think twice about it when I ride, and I don't even know its there. One of my favorite aftermarket "add ons" I've ever purchased for a bike.

I think a lot of the "fear" surrounding them in moto is from the yester-years...and aren't relavent with current technology.

Yup...I think if any skeptics were to actually try and put this stand up and down, it would eliminate their fear.

It's a great product.

I dont dare to put it up and down with my leg. Its so super spring loaded, it would probably break your leg if it hits you coming down. I use my hand and control it down otherwise its like the kick from a shot gun when it unloads.
