Who will be the next big name in Supercross?

CW2 will dominate for a period... AC, AF, AP all three will make the future of the 450 class good....

Roczen is 1 year older than Webb, 2 years older than AC.

Roczen is "the guy".

Edit: Tomac is 1 year older than Roczen. He has also lots of years left in him. None of the current 250 riders will be able to beat these 2 guys straight up.

Jo Shimoda, he trains with Marvin Musquin' old trainer Yannig Kervella and is signed with Geico. Saw that kid rip his 65cc back in 2014 at Junior World Championship and 4 years later he's already on a 250cc bike racing MEC Amateur Cup!
He has potential for sure, and his family is doing it right to make the most of that potential bringing him to the US from Japan. In a recent interview he stated he has been stateside for 3 years.

There are alot of fast kids coming up and Motocross both in Europe and the US is littered fast kids who looked to be the next big rider that just feel off the radar. It is sad, though every professional sport sees the same thing.

Marv is going to be pretty confident coming into supercross. I think he's going to be hard to beat.

Honestly I didn't really think about that, I guess it would be hard to see him rattle off 3-4 consecutive years of dominance under the Aldon program at his age. Matilde must be keeping his youthful appreance.

I think the dudes naming off amateurs have completely missed the point, unless you really believe there aren’t any current pros who are capable of winning multiple 450 championships over the next 6-8 years. If that’s the case, I’d suggest you look at history.

Looking forward, who will be the next big name in Supercross ala MC, RC, JS, RV, RD? Is Tomac, Marvin, or Roczen consistent enough to keep it on two wheels for multiple championships? Maybe these 3 will just share the spotlight for the next several years until the Dungey successor emerges?

Or, have we reached a time where there's just too much talent out there for someone to dominate?
We have reached a time where there will be no repeat domination IMO. The competition/bikes/training/etc are all too close for a rider to string together several championships in a row. Marvin may win enough in 2018 to claim the championship but I cannot see him going 3 or more in a row like riders have in the past.

Indeed, without a doubt, but I would think the GPs having fewer races per year would help the case of his AC222s age

I don't see any current 450 riders, that can pull off a bunch of titles. Maybe Cooper Webb, but I was not impressed with him this year.

Is it not clear Marvin right now is that dude. Hes won everything lately. Caught his speed half way thorought mx and almost caught Eli, then at the Final mx race was even beating Herlings till he crashed. Then he won all 3 races at MEC and took the million. Then won straight rhythm. Hes winning everything right now, I think this season is his to lose. Eli is too inconsistent and when he gets a lead his head gets wacky and he starts screwing things up.

Eli beats the guy in the two championships of 2017 and he's "inconsistent".

I'd have to say Webb if he can get his confidence back. He doesn't seem to be afraid to mix it up which I think is good for the sport. Plessinger has the potential as well if he can be consistent on the 450.

Austin Forkner is my guess. And he is from Missouri!! He is going to show everyone the fast line around the track.

Is it not clear that Tomac is next dominating rider?

I think Jason Anderson will be fun to watch this year. His enemies might hinder him in a championship fight though.

I'm not sure - but here's my thoughts.

CW2 - after his last contract year at Yamaha, he'll be on KTM and probably training with Aldon. I think he and Anderson would gel well, and he'll be able to chase Marv for another 2 years or so. I've always felt that Webb was lacking some training discipline, and I think by being teamed up with the ever-complaining Reed - his success was hindered.

Plessinger is a stud, but I haven't seen the consistency I'd expect from a champion. He tends to dump it when he's out front. But that whoop speed and his size tell me he will do well.

Forkner - I like him on Kawi, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was in contention for this years SX and MX championship.

AC - he's got Mike Allessi disease. Stunning amateur career and relatively blank pro career. It drives me nuts, because I'm a big AC fan, but he's right on the cusp of winning it all.

Justin Cooper, Cantrell and Sexton will be fun to watch.

'Cianciarulo' definitely seems like the biggest name coming up, although 'Plessinger' is pretty close.

All you guys who said 'Webb' are nuts. It should be painfully obvious by now that what it would take to be a big name is just not there. I mean, that's only like four letters. Not big, at all.

1. Hunter Laurence will take 2019 by storm in the USA
2. Austin Forkner will be a force in 2018
3. Cooper Webb will kill it (soon as he get's off the damn Yamaha)
