Who will be the next big name in Supercross?

Edited Date/Time 2/24/2021 8:38am
Looking forward, who will be the next big name in Supercross ala MC, RC, JS, RV, RD? Is Tomac, Marvin, or Roczen consistent enough to keep it on two wheels for multiple championships? Maybe these 3 will just share the spotlight for the next several years until the Dungey successor emerges?

Or, have we reached a time where there's just too much talent out there for someone to dominate?

Interesting question.

It is the first "gap" in a dominant force since before MC started his run. There was always this sorta overlap.

RD had his run and never really had someone that took it from him. I suppose Roczen shouldve been that guy. Maybe he still is. He's the closest thing to it that's for sure. When he's healthy he's quite dominant.

Jo Shimoda, he trains with Marvin Musquin' old trainer Yannig Kervella and is signed with Geico. Saw that kid rip his 65cc back in 2014 at Junior World Championship and 4 years later he's already on a 250cc bike racing MEC Amateur Cup!

Watch Yannig's videos on Instagram all the time. Jo makes it look so easy. Great style!

My gut agrees. Not outdoors, not on a 250. Highly evolved whoop skills.

I'm really curious to see how Cantrell does in Supercross. He gave Shane all he could handle at Straight Rhythm last weekend.

KR - Is/was the next dude. Unfortunately he remains a question mark until A1.

CW - His 250 dominance was no joke. He could be pulling an RC with a rough first year on big bikes. Time will tell.

ET - Some of his rides this year were unreal, but it seems like an equal amount left you wondering there the ET from last week went. Plus he lacks personality. If he can clean up the bad rides and purely dominate, the lack in personality won’t matter (much like RV and RD)

BB - If he didn’t hurt his thumb he’s the 2017 outdoor champ. No doubt in my mind on that. He seems to be getting much much better at SX. Can he start contending for wins indoors? We will see.

MM - Is absolutely on a path to possibly being that next guy. BUT. He consistently took 5ths behind KR, ET, BB, and Barcia on 250’s. The jury is still out for me on MM.

Is it not clear Marvin right now is that dude. Hes won everything lately. Caught his speed half way thorought mx and almost caught Eli, then at the Final mx race was even beating Herlings till he crashed. Then he won all 3 races at MEC and took the million. Then won straight rhythm. Hes winning everything right now, I think this season is his to lose. Eli is too inconsistent and when he gets a lead his head gets wacky and he starts screwing things up.

RV dominateD RD until he retired. Then RD dominated

You do realize Marvin is like 28?

In no particular order... I think Tomac, Musquin and Roczen will take most of the wins for at least a few more years. Guys like Anderson, Seeley, Baggett, Webb, maybe Osborne will take a few wins, but barring injury these guys will be fighting just to hit the podium.

Something tells me Plessinger could be really, really good on a 450.

Prado is the most technical rider I have ever seen. Hunter Lawrence is high on my list to watch as well, same goes to Justin Cooper.
