Where will Gajser stand at MEC ?

10/8/2017 10:27pm
I suppose it will depend partly on how much help he gets with set up from Honda USA , if any, and whether he uses it and if he feels comfortable with it.
I'm gonna go bold and say podium with a massive smile from Tim.
Do the other riders even take this event that serious or use it as a testing ground?

The hard pack and steeper jump faces definitely are more like SX, those in that video were not steep, the base was loose, and the corners were loam. Still I think Gasjer has a good shot if he starts up front, his speed will make it hard to pass, I just don't see him going through 5-6 top guys to a podium spot.

Considering the MEC doesn't have a real whoop section I think he will do very well.

He's gonna be fast, really fast. I wouldn't be surprised to see him run right near the front at some point, but it also wouldn't surprise me to see him have a big crash at some point. It's going to be interesting.

Imagine this place if he wins. I hope for the sake of Vital and the internet he doesn't. I hope for the sake of a new world order, and in the interest of the sport, he does.

With a million on the line yes they do. Even if you don't win all 3 but win the overall it's 100G so a nice payday.

I think he can beat them, but needs to start front of them. Gajser beat Dungey, Musquin & rest of the pack straight up at the first race in SMX Cup last year and put down the fastest lap the whole event, so he has the speed and with good start he definitely can win.

You all are killing me with bold predictions for him. It is not about the track or how well he did at the non-MEC cup last year, or whatever. His main problem preventing a podium is going to be all the racers who are used to MEC and SX that will be right beside him at the gate drop.

Besides hanging on Roczen, Musquin and Noren's coattails, this is the last Euro chance for bragging, so enjoy it while you can.

I don't think a proper whoop section would hold him back too much anyway

He will do well as long as he doesn't scorpion himself into the Vegas dirt. You would think he would already be over here riding at a real supercross track instead of the mini bike track in his back yard.

I think nobody can predict if he's fast enough to hang with the top guys but if he can, it's going to be an interesting event. Either way...

Is that one of the USA racer's mechanics warming up the bike before the testing session? That would explain the "not quite fast enough to podium on Saturday night" speed. :-)

SMX wasn't a real supercross track.

Besides not having whoops this track is a lot closer to an SX track then the SMX track was.

Luckily for him it doesn't have a whoop section.

Gajser looked way better in the whoops on that US SX track compared to his own backyard track.

Now this is not relevant since there are no whoops at MEC.

I think he will be good. Vegas is a hard pack track that gets slippery. Gajser is amazing(one of the best, if not the best in the world) in those kind of conditions.

Top 5 overall, and if there's a British announcer, Gajser will be 'Brilliant!' in each heat.

I think they use the metal crate on the start at the MEC again, so that should help Gajser as MXGP has been using those all season long. Some people also seem to forget that he is two time World Champion and he is very used to leading and winning races againts top guys like Herlings or Cairoli.

If he can get out front early he will have a great chance at a podium. If he's buried in pack I cant see him coming through. Doesn't have the experience yet.

Why do you assume that he is hopeless in whoops? He has great technique and I've seen a fair few videos of him through whoops where he looks very comfortable

Yeah it's funny how people think that not just a top pro but a world champion doesn't know how to ride a set of whoops...

He has world class speed, world class. Not sure why he wouldn't be considered a contender for a win just the same as any other of the top 5.

I'll put him on the box for the weekend overall.

Win? Depends which Eli shows up. Marvin ain't f'ing around anymore either.

3 races and first time ever racing an SX track.

He is of course a world class rider. Top 5 in the world but it's his first SX race, it's difficult to predict how good he is going to be.

You got me there.

OP asked where we thought he'd stand when it was over. He'll be on the box.

He was world champion last year, they don't give that shit out, so he has speed, heart, the bike is dialed, I'm sure he'll ride with all the desire and intent to win that comes from a champion, and he's got a point to make about how he'll do at this race.

I like his chances...the more I think about it the more I like him for the win.

Look at how comfortable he is
And people say he can't be top5 at MEC haha friggin haters Whistling
