I have no clue. The article I found yesterday was just saying the bike is going into production soon. A lot of the time deadlines always get pushed back but I can't give you a true answer.

That chassis is from a YZ85. It looks like they sawed the middle out of it and bolted in the battery and motor packet.

PS:
Electric bikes are coming, people. I'd be surprised if any of the Japanese brands wasn't working on them already.

I love the sound of the bikes and turn it up. It's about the only time I get to see pros ride without some idiotic song dubbed over the bike or bikes.

Since I have not yet received an answer to my query above about electric cars, I'm going to offer up my own theory. You all haven't bought electric cars because you want to hear and feel the sound of a car engine. Besides, do any of you want to roll up to pick up your date in an electric car? If you do, be sure and wear your hair in a man-bun. I'm sure she'll enjoy the restaurant you've picked out too...what with the Kale French fries and the veggie burgers.
Yeah right. I'd say the major reasons for people not yet taking up fully electric cars are low range, cost and lack of charging infrastructure. With time, all those barriers will disappear.

Look at modern cars - manufacturers are putting more and more material and design into isolating the occupants from noise. Ironically this in turn makes the car heavier, and emissions increase, thus making electric drive even more atttactive.

Feel free to lead, andbro. Go out and get you an electric, a romper and put your hair up. Good on ya.

My car isn't losing places to drive due to noise.

I just read that Volvo is discontinuing any further tech into ice, going all-electric starting in 2019.

Reading between the lines, no further development of internal combustion for new models. New development will all include an electric motor as hybrid or full electric. They will still build the same gas engines they have now.

The future is now

The reason people aren't buying more electric cars is: 1) Cost is too high 2) charging time is too long (which restricts drivers from being able to travel long distances with their $76,000 car) 3) lack of charging infrastructure (this is improving).

When the costs come down to reasonable levels (

I hear what you're saying - I really do. I'm just thinking that after a few years of driving electric cars and riding electric bikes, you all are going to sit back and say, "What were we thinking?"

If it doesn't end up that way, then more power to you. As I said, although it may not seem like it, my mind is not made up. I guess I'll have to see a national with electric bikes to finally make up my mind. I guess I'll have to see you all pulling up in your silent cars to pick up your dates - you with your man-bun and romper on.

OK, seriously, all this crud about "man buns" and "rompers" and such, is just me foolin' around. I'm not that set in my ways, nor am I that down on progress. I always think, "You're never too old to learn or change," but I have to admit this one is tough. I came of age in the 60s and 70s in southeastern California. When I was a teen, MX was an absolute, raging birth-right. It was full of hormones and stickers on the front number plate that said,

I'm a lover
I'm a fighter
I'm a motocross rider

So, here I am now, and some of you are insisting we not only need 4-strokes, but we need electric bikes. Meanwhile, my mind is going back to Edward's Air Force Base MX track in the 1970s - a crisp March morning - and the first time I smelled Klotz drifting across the pits and thought, "Damn, this is my true love. I want this in my life forever."

Edit add: No matter what you all say, I'm not down with "man-buns" or "rompers," but whatever, you do what you need to do.

Also in this edit, "Yes, much ty."

For the record, I love gas/diesel powered engines and I don't see electric vehicles "taking over" for a LONG time from now, if ever. The technology has to go a long ways before it gets to that point.

I'm particularly interested in electric MX bikes so I can ride in town due to less noise. Outside of that, I'll keep my thumper and smoker.

Electric cars don't have much of a need with the fairly low fuel cost and the amount of fuel efficient gas cars around. It would be interesting to see a 4x4 4 door 3/4 ton(or ton) electric truck with a long work day battery life.

BOOM! I'm looking forward to this thing.

This x2. Alta is based in the "startup" capital of the world. Whoever their capital investors are, they will want the MASSIVE payday from one of the big Japanese or European companies. These companies on the other hand, may as well save the R&D $$$ and let Alta keep improving the design.

I don't yet own an electric car or truck because my current 2004 truck runs just fine. Once I run it into the ground, then I will begin shopping for an electric car/truck. Would I 'pick up a date in a Tesla?' Are you serious? Those things accelerate so hard that the passenger seat comes with a sponge. The auto pilot should come in handy as well.

Definately an old pic. Look at the brake line routing. I think yamaha dropped it for "honda style" routing in 2005.
Guys, that's using YZ85 Running gear.

Hell yeah. Towing would be killer in an electric truck.

As for me, I'd drive an electric car if the performance was equal to or greater than a gas-powered one. That day will come soon enough, and when it does I won't shed a tear for the ICE.

How many of you guys have ever gone to K1 Speed or Pole Position and driven the electric go-karts? They aren't crazy fast, but they are certainly faster than I thought they would be.

Does leasing one count? If so, count me in. Fiat 500E with the "sport" option, of course. Wink

Admittedly, it was the financial benefits that caused me to go that route. That said, it's a hoot to drive, almost as easy to park as a motorcycle, and performed surprisingly well at the local autocross events I've entered. Given my experience with the Fiat and the issues of land closures due to noise I think electric dirtbikes are a brilliant idea.

In many parts of the country the Tesla Model 3 will be a game changer, and I'm not just saying that because I work for them.

If you're going to photoshop a protype E Yamaha MXer, you'd at least take existing chassis parts from this century I would have thought. And that Honda job, well ....

Wrong! They said after 2019
They won't have ICE only engines
Meaning they will have some electric attatched not full electric.

The problem the Japanese and Euro manufacturers have with introducing an electric bike over the likes of Alta is they risk cannibalizing their traditional moto sales, at least in the US. KTM missed the boat with their E-bike. Alta has already made a bold statement and proven their technology can compete with an internally combusted engine. The others have a big hill to climb if they're to introduce something as serious and competitive as the Alta. They've set the bar.

HGawd ..... i hope not. Converting to electrical would change the sport entirelly. Internal combustion engines kinda encompasses the sport imo and i couldnt look at it the same.

My opinion on the sport of MX bruh's

Think about all the new possibilities for places to ride with quiet bikes. Maybe we could get some good tracks that aren't hours away in the middle of nowhere. Now that I'm older and busier i just don't have time to allocate to hours of traveling on the weekends.

Bikes have plenty of power now. But, pc still puts 5k a week into their bikes motors to keep them at the top. Im hoping electric gives everyone equal power, with little in funds.

More people would buy electric cars if the prices were cheaper and there were more recharging stations, etc. It's definitely the future of cars. Just takes a long time to get the technology cheap enough and the infrastructure robust enough.

I also think e-bikes are the future. Cost being one of the biggest problems currently. But as price goes down they will gain more traction. The technology also needs to mature a bit more. E-bikes may not totally replace "race" machines but I think they will absolutely take over the weekend trail rider/weekend warrior. Quieter bikes means more places to trail ride, camp, etc. Imagine being able to take these on the trails in Yosemite, Yellow Stone, etc. Not saying that will happen but certainly a possibility with quieter bikes.

Also, maintenance is a big thing. Less maintenance, less money to spend, less time doing air filters, going to get gas, etc etc.

Again, I don't think they will take over race bikes but there will definitely be a market for this once the price comes down more and the technology matures just a bit more.

It may not be the future of the sport as far as MX/SX is concerned, but I believe it will be the future of dirt bikes.

The first few reports on that I saw, it was said 'electric only' by the noodles reporting it.

I thought, hell, they must have struck gold on some super E Tech.

Corrections followed pretty rapidly, with it being hybrid / electric assist on all, at the least. I wonder if it will apply to Trucks (real Trucks - not fancy Utes) that they make?

The, last night I saw a thing about France banning all ICE cars and trucks by 2040. They've already limited usage of certain year bikes in Paris, so it's not the first action of pretty full on restrictions of ICE powered vehicles.

As for people here saying that Yamaha E Bike frame is like a 90s model, I saw no 90s model Yamaha Dirt Bike with a frame remotely like that aluminium one.

Alta being bought out by the Big Boys - certainly could be on the cards. It would be a hell of a pay day for owners / investors. Though, imagine what could happen for them if an Uber Rich American (eg: Bill Gates and a few others) decided to 'upscale' them.

Yesterday there was the big announcement of Tesla contracting to supply a State in Australia with ( so far) the Worlds biggest Battery storage facility. Electricity usage and storage is on everyone's agenda.
